Acer Predator XB271HU = gaming goodness

By far the nicest monitor I've ever owned. Mine was in perfect condition, no dead pixels or other light bleed issues, not sure why some have had issues and others haven't It's possible that some of this can be attributed to it's price, it's not a cheap monitor by any means and I feel like if mine had any flaws I'd be taking it back or exchanging it... in other words its easy to be nit-picky when you're spending this kind of cash on a monitor. Over all 1440p/144hz IPS is a big upgrade from 1080p/60hz TN and makes a big difference in clarity, 4k is overkill in this size, in my opinion 1440p is the sweet spot. I use this as a mix of a gaming monitor and a general purpose/daily use monitor. I actually have it attached to 2 machines, my gaming rig, and my older daily use PC. This monitor allows display port and HDMI switching via the monitor settings panel on the front. Pretty convenient. I have read some reviews that give low points for the interface... after using it a few times you get the hang of it, no issues navigating around it, I've seen worse. I should also mention I own a Acer Predator gaming rig, so this monitor matches that system, which is pretty cool, they look great together! I'm running a GTX 1070ti and have the monitor set to 165hz... games like Doom and Overwatch are butter smooth on this monitor maxed out with GSynch enabled... no ripping or ghosting, just sharp, colourful and rich 1440p gaming goodness. I'd highly suggest this monitor to those who want to splurge, I thought long and hard after setting it up whether it was worth keeping, and in the end I decided it was worth it. Is it expensive? Yep, prob too expensive really... but it's such a nice gaming monitor that it was almost impossible to let go once I plugged this sucker in. Do it, you know you want to!

Horrible Quality Control

I want to love this monitor but it's near impossible to with all of the quality control issues. First one had about 10 stuck pixels and a strong yellow hue going in the center of the screen and strong, almost arctic blue colour, on the sides that calibration couldn't resolve. Exchanged that and the next one also had stuck pixels, albeit less this time, but again had the same strong yellow hue in the middle of the screen with blue sides. Third one was perfect, EXCEPT, when turning on 144hz mode, the image sharpness turns very fuzzy and gamma goes off. The loss of sharpness makes games look worse than my old TN panel and seems to impact contrast as well. Strangely, setting it at 60hz has no sharpness or gamma issues. Best Buy is out of stock everywhere (maybe their no longer stocking this defective item) so I may just have to refund but I purchased with store credit and Best Buy doesn't carry any other IPS GSYNC 1440p 165hz monitors. Don't want to take my chance with the AOC as it's online only and shipped by a subsidiary retailer. Wish Acer could get their act together, even better, I wish Best Buy carried the Viewsonic/AOC/Asus version in store.

RMA= cancer

Sent my monitor in for a lcd problem and it i picked it up as the repair center is only 25 mins away(burnaby) . it came back with a broken display port so i was stuck with hdmi which only displays 60hz. Careful as their techs at the repairshops aren't the smartest. gg

Mine came with zero dead pixels and no light bleed at all. Just perfect but even if there was a problem the BestBuy return policy of no questions asked made me comfortable from the start. In a totally dark room the IPS panel used in this monitor does have a glow when displaying totally black image. In games or movies that is not seen. You will not have a glow with a TN panel but the IPS panel offers rich bright colors and excellent response time. Everything is just better next to my older TN monitor. The 1440p resolution on a 27inch gives you so many pixels for a perfect crisp image. To use the higher refresh rate this beast can handle be warned you also need a very good video-card, 1080 for example in most games. If you play LoL wich is less demanding you can do it with a less powerful one but for most others to get high FPS you just need the power in your computer as well. Given that a monitor is a very long therm investment, get this one now and upgrade the GPU (video card) latter. You will change the monitor in 10 years + the GPU every 2-3. So save and buy the best and right now this is it. If you spend time like me in front of the computer every day, getting this for your eyes makes sense. The price has come down allot from its release so tha its a + as well. The gsync is just a must if you play video games especially shooters. Even at low FPS it smooths the image. The difference is so glaring you would think before you were seeing a fast slide show compared to the smooth experience. I play battlegrounds with my old gtx960 videocard and get 30-50 fps but with Gsync it is fluid even at those low FPS. You probably know this but you need an Nvidia video card to use Gsync so dont get a Radeon with this monitor. The only draw back is the menu which is the opposite of intuitive and the stupid marketing name plastered on the front. On the other hand If you are a 5year old I guess the name will excite you.

fantastic monitors

These monitors are absolutely great, from the packaging to the actual screens. The size and resolution are awesome, and the monitors just make photoshop and my games so far look awesome. The stands are nice and solid too, and look fantastic.

Excellent 1440p Monitor

I don't have the ASUS monitor beside mine to directly compare them but this Monitor was well worth the upgrade from my 1080p/60hz monitor. There is some backlight bleed but nothing to be concerned about really. Backlight bleed is an issue with all IPS panels. Mine was barely noticeable but you can tell if you're on a completely black screen with the room lights off. Some do find the backlight bleed a problem though so be careful of that. The beauty of buying this from bestbuy is that if you get one that is intolerable to you just return it and order another. I bought mine when it was [price] off. In my opinion this is still too expensive for this monitor and prices will drop sharply over the next year or two. For those who haven't seen or used G-Sync it is a REALLY great feature. In my experience it completely eliminates tearing and input lag. But again I'm coming from a 1080p/60hz monitor so the difference will be more pronounced for me than you if you're coming from a 144hz monitor. Is 165hz overclock on this monitor a selling point? In my opinion no, there is ZERO noticeable difference between 144hz and 165hz. The reasons to buy this monitor: 1. fantastic colors from the IPS panel. 2. Excellent refresh rate and great response time for an IPS panel. 3. The stand is great, some reviews said it was wobbly, but I haven't seen this. 4. Comes with Display Port and HDMI so you can use it for PC gaming and your gaming console over HDMI. 5. Comes equipped with ULMB which is great but cannot be used at the same time as G-Sync. If you're pushing max frame rate or over definitely go with ULMB over G-Sync anyway, but if you're under max frame rate I would stick with G-Sync. Keeping in mind that you need a G-Sync compatible video card for that. Reasons not to buy: 1. PRICE!!! This thing is not cheap. There are really only two options that I found for a 144hz (or better) IPS panel. This and the Asus PG279Q are the only two monitors I've found that have and IPS panel and acceptable refresh rate. The PG279Q is [price]+tax!!! I purchased the acer for [price]. Still it's really expensive. If you're not going to use G-sync I would go with the other IPS displays with 144hz refresh.

Fantastic product

I've heard the horror stories about QC, so imagine my delight when I found that there were no dead pixels and minimal back light bleed! Great product all around.
