Best laptop I ever had! (after 5 attemps)

I bought this laptop in August because I went back to University in September. I wanted something portable and relatively small, but I also wanted the numerical keypad (for MS Excel). With that in mind, I decided to go for something bigger so I bought this 15.6'' laptop. The computer is super fast, reliable and has never crashed! It is reasonably light (considering its size). It is not as fancy looking as the big brands, but who cares! the computer works so well and is at least 30% cheaper than the other ones (with the same features). If you use MS Office, email and internet in general, this is a great option!

Bang For Buck

Bought this laptop once and the headphone jack broke, but I am ordering a second one because the specs are to good for the price. I want to tell you though that the quality of material may be bad, and you may be dependent on the warranty.

Matte screen, yellow tint

This laptop has matte screen which I think results in a sightly yellowish tint. Calibrating it doesn't help much either... If this is your main machine for things like graphic designing, etc, I wouldn't recommend it. However this laptop does run really quick because of the SSD.

This is a piece of turd, but it works great!!!

  • from St. Catharines, ON

Everything we needed, nothing we didn't.

Great laptop. Live the SSD and happy that it doesn't have a touch screen (we never use that feature and it reduces battery life). Recommended.

Pros and Cons

Pros for this laptop: Can run Photoshop Turns on quickly Fast wifi adapters Back-lit keyboard Typing on the keyboard feels "right" Pretty quite Can fit in most backpacks Battery life is great (If charged correctly) Cons include: Clicky track-pad overtime Screen makes weird patterns when lifting incorrectly Plastic finish is a finger print magnet The 940mx doesn't exist sadly The resolution drops in some areas of the screen. Verdict: Overall great tool for editing/working, (would not recommend gaming since the size of the SSD is limited to 256GB)

Everything about this laptop is amazing EXCEPT for one thing. Even though the laptop has a dedicated graphics card with 2GBs of memory, the dedicated memory shown in the display adapter properties is only 128 MBs. Device Manager shows two display adapters: Intel HD Graphics 620 and NVIDIA 940MX. However, there doesn't appear to be any way to override the Intel HD Graphics and Soldier of Fortune keeps crashing. Uninstalling the driver for Intel HD Graphics resulted in Windows 10 Home reinstalling it automatically. Calling Acer was of no help either. I was told that Intel HD Graphics would always be present and that the graphics card would kick in as necessary. Yet it does not appear to kick in when playing Soldier of Fortune even after having assigned the game to the graphics card in the NVIDIA control panel.

Uneven Base & Cust. Service

Unboxed it and placed it on my desk to find it sitting unevenly on the flat surface. Pretty obvious someone else returned this item. Returning ASAP. Available online, okay reserve, email "order cannot be completed", refresh, not available online, receive a call, just kidding we actually have one you just have to re-reserve again to place it in your name, refreshing for 5 minutes, call them back because site says location still is unavailable, just kidding we can't change it but if you still want it we can save it for you. Hmkk... While checking out & bagging, swings and slams my laptop on the counter. Can you not.

Great Performance!

You won't find better for this price! SSD Hard Drive is so fast and performant, laptop boosts and shuts down in 10 seconds or less. Keyboard feels great, especially if you need to spend of lot time typing on it. It has all the plug-ins you need (that most laptop nowadays lack): VGA, HDMI, USB, and Optical Drive. The look of the laptop is not great but who cares. Only downside: the touchpad feels rather average, but the feel is alright and it responds fairly well.

This Acer Aspire Computer is worth every penny I spent on it !!!

I just love this computer. Very quick. Turn your head for just a moment and it has turned its self off or on. I really love the SSD, the long battery life, the screen resolution. Key board is great to use. Love that I can add another stick for an extra 8 gigabit of ram. I think for the price you can not go wrong with this computer. I think it is a great buy and it is a joy to use. Love the i5 must not forget that . It is the nicest computer I have ever owned. I saved up for it and I am so glad and very happy with my purchase. Also my Thanks to the great team at BB in Burlington , ON.

