Recommend not to buy

PROS- Light weight laptop, easy to use and does the job. CONS-First week in, audio was cracking. Laptop could not detect the audio device anymore. Installed audio drive that was recommended and worked for a couple weeks, but then happened again. Called Acer support and they told me to reinstall same audio file. Audio worked again but a day later, same thing happened. -Very loud when doing normal browsing. Only happened when plugged in charger.

Too bad about the speakers.

I really love this laptop. It is light, super fast and looks great. I've had fun experimenting with the pen as well. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have said (as well as many people on the Acer forum), the speaker issue is really true. Within a couple of days of having the laptop, the speakers started making a crackling noise after being used for an extended period of time. Setting up a new computer takes a considerable amount of time so I did not want to bring it back in and exchange it for a new one. I also do not want to take the time to send it back to Acer for this problem. Restarting the computer always solves the problem for a a couple of days. The computer starts up very quickly so this is really just more of an annoyance than anything. If it wasn't for this ongoing speaker issue, I would have given this laptop 5 stars. Acer needs to fix this.

Very Good 2-in1

I did a lot of browsing for 2 in 1 laptops and i stumbled upon the spin 5. The price is solid and the specs you get with the laptop are fairly good as well. It is very fast on boot up and has no problem running multiple tabs and windows on chrome or edge. Easy to use, keyboard is crisp and it is backlit which is a nice feature. Keyboard is solid and well spaced for bigger hands and easy to type on. The switch between tablet, tent and view mode are amazing and the hinges hold up very well. Laptop is quiet, sleek, and is very quick. Only issue is the speakers aren't the greatest and become distorted after an extended amount of use but a simple restart of the system fixes this and the I usually use bluetooth headphones regardless so it makes up for it. The wifi connectivity is amazing. I live in a large, bulky apartment with thick cement walls and ceilings and this little guy can receive the wifi and load up pages just fine. Definitely a solid purchase and definitely a good job by acer! The pen is also an added bonus.

Too good to be true

Just a warning to those who are deciding on buying this, if you need this only for a couple months, then buy this. If you want a laptop that lasts, buy something else cause this is the worst, most backwards, cheapest quality laptop there is. At first this is a great little laptop, easy to use/versatile, light to carry, pretty design. Couple months later though it becomes evident why it's cheaper when compared to others. My hard drive failed for no apparent reason, which caused me to loose a bunch of my documents (that didn't worry me too much thought, as these things may happen, and acer replaced it under warranty). Next was the keyboard as the keys broke off for no reason and under normal use. Then my screen cracked beside one of the hinges as I was rotating it into a tablet mode, the LCD is still functional but the touch screen only works about half way. Acer refused to replace any of those and were rude in their conversations with me, with a manager telling me straight up that they do not care. I am still using this laptop today as I have no money to spend on another one just yet, with the list of problems is building up every week, for one the power cord needs tape to stay in. The battery dies in under ~4 hours now with "battery saver mode" on. If I could give 0 stars, I would

Great value and probably the best priced/featured 2-in-1

First time purchasing a Acer PC. it's a surprisingly well built piece of hardware. The all aluminum build is a nice touch. Purchased mine 1 week ago. If you're looking for a 2-in-1, this might have it all for you. Great battery life, quiet fan (not sure why one reviewer said fan was loud), speakers are good and loud enough for me, a finger print reader and so many ports and the SD card slot. Do note, the body of the SD card does stick out about 50-60% once inserted. Not a deal breaker for me. The screen is nice and bright and good viewing angles. The 4 different positions is extremely handy. Esp tent mode if you're lacking table space. I find the weight is alright. I had purchased the HP ryzen 15.3 2-in-1. That was heavy and was slow booting up too. The Acer Spin 5 is light in comparison. The boot up from pressing the side Pwr button to your Windows 10 sign-in screen is about 5 seconds. That's fast, as I'm used to the 1-2min boot up. The SSD makes all things speedier. Haven't tried the pen yet, waiting for a screen protector before I start scribbling on the screen. If you've been contemplating a Dell, HP or ASUS 2-in-1. Get the Spin 5. Try it and be surprised. I am. And I'm keeping mine.

