I purchased and connected to new TV and only got few channels. Not worth the money
I was very optimistic to buy this, but had issues with the assembly the base to the arm holding the the circular antenna would not fit properly. Apart from that, the chicken wire inserted made reception even worse. I live uptown Toronto, the CN tower is only 4.7 miles and I'm facing on the 3rd floor. Thus my reception should have not been an issue. But guess what? It was, after the channel scan by the TV on antenna setting, it acquired 8 channels only, and 7 with the chicken wire. Not even close to the expected, in fact with just a fm radio wire connected to my TV I got 8 channels, just as good in quality, the fm wire was a left over from an old stereo, so it was essentially free. ALso all those people who claim they can get 20+ channels and who live on the GTA, are not exactly honest about it. First there aren't that many who broadcast. Even when taking into the Buffalo channels it only adds up to 15! I returned the package, not worth the price.A customer
live in the east side of Vancouver near Burnaby...TV is at the second floor of my house...I placed the antenna facing east...I got 7 local channels in HD with no interference.
I had no luck with it indoors in woodstock.
I live at the riverside in Windsor. I get most nearby US channels but I do not get any Canadian channels including no CBC Windsor. No difference from my previous 5 years old (Cheap) Philips antenna. Will return it.
This antenna is very directional where others are multidirectional and do not need to be aimed at transmitters. One review states in Richmond, he received nine channels. I too live in richmond and also got nine channels; however, with a multidirectional antenna, I picked up thirteen. It is even worse in areas with weak signal as it needs to be aimed dead on.
I live in a downtown condo, 19th floor, facing north. No direct line of sight with the CN Tower. I get 14 channels including some Buffalo stations (WUTV, WNLO) and Bounce TV (??).
I live in Toronto in the Eglington Don Valley area and my apt faces south. I put it in the window and did an easy scan and got about 20 channels! Heres what I got. WIVB, CBC, WKBW, Laff, Escape, CFTO, Star Ray, WNED, Think, TVO, WNLO, Bounce, CBCfrench, WUTV, TCN, Grit, Global, 2 OMNI stations, WNYO, ASN, Comet, GetTV, and CITY.
Some of the US stations only came in at night but WIVB and WKBW were strong.
I also got a WNED classical radio station too.
Definitely worth the money.
Cut the cable and happy to do so.......have Netflix and good to go!
Get about 15 channels likely only half that I would watch. Quality is good on most channels. Was just looking for something for the spare tv and suits the purpose just fine.
It was easy to install. Bought it a few days back and fitted it as an internal antenna yesterday. I live in Richmond BC and immediately got 9 HD stations. The reception is excellent with great picture quality. Very happy with the purchase.
Bought this today. Assembly instructions are not as good as they could be, but it is not difficult. On the 10th floor of a high-rise in Hamilton. Have direct sight-line to the antenna mast on CN Tower. Ran the channel scan on the TV. Antenna found 14 channels (2-3 are French language) and PBS and CBS in Buffalo. Find picture superior to cable, though audio gain is not so high as cable so - turn the volume to 18 rather than 11. After only one day, am delighted with this device's performance.
I can receive between 7 and 11 channels (Global, OMNI, CITY, CBC, TVO, etc). The signal is very good on some channels, good on others, and a couple channels are hit and miss. The few US channels I receive a signal for are not always clear.
I have put the antenna beside the TV and found an angle that seems to be okay for channel reception.
Overall not bad for the price of the antenna. I am happy with the purchase.
I will never again pay for cable TV.
I like the antenna, but I can't seem to get it in the right spot. I have about 9 channels total. I can see the CN tower from my kitchen, and I feel like the antenna is in the perfect location - but I still get limited access. I feel like if I could mount it outside I would have better success. However for the channels I do get, it works like a dream.
I live in Sandstone so Nose Hill is between me and the broadcast towers.
Unable to pick up any channels on the main floor and only able to pick up one on the top floor CFCN. Probably not the antenna's fault but rather my location.