Pleased: fast but ~4hour battery

I have been pleased with this laptop. The SSD make start up and installation times quick and the processor and RAM let it run applications well. Only complaint: the battery life is grossly exaggerated. There's a sticker on the laptop that says '12 hour battery'. While web browsing and editing word documents I get around 4 hours. If you're looking for a macbook replacement, the battery life is the only place where this doesn't match up.

  • from Victoria, BC

I followed some of the suggestions that other reviewers made which were super helpful to my purchase. One was to check the resolution of the machine before purchasing and BB was good enough to take it from the box (after I paid for it), and let me see for myself. The other was a comment that suggested the audio was of poor quality which I would concur with, but a fix for me was to simply hook up two speakers I had on my desk that were used for my prior pc. Other than that, the computer is fast; the keyboard a pleasure to use, and the HD screen is crystal clear. Other than the audio issue, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

Great laptop! It's worth every single penny.

This is the best laptop !!! Hands down it's worth every penny. If your going to use it for school day to day or light weight gaming and watch videos on YouTube or movies on Netflix this is really what you should look forward on to buying this laptop. If you aren't going to use it for those purposes, any other purpose which isn't like hard gaming is good for this particular laptop and again this isn't made to be a gaming laptop, this laptop is made for practicality.

Great Buy

Completely happy with this purchase. Plays 4k videos with ease. Easy to upgrade to 16gb ram with an additional 8gb ram stick also easy to add a 1tb harddrive.

super satisfied

This laptop is amazing! If you have never had a SSD before, you don't know what you are missing. It makes the laptop work incredible fast. Great well rounded laptop, I highly recommend!!

  • from Scarborough, ON

Ecellent bang per buck

This may not be the best looking laptop out there but it certainly makes up for that with its excellent performance. The only thing I wish was different is the screen quality. This is an excellent machine otherwise.

  • from Burlington, ON

Very Pleased!

Purchased this laptop in April 2017. Performs well. I was reluctant to get a non-glare screen because I like the vibrancy of a glossy screen when looking at or editing photos but I actually really like the matte screen and the night time adjustment (reducing blue light). It really does minimize eye fatigue. Very fast computer. The downside is the limited storage (256 GB); but with an external hard drive it doesn't really make a difference; its good practice to back up. Another family member plays computer games and finds it works well and good for that type of use. Speaker isn't that great but what laptop has a fantastic built in speaker? I would recommend this computer to others!

  • from Toronto

Probably the best laptop you could get for this price. The SSD makes the machine so fast (like 10 seconds to start up from power off), and overall just very good. Not much to say except that I would recommend this laptop for anyone considering one in this price range. This is coming from an indecisive tech connoisseur. I would recommend watching videos from the YouTube "Tech Deals" and that will tell you everything you need to know. Good luck!

4.5/5 Great laptop with solid specs

this machine can be classified as a strong all-round media player that can do office work during the day and shred some games at night. I am fairly impressed with the battery charge during the office hours, the laptop will easily last me a day and a half for office work on a single charge, alas when playing media (and games) the battery obviously gets heavily strained (about 3 hours on a full charge during StarCraft 2). Speaking of gaming, I only play RTS games so this machine gets the job done easily on most games at full detail and FHD resolution. Starcraft 2 ultra settings at 1080? no problem. AOE 3? are you kidding me? Warhammer? small hiccups during heavy battles but otherwise all the games I'm interested in play marvelously. My only real concern is the long term solidity, it sometimes feels like the screen is a bit too flexible which tells me that this baby needs special attention and a solid carriage (bag). 4.5/5

  • from New Waterford, NS

Amazing Laptop

This laptop is great for just about anyone. The boot from the SSD is faster than I thought it would be, the cpu and graphics card are good enough to run most of the games I play on pc. I was used to a 13" screen so the larger screen is amazing as well. I wasn't too keen on windows 10 but it's easy to use and fairly customizable. 100% reccomend this Laptop

Great Processor in this Price Range

My dad (who's good with computers) recommended me to buy it quick while it was on sale. He said we rarely find computers with 7th gen processors in this price range. I've been using it for 4 months now without any issues. I mostly use it for school work, watching videos... I play online multiplayer games with it no problem. It boots up in a few seconds. Also, the battery lasts very long. The only negative aspect I found was the screen is quite matte and dim, although the image quality itself is great. Just a little annoying when watching movies.