Very Disappointing, Had to Return

I had this laptop for about ten days. The pros - it worked super fast and smooth. The screen was large. The pen was amazing worked well, was able to create some cool drawings using Microsoft Apps. The Cons - - The laptop overheated every time I used tablet mode, which was often. The way it's designed, the screen covers the vent so that the heat just goes back to the laptop screen. This caused huge problems causign the speakers to crackle. Already tinny at the best of times, the speakers were just terrible after the laptop overheated. - The battery lasted about 8 hours on normal usage, not 13. That's a huge difference. - It was super heavy and bulky. Ended up trading it in for an Asus Zenbook which is so far good, but doesn't have the pen.

Buy it

I've done 8 hrs of research on what laptop to buy. Finally, I bought this one. It's great. Just buy it. May sound load at first, but that's just the laptop getting to know you. Do your self a favor, don't buy stupid Apple products, buy this.

I like it.

This laptop is a good bargain when compared to other laptops with the same specs. It has a great screen but it is glossy so a slight bit less sharp than a matte screen. Once you unplug it, it runs quite with no fan noise. The only part I don't like is the multilingual keyboard and I may return it just for this reason as I am having difficulty getting used to it. I wish they would sell English alone keyboard laptops in Ontario.

Loudest Laptop Ever

I've had this laptop for months now, I use it every day for at least a few hours. It is the LOUDEST laptop I have ever encountered. Pros: It does what I need it to, which is watch movies, type documents, listen to Spotify, very occasionally use Photoshop. Lightweight and portable. Cons: So loud. The fan starts screaming from the minute I turn it on, sometimes well after I turn it off. This is annoying when I watch videos, but even more so when I'm just doing work. It's constant and will not stop. The keyboard will get scratched if flipped into the display position unless you put something protective like a cloth under it. I rarely use the flipping function. The touchpad's right click function is can be finicky and you end up clicking multiple times until you hit the right area for the right cick. The charger does not stay in the port. It will fall out easily, which is annoying if I move my arm and it just comes out. It will not warn you when the battery is about to die until a milisecond before it dies. This is possibly the most annoying part. Unless you keep an eye at the battery icon at all times, it will not tell you when to plug in. Power button is directly next to the volume button. Sometimes I go to turn the volume up and end up turning the laptop off. In conclusion, the 360 degree feature is nice for watching videos, it it lightweight and portable, but it is the incredibly loud, annoying and physically quite poorly designed. I do not recommend this to anyone unless they want it to randomly turn off, or they like to hear constant buzzing from the fans all day. Do yourself a favour and do NOT buy this device.

Super Laptop at the Price

I have been looking for a laptop for 6 months, reviewing the size, the specs and in particular the touch screen with the best specifications. The fact that this laptop has the (Intel Core i5-8250U / 256GB SSD/ 8GB RAM / Windows 10) made it easy to decide. The first review did not make this laptop look impressive and I am inflenced by reviews. I awaited better reviews and it is only after I purchased this laptop that more better reviews began coming on this site. I am very happy with this laptop and the support from ACER.

Excellent Buy

I bought acer spin 5 after I had returned an HP spectre x360 I bought from bestbuy on the same day( The HP spectre heated up in less than an hour and also noisy too). I fell in love with this convertible when I opened it . Considering it has most of the features of a premium laptop/convertibles, it was such a bargain buy. The beautiful outer body has a feel of stainless steel/aluminium but I think its plastic. The screen displays vividly colorful and bright with a sensitive touch screen. What I loved about this is that the screen is stylus active and the package ships with an active stylus pen(and extra ink) included. The stylus works so perfectly with windows ink. The weight does not feel too heavy on your lap or to carry about. Though it's thin, it feels robust and eliminates the fragility associated ultra thin notebooks. The manual says battery lasts for 13 hours but I'm yet to try that. The longest I had left it on was for about four hours and the battery power consumed was less than 50%, The only thing that distinguishes this from the high premium convertible is the gaming graphics. The spin 5 uses an intel UHD 620 and so decent for gaming, Overall I'm really impressed with acer spin 5.I have returned 2 laptops to bestbuy the past but for sure I'm keeping this acer. It's feels just like a owning a premium laptop/tablet.

