Can't access when travelling to certain countries. Poor battery life.

1. I bought and installed the system specifically to monitor my home while vacationing in Cuba. When trying to access the camera via the Arlo site in Cuba, a notice page came up saying that the US prohibits Netgear from viewing the page in Cuba, Sudan, ....(forget where else). It was useless to me although the alerts came up on my phone, which made things worse when getting alerts at 3:12 am and not knowing what is going on. 2. They only store 7 days worth of data on the cloud otherwise they charge for additional service. I have no clue what caused the alert in the middle of the night cause it was erased when I got home. Had it been a burglar, I'd be out of luck. 3. After 3 weeks of operation the battery is at 31%. Looks like I'll need to charge monthly. We haven't had very cold weather yet. Other than that it works well. Maybe Neatgear can setup a hosting site from Canada and/or make it clear to Canadian customers travelling to Cuba.

Be careful

I bought this 4 months ago. Only after one month one of the battery is dead. After three months one of the camera can not detect motion any more. And I need to pay for the shipping to get the replacement camera. Really bad.

Great camera but not great battery

I have bought my system 2 month ago and I have not experience our winter yet but I just had my camera in the freezer(-19c) and notice battery goes way faster and also I have error message saying "your camera need to warm up before you can use it" Tempter get way colder than -19C here in the winter so hope they works in the winter... I also have one of camera by front door. Which they gone off about 3 times in 2 weeks and I have check 'Live " really short time for about 2 times. my battery was 13% left in 2 weeks. I wondering if they detect some movement even they don't go off and use battery?

Buyer beware

FIRST OF DO NOT BUY - why - customer support VERY poor - as of this date the Arlos system is down - I cannot sign on using my desk top or lap top- - windows 10, Windows 7 -- Browser tried icognito, internet explorer, chrome firefox -- none work - Changed all my parameters - deleted cookies and history, uninstalled and re installed chrome - NOTHING - contacted net gear chat 4TIMES - no resolve - they do not even know what is going on - no FEEDBACK AT all. Had one camera go bad - - door issue no allowing battery to connect - ( a few months after it was bought) - the camera was hooked up to a Arlo Solar panel and left to charge - so the door did not "WEAR". Lots of small glitches - along the way -- had to contact support several times. These cameras are advertised as out door - that's ok if you live in an area that does not go below freezing- the solar panels will not charge bellow 0 C - the camera batteries will not take a charge below 0 - so you would have the take them inside and "defrost" them before you charge.( a real pain - especially if you are away - so why but them) TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY - how can it be a security system if you cannot access it -- Support SUCKS - they dd not give a damn - they have your money -- better systems out there for less I would throw them in the garbage if they were not so expensive (and not worth it) - SO MAYBE ARLO WILL GET OFF THEIR BUTTS AND START SUPPORTING THE CUSTOMERS THAT WERE DUMB ENOUGH TO BUY THEIR CRAP

Not for cold climate

I bought this system because it was totally wireless and reviews were good. I love the system with one exception. This year we went away for Christmas. I armed the camera's and set push notifications. Christmas in Saskatchewan was very cold. It was the first time since I bought the camera's early last year that the temp fell below -20C. The camera's stopped working. It was honestly the one time since buying them that we were away as a family with no one at home. I was and am disappointed. I have three camera's up. I decided to hard wire power to one of them and remove the battery since I read that the battery is what causes them to stop working in the cold. I can confirm that the hardwired camera can withstand colder temperatures. It is not until -28C that this one will also fail. I like everything else about them. The control is great for setting up monitoring times etc., the battery life is excellent. I have added a HDD to the base station and have permanent recordings of events. I will keep them but I would not spend the 700 again that I have to buy them again. I would go with another solution. If I have to hard wire them I may as well go a different route with camera's that can withstand the temperature. If your climate does not get this cold they are golden. Buy them. if you live in a cold climate you will have times with no monitoring.

Batteries only last 2 days + horrible customer support

I own a martial arts academy and the cameras are actively recording 5 hours per day 5 days a week (during class time). The cameras are ready to record 24/7 if motion or audio is detected but only actively record during class times. The system is NOT designed for active recording which I originally thought. Do NOT buy if you plan to actively record more than 1 hour per day. The batteries will not last. I have to charge the batteries every single day which is annoying. Other than the battery issue the system works as intended.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Portable but needs better resolution

The camera is very portable since it runs on battery and does not need a power or internet cable. I think the video image is fine if the subject is within 15 feet, but it needs better resolution if the subject is more than 15 feet. For me, if I have the camera on for 24 X 7, the battery lasts about a month.