  • from Scarborough, ON

Speakers are garbage

I am not sure whether it is the speakers or something else within the laptop, but everytime i play audio, it will continue making a sound (similar to crickets) for around 30 seconds. This seems like bad craftsmanship to me.

Great Laptop!

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase considering this is my very first laptop. It hit all the tickmarks I was looking for: Windows 10, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD, intel core i5 7th Gen. I was looking for a laptop like this for a long time and when I saw it, I realized this is the one for me! I found it to be reasonably priced compared to other laptops with SSD. I find it to be lightning quick and dead silent due to SSD. Literally by the time I hit the power button and sit down it is ready to go. It also comes with a nice backlit keyboard.

I got this computer when my third mac hard drive failed so I wanted to switch back to windows... This computer has a poor screen and the frame isn't solid so I don't think it'll last, poor audio, doesn't pick up wifi well (I have to keep switching to my kindle!) the processor speed is better than a mac with a failed hard drive but not impressive. It advertises 12 hr battery it actually lasts 4 hrs.

  • from north vancouver

good hareware....

i got this laptop on boxing day. the screen is worst than my cheaper 4 year old laptop. this laptop may be thinner but is wider and longer than other 15.6inch ones.trackpad was sub par.

great laptop for the price

Bought this over the holidays. Insanely quick bootup time due to the ssd. fast pc, good for low-mid level gaming. Remove all the acer bloatware and youre set. Highly recommended.

  • from Winfield, BC

Very pleased with the laptop's performance and features offered. It has great battery life. You can easily upgrade the memory and even add another hard drive. It has all the ports you need and a DVD writer. You have to pay a lot more to get something thinner and lighter. Great overall value.

  • from Toronto, ON

This computer is amazing. It works fast and has some really nice, protective features built in already. It also has a nice key board and although for its size, it's not to heavy. Strongly recommend this computer, it handles games very well as well as watching shows and surfing.

  • from London, Ontario

Excellent machine, after the first return!

I did a huge amount of research on this version (with the SSD) and found that it is generally regarded as an astounding product for the price. --fast CPU 2.5 - 3.1 GHz new generation - released in 3rd quarter 2016 --256 Gb (256!) solid state drive - makes a BIG difference --RAM is the latest DDR4 design --the NVIDEA 940 MX is an entry-level gamer card --there's a plug-in normal drive bay if you need more memory CON CON CON: My first purchase was catastrophically defective in the first week PRO PRO PRO Best Buy has the best no-question return in the business. Immediately replaced with a smile

  • from Markham, ON

Great for the price

Very fast computer because of the SSD. Just getting started with it and so far all is good. Recommend it over all those others that just have the spinning HD

  • from Niagara Falls, ON

I really wanted to like this laptop

This laptop has so much going for it. I have had really good luck with Acer in the past so the name alone got me to pick up this unit. This laptop has the latest Intel low power I5 processor, a 256 gig SSD, long life battery that will really last a full day, backlit keyboard, an attractive aluminum case, 8 gigs of memory and get this--GTX 940m graphics card with 2 gigs of dedicated ram! But I am returning it. Why? I could not adjust the display properly. Screen gamma would not calibrate properly, blacks were more a greyish charcoal. Put next to my wife's Dell the display looked just awful. There was nothing I could do. That plus the fact the battery is wired in and not removable really did it for me. But don't let that put you off if you need an all day laptop with light gaming chops. Have a look at it in the store I would say. Maybe I just had a bad unit.

Great laptop, So Happy

I was looking for a laptop for a while and when I saw this laptop I thought to myself and said, this is the one! This laptop is AWESOME! This laptop comes with lot of goodies! Be sure, to check out this laptop if you are looking for budget priced laptop.