Acer Spin 5 13.3" 2-in-1 Laptop Review

Well I am happy to report that this laptop is Amazing for the price. I did a lot of digging for a 2 in 1 to replace my aging Sony ultra book. I settled on this acer after playing with a couple of the Acer Swift 3 notebooks. The Spin 5 has the same internals as the new Swift 3 13" notebook. So lets get into what really matters, How does it perform? After having Geek Squad perform a Clean install of windows. This unit loads from a cold boot in around 15 seconds. The processor and ram hold up very well under stress, I was also shocked by the thermals of this unit. It does not get very hot in you lap, even when the unit ramps up to max processor speed (3.6ghz). Battery life is surprisingly good for a Pc. In high Performance mode the laptop lasted about 7 hours. In Better Battery mode I was able to push it to 11.5 hours, Which puts this laptop in the same range as a MacBook air. The port assortment on this unit is good with 2 USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C 3.1 port and for some strange reason a USB 2.0 port. A full size HDMI and Full size SD card reader. The Screen is nice and bright, and I did not have any glare issues like I did with my Sony. The multi touch screen responds very well. Also something that no one talks about online with this unit its the active Stylus it ships with. This is really great addition given that even the Microsoft surface computers don't ship with one now. I would say that the stylus is on par with the one that came with the Surface 3 units and older. However its the smallest active Stylus I have seen. Almost as small as the one that comes with a high end Wacom tablet. The Keyboard is nothing to brag about, its the same as all short throw chicklet keyboards. However it does have backlighting....So that's a plus. The Trackpad is pretty good for what's shipping on most pc laptops today. Its no where near as good as the MacBook trackpad but most trackpads are not. The trackpad also has a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello. I thought this would be gimmicky, but it works really well. Its actually one of my favorite features. Fit and finish, is really nice on this unit. In the photos I saw online this unit looks silver. However its closer to a Gun metal black in color. Which look really nice, with the way the Aluminum was polished. The unit is all metal, so no plastic frame like the previous generations on this unit. I read in a previous review that someone had cut themselves on the frame. I can say that is not the case with my model. There are 2 points near the USB ports where the frame comes together that there is a seam and maybe that was not milled properly for the other customers unit. So I have gushed about this unit, but I do have some small complaints. Opening this unit is a bit tricky. When the unit is closed the 2 halves come together so seamlessly, there is nothing to grip to open the top. I have found myself grabbing the sides of the screen to open it. My second issue is the power adaptor design. The Male end of the adapter is really small and I am afraid with the right angle design of the plug it could break really easy. However this laptop can charge through the USB-C port. So I may find myself buying a 45W USB-C charger. The last issue and this is really minor, is the weight. this Unit is just over 3 pounds. Which is nothing when your carrying it around or its in your lap. But when trying to hold and use it like a tablet, its a little heavy. So my Final thoughts are this, The Spin 5 is a well built and long lasting power house for the price. The inclusion of the Active Stylus was a welcome surprise as well. If you are looking for a great 2 in 1 or even comparing Tablets like the Surface line-up. Give this unit some thought.

Powerful, but poor case design

I really liked the look of this laptop, and the spec is great for the money you spend on it, it preform really really well. BUT 1. be aware that this laptop has sharp USB ports (both sides) so be careful when handling, I have scratch myself more than once (very painfully) also 2. the laptop is super slippery, can be very unconformable if not been used on a desk. 3. The power socket is very flimsy and loss, make sure to not put any pressure on it what so ever while you have it connected. I have return it for those reason.
