- Apple MagSafe charger design flawVerified BuyerReviewed by erinzmd - December 28, 2013
With all the great innovations Apple has achieved in the high tech expensive electronics realm, this is perhaps the worst of them all...The MacBook Air MagSafe chargers are made in such a way that if you fold your charger frequently which most travelers do when on the go, the area closest to the main body of the charger is prone to damage. This is my 3rd charger in 2 years and I'm sure this will also suffer the same fate soon enough. Apple needs to find a way to design the cord end that blends with the body of the charger to make it more durable and less likely to damage.

They do what they're supposed to, however, they are not made of quality. The cord wears out and starts to split apart at about a year into use - the actual plastic stuff holding the wires together begins to peel off. I would highly recommend buying an alternative, if one existed. But for now, just try not to bend the cord too much so it might last longer. These definitely are not worth even $50. They, like many of Apple's accessories, do not meet Apple's high-quality standards. But it's your only option when it comes to macbook pro power cords. As you can see, I had to tape my previous one up after about 8 months of use. Just use electrical and packaging tape if you can't afford the $80.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend. - MagSafe 60W Power AdapterVerified BuyerReviewed by Richs - July 31, 2021
I purchased this power adapter after my other cord became damaged. I like the magnetic connection to my computer, but its best to connect it to the computer so the cord faces away otherwise it blocks the usb ports. I also like that the cord can be wrapped around the power adapter for storage and that the plug pulls off and you can connect both cords together to make the cord longer. The power adapter is available in three different wattages so be sure to get the right one for your computer. The cord is good quality, but I wish I didn't have to buy both cords when I only needed one.

Pros-it works for my MacBook Pro. Cons-I truly believe Apple makes their chargers crappy, on purpose. Their electronic products are great. But their chargers are of poor quality and they become frayed and fall apart too quickly. Apple should make their chargers with better quality materials, 1-because they’re ridiculously expensive, and 2-their chargers should last as long as the electronic product that it comes with. If there is a better quality, less expensive alternative, to this Apple charger, that works for the MacBook Pro, try it. And let me know the name of it, because I’m tired of having to replace Apple’s crappy poor quality chargers.

I am a big Apple user and find their products reliable and easy to use, but this has one significant flaw that Apple never fixed. The cable leading to the magsafe connector is not adequately reinforced and the insulation tends to break just below the short reinforcing collar. It's not dangerous, as it only carries a few volts, but eventually the grounding wire breaks, and the wire is permanently attached to the transformer. If the wire plugged into the transformer, you could just replace a cheap wire. This will be my second replacement unit. For $80 for a wire, transformer, and magnet connector, one would expect many years of service.