  • from Edmonton Area

It will not work in cold weather.

This camera does not work in cold weather. it is wasting of your money to buy it if you live in Canada.

  • from Edmonton Area

Do not buy it

This camera not working when the weather is cold around minus 15 C, if you live in Canada do not buy is useless in winter. also the Battery do not last as mentioned in their specification.

My batteries are less than one year old and must be replaced! Should have put in the regular wired system! Would have been cheeper!

Winter and Poor Image Quality

These cameras are ridiculously misleading. They will not function in even relatively cold temperatures. This does not seem to be battery related either. As an attempted fix, brought them indoors to mount in window, they will not sense movement through glass! All this plus completely low image quality at any distance. Image quality of any movement is totally blurred lacking any resolution at all. Pointless gimmick that lacks any actual security application.

Arlo Pro 2

I have 5 cameras & have used this setup for the last year. I have had no issues at all. I really like this system. Very easy setup.

  • from Toronto, ON

Slow and blurry

Disappointed. The motion detection range is only 1 car range. Picture is not clear. Movement is often a compete blur. It is not possible to capture face or license plate number. Not recommended.

IPhone X users, BEWARE!

Having problem using my (new) iPhone X and this camera systems software. The audio does not work (talking through to camera)(yes, I allowed the software to use my microphone). At first I thought it was a problem with the Arlo. But the audio(microphone) does work fine, on my iPhone 6S, iPad, and Mac Computer. Therefore, it appears to me, they need to upgrade Arlo's software to work with the iPhone X. The video works fine on this phone, but not the audio. And if I were to return a product for NOT working, it definitely would NOT be the iPhone X! Netgear, FIX YOUR SOFTWARE!!! Having voiced this complaint, I do like and am using this system(just not on my iPhone X). It does seem to work very well, as advertised. The geofencing works very well. GREAT for not having to run wires. When watching the video live, there is a slight but noticeable delay. But overall, I do like this system and am hoping they will come out soon, with an upgrade, so that the iPhone X will work with their software.

Great Product!

I have the Arlo HD pro 2 cam setup and theywork as advertised. For people complaining about lag and such is cause their wifi connection / internet sucks. I dont have this issue that they talk about. They should learn more about internet and wifi setups before blaming it on a product that actually works off their wifi network so its the peoples internet issue not the product!

Garbage Product with Garbage Support

Cameras constantly disconnect and go offline. They are down more than they are up. Customer support is horrible and provides no useful solutions. This product is a fraud and support a scam.

  • from Surrey, BC

Do not buy this product!

The product does not function as advertised and the service is abysmal. Both my cameras shutdown as soon as the temperature drops below about 6 degrees. The support is a ridiculous process that you send info and they respond 24-48 hours later. Its taken a week of run around and required me to pay shipping. Now I find out they are only sending 1 camera. Another couple weeks and more shipping and maybe they replace the other one. Stay far away from this product.

3rd time lucky

I would have given 5 stars if the product had worked the 1st time. It took 2 returns to get a working system. Third time lucky I guess. Setup on my first package was a breeze. I was amazed at how simple it was to get up and running. Unfortunately, one of the cameras produced a blurry image. This was not a resolution issue, but an out of focus optical issue. I had an online chat with Netgear and uploaded the image from the camera. They agreed there was a problem with the camera and offered to send a replacement in 7 to 10 days. I chose to return the product to Best Buy for an exchange. The exchange was easy. The setup of my second package did not go as well as the 1st. One of the cameras could not maintain sync with the base unit. Again, I contacted Netgear and went through their trouble shooting process and again they agreed there was a problem with one of the cameras. Best Buy exchanged again with no problem. My third package had cameras with good images that have maintained sync for several days now with no issues. The resolution on these cameras is not great, but it is good enough for my purpose. It makes sense that the video has to be compressed to keep the file sizes as small as possible. Otherwise, watching library files or live video could eat up your smartphone data pretty quick. There is a video quality adjustment, but I haven’t played with it. It took a bit of experimentation to get the motion detection working the way I wanted it. The motion detection does not respond well to motion coming straight at the camera. Now that the cameras are set up and working properly I am very happy with the system.

