Best Laptop

I use my laptop for work, which just involves doing things like internet, using Adobe Suites, and emailing. This thing has been with me all around the world and never lets me down. Have had this model since 2014 and is still rock solid with no signs of slowing down. For casual users, this is a no-brainer.

great laptop

No it is not the new kid on the block. But it still holds its own. Its responsive. its light. SSD which should be in every PC and Mac you buy now. Battery life is off the charts. Easy to setup. Still has the MagSafe connector which btw should be on everything that connects to power for charging. SD card slot and enough usb connectors for devices. And still upgradable to the new OSX available. And reasonably priced.

Great for the mininum

I recently purchased this computer at the end of the Boxing Day special. I love this computer and is great for the basics like surfing the Internet and writing up Word documents. I don't do anything else extravagant. Really worth money for this computer.

Best Buy Customer Service

I had purchased this Macbook approximately 1.5 years ago. The Macbook performs great, it did everything I needed it to do. Unfortunately one day I noticed a small crack on the Apple logo on the back of the screen and when I opened the laptop it had actually cracked the screen internally. Now the laptop is unusable due to the damage on the screen. I take care of my electronics, this was never dropped, was always kept in a padded bag and nothing was ever dropped on it etc. I am really disappointed that this has happened as I believe all Apple products have great quality, except for this. Now, the thing that is really upsetting is the service that I received by the Best Buy staff who sold me the Laptop and extended warranty. I was sold the service plan and I was promised by the sales rep that this service plan will cover internal and EXTERNAL damage to the laptop quoting "basically if anything happens just bring it in and we will give you a new one". So, thinking that this service plan was protecting my computer to the max, I brought it into Best Buy to have them tell me "sorry this only covers internal issues". Now they want an absurd amount to fix the screen, basically what I paid for the Macbook!!. So lesson learned DO NOT BUY THE SERVICE PLANS!. The staff will mislead you to buy these plans that they claim protect the customer's purchase. Best Buy really needs to train their staff better so that they are educated on which plans do what. As I found out when I brought my computer in, there is a monthly plan that covers external damage but I was never offered this option, only the one I was sold or else I would have opted for this. Very disappointed in my experience.

My 2nd Air and a lot worse than my first...

This is my second MacBook Air and when I compared it to my first one I found it definitely had softer aluminum (my top case is sunken in), the screen is washed out + has a yellow tint, and the keys are a lot softer to the touch. Also, when I checked to see whether the screen was made by LG or Samsung the display code came back to screens which can be bought on AliExpress (3rd party + inferior quality). Best Buy is engaging in some subpar business practices if they are importing third party refurbished laptops and selling them for full price. This definitely seems like an inferior product.

Still a good value. Solid build quality, Decent perfomance, Amazing battery life.

Apple has done a good job with the MacBook air. The 5th gen ULV processor (yes I know it’s dated) in this machine is still super energy efficient and powerful enough to do what an Ultrabook should do, which is run office apps, web browse, play video, light gaming and, be able to run a full day or longer on battery; mostly thanks to OSX and apple’s engineering. The other thing that is often overlooked is the GPU in this made for apple Intel CPU (5250u/5350u); this is the HD 6000 version which has 48 cores. When you compare that to a current gen Kaby lake 620 gpu with only 24 cores, the HD 6000 ends up being approx 19% faster in games (considering architectural differences). The build quality is phenomenal and super rigid due to it's unibody full aluminum construction. The Keyboard is fantastic and the system is dead silent even at full load. Positives: Battery life – 12hrs plus. I ran mine with moderate use for a day and half. Weight – under 3 lbs Build Quality – all aluminum unibody construction that is very rigid and strong (this is not that cheap aluminum paper thin sheet metal stuff wrapped over a metal frame like you find on PC laptops at this price range). Graphics – HD 6000 48cores and is faster than current gen UHD 620 by approx 19% in games. Negatives: Screen – it would be nice to have a 1080p IPS screen. I still think this is a great value. When you look at the Windows based competition in this price category you do find better spec’d laptops but the manufacturers end up making too many sacrifices and cut corners in other areas to try and keep the price down. Usually the windows competitors will have inferior build quality, noisy fans, run hot, weaker battery life or any combination thereof and they usually look and feel cheap. It's not all about what's under the hood.. the body is just as important! Hopefully this helps anyone looking to make a buying decision.

Slow machine for the price

Im a stereotypical programmer. I generally like a faster machine for my main coding uses. A friend and colleague has been all over me to switch to Apple for some time, so needing a new computer and being a Linux user, I decided to give Apple a shot. I was fairly disappointed. The machine looks good, but is about it in my opinion. It's not terrible, but for this price I can get a Windows machine for the same price that is at least 25% faster, this I can guarantee. Bestbuy has machines listed for this price that are much faster than this. Not sure what another reviewer said when mentioned you have to pay for Windows updates - atypical Apple fanship there. I've never paid for a Windows update. I actually prefer Linux anyway.

For reviewer Yvette

The Air hasn't been updated for a while, so the 2015 model may be the latest. Apple is discontinuing in in favour of the smaller, lighter (and much more expensive) MacBook. But it is an excellent computer and will not soon be obsolete. I know many Air owners and all love theirs. Unlike Windows machines the upgrades to the operating system are free and backwards-compatible for many years, and a 2015 Air should be good for at least five years of upgrades to the latest yearly iteration of OSX. As for warranty: I always recommend people get AppleCare after the first year. As long as it's under warranty, Apple will fix it. You may know all this already, of course. I'm an Apple user (with numerous Apple devices--including three MacBooks--in my family).

My First MacBook Won't Be My Last

Always a Windows user, I was a bit nervous about switching to a MacBook. I was worried about the learning curve, but so far, I'm amazed at how easy and intuitive most actions are. I am thoroughly enjoying this new experience with a MacBook. It's great to have it sync with my iPhone automatically.

Reliable and convenient size for travel

I've had my MacBook Air just over a year. It is a very convenient size to travel with. This is my first Apple product and can truthfully say a reliable notebook. Unfortunately the flat keyboard I dislike but have a separate keyboard when I need to do a lot of typing. I would definitely recommend this MacBook Air notebook to family and friend's. ET

Amazin laptop

So I got this while it was on sale. I had a regular Macbook (plastic casing) about 7 years ago for college and enjoyed it but it was so bulky. I really like the feel and sleek look of the Macbook Air. It's also incredibly light! Screen brightness and resolution are amazing. Took me a few hours to get used to the keyboard.. For some reason I found the layout strange, but once I got going on it I had no problem. Really like the backlit keys! This model comes with 128gb SSD. Once all is said an done you are left with around 100gb of storage space. So if need something with a lot more room, this isn't for you. The Air is super fast. Have had no issues with speed or lag. Glad that this unit has 8gb RAM. One person indicated that their unit was the 2015 model... I confirmed on mine it is a 2017 release. There was a nearly identical 2015 model, but they re-released it in 2017 with more RAM and a slightly faster processor (1.8gb i5 5th gen). Definitely suggest getting.. especially if it's on sale!!!

check your model date when you buy

The computer is fine. But I consider a computer a long-term investment and I wanted the latest model. I noticed (after my store warranty had ended) that my new June 2017 purchase is actually an "early 2015" model (found the info under "about this Mac"). This affects how long I've got before Apple considers the computer "vintage" and won't repair it or update the software anymore (which is what happened to my last computer). I'm not happy that I didn't know to ask about the manufacture date and I'm not happy that this information wasn't disclosed.