I live on the 8th floor of a mid-town Toronto condo with a clear view to the CN Tower. When I assembled and attached the antenna to my TV I was a little dubious about what I would pick up in the initial channel scan. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I got more than 20 hits in the scan result set, including: TVO, Global, CITY, CTV, OMNI, CBLT, CBC, ABC, NBC, CBS and my favorite PBS station. I set the antenna up indoors on the floor near a balcony window and pointed it at the CN Tower 8 km away. It's next to a couple of plants so visitors don't even realize it is there. I get sports, news, great shows. Cost per month: zero. Fantastic. If you have clear line of site to a good broadcast source like the CN Tower I would definitely suggest considering this product.
We live in a middle unit town house. Bought this antennia as i was tired of paying 200 for cable. It gives us 5 channels out the front window if we had an attic we may have gotten more. But im happy with it! It makes me happy not to have to pay outlandish cable bills.
I'm in a suburb of Toronto, in an old house with silver foil for insulation, so I can't get any reception through the walls.
There is a 5 story apartment 500 feet from my house, between me & the signal source (What we used to call the CN Tower)
I put the antenna in my living room window pointing towards the source & got 3 channels. I tried turning it this way & that & could get 1 other channel, but from that position, I'd lost the 3. (by the way.. of the 3, one was a French language stn, & one was channel 19.. which I've no interest in.)
I decided to return the antenna, then found it can't be disassembled. It was however accepted at the return counter without problem.
For fun & connected a wire coat hanger to the tv to use as an antenna... I got the same channels.
I guess if I want more I'll need to install an outside antenna.
Initial setup was a breeze, only set up behind the TV got 10 Direct Air HD channels. Following day setup to raise antenna both inside and outside the house to increase channels to 19.
Now I can dump my basic cable provider and the monthly fee. I also have an additional streaming system to get movies and TV shows that I paid for once.
I have been using another model that is quite common and doesn't have this design, seeing this new feature I thought I'd try it. I seem to get one extra channel (CTVTWO) 43 with this one so I'm going to keep it. Sometimes I get channel (CHCH) 11 with it but not very stable.
It's ok but happy to get it on sale.
I get channels 4, 5, 11, 13, 14, 24, 34, 60 and 65
Looks cooler than rabbit ears but doesn't perform any better in my location (Winnipeg). Will be returning for something else.
I got 22 channels (from Toronto and Buffalo towers) when placed this antenna on a 3 feet high table top near the window. Adjust its height and position can help with signal strength. I just needed to watch some basic channels occasionally so this works more than expected.
I live close to the border in Fort Erie and I was amazed I received 23 channels! Picture quality blew me away as I don't remember my reception being as clear with cable. No bad weather yet so I'm not sure how it will affect reception but so far I am so very happy with this purchase:)
This unit works well...receives 2 of the 3 channels in this area. ...just as I thought it would.
worst antenna to have
First , I'll say that I have a line of trees in my yard, in the direction, I have to point the antenna. This one sits on a table, away from the window and still gets 5 channels, depending on the way I turn it. On the picnic table in my yard, I can get up to 10 channels, depending on the weather and the direction I turn it.
It's a sturdy antenna, easy to set up and I like it.
Plugged it in and searched for signals. I get 31 channels. Perfect if you are not a TV Junkie
My home is near the city limit, I can get 6 HD channels, better than the philips one. When I use the philips one, I can only get 2 channel.
Hooked up out of the box, assembly takes a little guessing but worked out, no amplification in a semi basement apt and 9 channels no amplification. Added a 14db amp from another dead antenna and got 13 channels..., Everything GTA except for CTV1... and unless you are in the "Fox Viewing Position" I've never received that one... Worth every penny... each channel at level 6 and higher, even both Omni Channels.
Very easy to install on our new smart TV. It gets all the basic channels, CBC, CTV, CityTV, Global, plus others.
bought this to try to better my reception in my bedroom.i live 30 miles east of Toronto, and have used an Antennas Direct DB2e with a Antennacraft 10G201 amp.the reception was quite good, but asthetically, the DB2e was an eyesore mounted on my wall.i used the same amp and location with the C1,and the reception results were the same,if not better on some stations.i compared the 2 over a period of 3 days,as weather plays an effect on reception as well.for a smaller antenna,it sure packs a punch, plus it looks good wherever you mount it.great product,
