Apple iPad Pro pencil

Love it !!

What a great compliment to the iPad Pro 9.7

Recently I replaced a 4 year old 32GB iPad that the family has been sharing and purchased two 256GB iPad Pro's for my wife and I and gave the older unit to our 11 year old daughter, I also got the Apple pencil's even though there was mixed reviews. Well I can not understand the mixed reviews, my wife is a artist and wow you should see the things she can do with the pencil and my self sometimes it's just easer than typing to write things down but you have a endless supply of paper with note taking app's. What a great added tool to the iPad, wish apple had of added it to the iPhone 7 too.

Apple Pencil needs a holder

Works great for what it was designed for, as a pencil, but Apple forgot to design in or provide a holder, so either you have to buy a third-party one or improvise or put it in your pocket, which is really very inconvenient and unsafe. Also, it is quite tedious to find out its remaining battery power, to have to plug it in the lighting port and swipe right on the iPad screen. Other than these two, I have no other complaints.

Great advance on the stylus

I purchased this along with a new iPad Pro 9.7" with Apple keyboard. Previously I've been using a standard stylus with previous iPads I've had. The new Pencil is a different experience, and coupled with the very fast iPad, it's so responsive for navigating and touch-select. The fine point makes it a delight to precisely choose the right spot all the time. Pros: - very fast, pretty much indistinguishable from a real pencil performance-wise; - really nice to use in apps like iMockups where you select items and move them around, and in Notability where you tap to make selections and can easily then annotate content or simply handwrite notes; - lovely to use in drawing apps (makes me wish I was an artist) such as 53's Paper, Inspire Pro, etc; - battery charge life seems fine, and the IOS charge indicator widget makes it simple to check the level (but you have to use your finger to get that pull-down to show---see Cons below); Cons: - experience as a stylus is not consistent: can click on most boxes but not all in both included Apple IOS (eg Settings and multi-task window resizing) and third-party apps (frustrating as it mostly works great, but then you keep tapping just another box, and it won't 'take' until you stab with your finger; - a bit slippery to hold as it's pretty thin (I haven't tried putting a grip sleeve on, which would help; - a bit noisy as it's hard plastic hitting glass (again, compared with the 'old-style' rubber stylus); - although the quality seems excellent, IMO the overall design is not at the Jobs' level: the tiny cap and Lightning charge adapter are jokes that I worry my cat will swallow or lose (I took them both off, and leave the adapter attached to the end of a spare charging cable, and simply use a plastic pen top with a clip to cover the exposed end and also stop the pencil from rolling on any non-level surface), also the pencil seems too long, especially as there's no way to affix it to the iPad/keyboard case, and it's uncomfortable stuffed in my pocket; Overall, I'd certainly recommend it - it works well for me, but then again I've typically always used a stylus with my iPad - the new Pencil is an order of magnitude better than any I've used. If you use an iPad Pro for creating art or annotating/marking up images, I'd say this is a pretty essential companion.

Best Stylus Ever

The Apple Pencil is great! Pro tip to those worried about losing the cap: - It's magnetic so stick it to the smart connector dots on the iPad - Leave the cap at home and use the lightning adapter as the cap

Nice accessory for iPad Pro

Have to say this is a great addition to the iPad Pro. the Apple Pencil feels great in the hand, is very responsive and works great with the apps who support it. On the downside, its availability is scarce, not too many apps designed for it yet and I wish they included some sort of clip for the pencil so we could attach it somewhere... Oh... I have to admit too that I'm a bit afraid of losing the cap, I wish it was a bit more solidly attached to the the rest of the pencil...

Excellent for more than drawing.

I have the iPad pro and the pencil. It is not only a drawing tool. You can use it for taking precise notes in Notes plus, in Notability, and also Good notes. Excellent programs for notes taking. It is also an excellent tool if you are doing presentations. Check out Doceri. It's an interactive whiteboard application and with the pencil you can ask for a better combination. This is why i bought the Ipad Pro and the pencil. It has more use than people are giving it. Check out these apps and you might find a good use for this pencil.

Better than expected

Having used the Apple pencil as a notetaker in class I can genuinely say it was more than worth the price. It is accurate, fast and since I'm using onenote I'lll never have to carry notebooks around ever again. Fantastic.

feels like a real pen after few hours.

Highly recommended, very easy to use, and great way of saving papers. Downside, works only with certain apps. Very hard to find, but worth. Again Apple, great product.

this is the reason to buy an iPad Pro

I can't imagine buying the iPad Pro without this "accessory". It is the differentiating factor for buying the iPad Pro - and works wonderfully.

It's a drawing tool

For those who need help deciding if they need this with the iPad pro, the answer is it depends. The Apple pencil is a drawing tool purely - it is for artists and emulates a professional drawing pencil - please don't ask why it does not have an eraser or do some research. I am not much of an artist but I love the pressure sensitivity of the pencil and the shading on a slant. Palm rejection is perfect for me so far. Software is just now catching up to what it can do. It comes with a female to female charge adapter, and you can easily charge for a quick 15 seconds off the ipad itself to use it if you happen to be out of juice. All in all I would say if you are an artist you need this. Everyone else if you can afford it then get it as it's good.

Not bad

I recently purchased the Apple Pencil for the Ipad Pro and I am very happy with my purchase. I have been using it with SketchBook and it works as advertised. The only thing I do not like is having to plug it in the Ipad Pro tablet to charge it up. This is a minor inconvenience I can live with. For this reason I'm giving it four starts. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.

Quality, functionality, precision

Quality, functionality and precision are amazing. There are limited applications that are developed to work with the Apple pencil as of today but It is just the beginning. It would be nice to have an attachment system designed or anchor point. Don't let it fall!

Apple pencil

My kids and I have played with the pencil for a few days. It's very responsive and natural to use. It's latency is almost non existent. It's really fun in procreate and sketch pad apps. I'm actually thrilled with it. I gave it a 4 because of a few things they left for me to solve, which I found puzzling from designers at apple who seem to be fairly practical and focused on the user experience. It would be perfect if 1) it had a holder on the iPad or the Smart Cover, it doesn't and that seems like an easy thing to include (eg a clip or magnetic groove or pocket on the device or accessories. 2) the pencil didn't roll so easily (I put a clip from another mechanical pencil to stop this tendency) 3) if the end of the pencil was an eraser 4) charging it is odd as it sticks out of the bottom of the iPad and would be a great lever to get caught or grabbed by someone and get bent/ruined. A female charging cable would be nice to include in the box. Really, my complaints are minor though in the big picture. I am enthusiastic about it overall.

Zero lag. Perfect palm rejection and feels awesome in the hand. Not sure what reviewers are talking about when they say "no apps". Procreate is one of (if not THE) best natural media drawing and painting apps for mobile. Adobe apps such as sketch, photoshop fix and illustrator all support the pencil. Notability, Apple's Notes App, Paper by 53, Autodesk Sketchbook, Pixlemator... I could keep going... that's just scratching the surface. If you're enough of an artist/designer/photographer that you've owned or yearned for a Cintique you'll be extremely happy with the Apple pencil and the iPad pro.

Apple Pencil

Overall pretty cool product, for what you can use it for its amazing

  • from Victoria, BC

Not much you can actually do with it

I bought one thinking my photo apps would use it to and it would replace my Wacom tablet. Not at all. Very limited apps, and Notes is a waste of time. It may become useful, but isn't right now unless some major photo and drawing apps get behind it. Wait for that.