Should not be called security cameras

Pros: - clear picture and sound - easy setup - convenient mounting - discrete/inconspicuous - local USB storage option - nice app and web access - free cloud storage Cons: - price - battery at 47% after 3 days - poor motion detection - late alerts - default recording only 3 seconds Despite the price I decided to give this a chance based on brand reputation and other reviews. Unfortunately they did not meet my expectations. Once you get over the price, you realize that there are some nice features that justify the price tag. The build quality is excellent and the setup is extremely easy. The app and web access are really easy to use and work well. The main problem for me is that they motion detection only works horizontally across the center of the frame. Meaning, if someone walks into the frame from the top, a trigger will not be set off until the pass the center horizontal plane. By then, with the delay to start the recording, the person is often already out of frame and you capture nothing. You can adjust the camera and have the image sideways so the horizontal plane is in the opposite direction but then it's hard to view. Other security cameras record continually so when a trigger is set it can record 10 seconds before the trigger. That's an actual security camera. The next biggest issue is battery life. The cameras come with fully charged batteries (which is nice) but after 3 days I'm at 47% battery left. At this rate I'll be charging them every week. I realize that I've watched more live video than I would in the future because it's new but that is unacceptable. Overall they are good quality cameras but the battery just doesn't last and, without constant recording, the delay to record and trigger just makes them useless as security cameras. I am extremely disappointed and let down so I'll have to pack them up and return them. Looks like I'll have to wired. Hopefully this helps others get the best product for their needs.

Great camera.. but motion detection is poor

I got this camera system to upgrade my home monitoring network. Loved the picture quality, ease of setup and wireless connectivity. Smartphone app was good to monitor cameras. Live play was terrific, especially with audio to see what was happening at home or business in real time. The big drawback for me however was the camera's motion detection.. which was poor and unreliable. I set the cameras for maximum motion detection sensitivity (100%) and it still missed vehicles pulling into my driveway or people walking right to my front door, well within camera range. I monitored for 2 full days to see if MD got better, but it didn't. Even when motion was detected, it would miss the first few seconds of the motion before recording .. sometimes with the person already out of camera range! For this kind of money, I want a system that senses motion RELIABLY and records those events in full. Kind of pointless to have a monitoring system that misses half the activity at your home or business. That was a deal breaker for me.. so I had to return the unit. Too bad.. I really liked the system otherwise. If you're using this system for simple live monitoring, then this system will do the job well. But if you're looking for a dependable security system that will catch ALL activity at your house or business, this one falls short.. at least in my experience. Pros: - Excellent cameras. Great picture quality, wide view range (130 degrees I think), excellent night vision. - Easy to set up and use. Almost too easy. Magnetic mount makes it easier for someone to tamper or steal. Would recommend a more secure mount for easily accessible locations. -good wireless connectivity. Easily hooked up to my wifi network with router in basement and cameras outside - Nice app to monitor cameras live Cons: - Motion detection is poor, unreliable. Missed a lot of activity. Even events it caught would start after a few seconds delay, sometimes missing the subject that initiated motion. -motion detection does not work through glass. If you wanted to set these cameras up inside the house to monitor outdoors, it won't catch any motion outside - Battery life. I was already down to 60% camera battery after 2 days of usage. That would mean having to take the camera down and recharge the battery every few weeks , which is a pain especially in winter. As a result, you would need to have the cameras installed in easy to reach places to access when batteries need recharging, which increases tampering chances. Would prefer AC powered cameras instead.

best thing ever

Just purchased this set of 2, took me about 15 minutes to set both in place (screw the 2 bases in place/strong magnet) and synchronize them...beside seeing the images on your mobile, you can be at your desk and view your home....from your work computer. they have rechargeable batteries with a 9V charger, comes in the box. the image is neat during the day....and the best thing...the clear image in the dark!! i wasn't sure of this purchase, however the 2 young men that explain how it works, were a great help to make the decision. I recommend this product for your piece of mind. LOVE IT!!

  • from Calgary, AB

Love them

The connectivity within my phone is really fast, the battery life is really good is been a month since I installed the cameras and the battery power is at 80%, not bad, really recommend getting Arlo pro cameras.