Inconsistent Pixelation

The monitor on the Acer laptop is poorly made. It's "1080p" all around, except when you get to the bottom right corner of my Acer E15. There are these white lines going across. Although very discreet, they are still noticeable and should not be left unnoticed. If you're going to purchase this laptop, open the box and check if the display has no inconsistencies. If so, keep taking out new laptops until a proper, non-defective model is found. I've had this issue with an Acer monitor as well. I opened 4 boxes to finally find a good display. I mean, I'm returning mine soon...

  • from Toronto, ON

This laptop is great for the price!

This laptop has a pretty decent cpu which is the latest kaby lake 7th generation, also this laptop 256gb ssd is blistering fast, but it may not be ideal for persons that store a lot of files, especially video games. Talking about video games, this graphic card, this card is a mid range graphic card, most games from 2014 and below can easily play at 1080p resolution max settings, but later games from 2015 and 16 will have more difficulties, the recommended settings for later games is at 1366x768 at low to medium settings depending on frame rate. You wont notice much difference between 1366x768 vs a 1080p resolution since the screen is only 15.6 inch. overall this laptop is fast efficient and user friendly, the only problem is that touch pad is a bit laggy at times and if you do a lot of editing when it comes to pictures, you may have some problem since this screen is a TN screen, but overall the screen quiality is gorgeous, also this laptop is not fingerprint resistance, so you will have to be cleaning near the touch pad area very often. overall 4/5

Best Laptop for the Price

Got it on sale for a hundred off. By far the best deal in the Canadian market for laptops in this price range. Pro's: - Incredible battery life, probably best out there (~10+ hrs with basic browsing) - Spec's are top notch for this range: newest gen CORE i5, 8GB DDR4, 256 GB SSD, GEFORCE 940MX - Room for a second SATA drive - 2 RAM slots up to 32 GB DDR4 - Light up keyboard - Nice finish and build (imo) - Functions very well overall Con's: - Mouse pad isn't that great, gives a weird response to motion. If you're like me though, using a USB mouse negates this

Great Performance PC

This laptop is great for almost everything from everyday tasks to graphics demanding CAD programs. The SSD is great, PC boots up in a manner of seconds. The graphics is good for AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc. Memory is 8 GB DDR4 2133 MHz. Overall quality of the laptop is good.

Great Laptop for Everyday Tasks and Gaming on Lower Settings

First off, value wise, this laptop is amazing. If you are looking at this price point you won't find a better laptop based simply on specs. Sure, if you want something super pretty with a glossy screen this isn't for you but this laptop is a bargain priced workhorse. Bestbuy has a few errors in the description though lol. Here are a few and I'm sure I'm missing more: 1) The processor has a default clock speed of 2.5 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.1 GHz. The specs they list online are for the older, slower, 6200u (skylake i5) while this machine runs the newer slightly faster 7200u (kaby lake i5) 2) The laptop uses DDR4 memory, not DDR3 3) The 940MX is equipped with it's own 2 GB of GDDR5 ram and not DDR3 memory. All together those features would cost you a lot more from any other manufacturer but Acer tied this neat little package up together for a great savings somehow. Below are my pro's and con's highlighting this. Pro's -Boots fast (m.2 based SSD) -Never lags in "normal" tasks (i5 +SSD) -High quality wifi (100 mbps easy with the proper ac band wifi equipment at home) -Price point -Runs modern games like KSP, CS:Go, BF4, and GTA 5 fine on medium to low settings. (Decent dedicated graphics card, at least 2x faster than a stock i5 with 620 integrated graphics) -Battery life (3 hours gaming or 6 hours plus in normal use) -1080 p matte finish screen for low glare -Backlit keyboard -Easy access to empty HDD bay should you want to add a conventional HDD for additional data storage. Con's -100% plastic and slightly bland appearance. -Colour and contrast from the screen is okay but not great. This is not an IPS panel. -This thing gets hot when gaming for long spans of time, not enough to damage anything but keep the vents clear or you could run into issues -Full of bloatware like every other mainstream computer now. -USB ports on the left hand side are a little close together making it difficult to use both at the same time. -The power port is on the right hand side which can get in the way of your mouse if you use one.