  • from North York, ON

Poor Picture Quality

The look is very adorable, however the video is far from high definition, probably it is because it is wireless. After all it cost hundreds of dollars, this is not results I would like. I would not recommend this product.

  • from Calgary, AB

Very impressed

Super easy set up, one screw (included) is all it takes. Set up process very simple. The picture quality, and sound are great and even the mic is great. Will highly recommend to family & friends, very happy with this purchase.

  • from Delta, BC

Simple, elegant solution

The Arlo Pro is very easy to set up, provides quality audio and video, and is scalable for all applications - indoor and outdoor. The image quality both day and night is very good, and so far, the battery life is excellent. If installing outdoors, I would recommend purchasing the outdoor mount as it is more secure than the ones provided in the box (though these ones are great if unconcerned about theft of the camera). If you can afford the price point, I would highly recommend

  • from Chatham ontario

Prout support terrible

Purchased the Arlo Pro 4 cameras and base station on the 7th of Feb 2017 The process to set up these cameras was a breeze. The problem was one of the cameras would disconnet from the base with 12 hours. Emailed customer support, they suggested moving the camera closer to the base I relocated it 6 times changed batteries etc. Camera keeps disconnecting, Arlo customer support would not respond after the initial contact. Having one defective camera is a common theme with Arlo, just go to their website. Also have poor customer support as well. There is no way to reconnect the camera online, you have manually pull the battery and reset the camera. A real pain if the cameras are 3 hours away. Thankfully I kept the packaging as they are being returned to Best Buy for a refund tomorrow Feb 27. Great product if they all worked and support was available. Going to a hardwire system now, back to the Internet for more research.

  • from Saskatooon,SK

These cameras ONLY save video to a 3rd party cloud system, nothing is saved locally unless downloaded from the 3rd party software. This makes the cameras hack-able and also if the 3rd party software goes down or out of business it will virtually make the cameras useless. HUGE and PRICEY disappointment from Netgear. Go with a brand that saves to a local hard drive, they are cheaper and more secure and have the same options such as remote smartphone viewing. BUYER BEWARE!

  • from Victoria, BC

Great little camera

I have this camera for about a month now. The camera is easy to install and it has free 7 days cloud storage. The only thing is missing for me is perimeter notification. It would be nice to have this option because I don't need a notification every time when a car drive by or a person walk down my street. The notification is draining my phone battery

Great Product for Cottage

Just installed these at the cottage over Christmas. Very simple setup, love the magnetic mounts, although I suppose someone could easily make off with the camera? Did find the cameras really suck bandwidth on the wifi, couldn't stream a movie but all the more reason to geofence-app said beta but it appears to work fine. Both cameras and the base required a firmware upgrade, one of the cameras went weird for awhile but sorted itself out. So far very happy, app seems more than adequate, can't wait for the solar panels......

  • from Prince George, BC

Arlo Cameras

I purchased two Arlo cameras with base station several months ago. I live outside of the typical high speed internet service area and went with these cameras because they work with cellular internet. I'm not a fan of the motion activation on these cameras as moving objects must enter the camera view from the left or right sides only - not great for capturing the face of an intruder or vehicle plate. The iPhone app is a little sluggish to respond and the base station fails to reconnect automatically if the internet hub loses a connection temporarily. On the upside, these cameras continued to work without fail during more than 3 weeks of -20 to -30 Celsius!!!!

  • from Vaudreuil, QC

Remarkable !

Quick and easy installation. Pairing is a cinch, the image quality is perfect, and it picks up the sound clearly. Although the price had me hesitating at first, I have to say, I have absolutely no regrets. We've experienced some low temperatures, and see no degradation to the battery power. I strongly suggest the purchase to anyone, wish I had made the decision before the vandalism ! I'll more than likely add on at least one more unit !

  • from Edmonton, AB

Not for Canadian weather.

I am disappointed, misleading information on the Best Buy website about the operating temperature. This system maybe for the Californian weather. My system is not working more than two weeks because of the cold temperature. Really big chance I can use it from April to October if I am lucky. I don't know why are they call it all weather camera system. Definitely not for Canadian weather.

  • from Richmond Hill, ON

Good product, but not great

I had both the arlo free and arlo pro. It seems arlo pro is better but motion sensor is better with arlo free instead.
