Arlo wireless camera

I bought these cameras but will not recommend them. They are often off line. Instructions to get back on are not clear. Battery expense is high. Also if a camera is not working, you have to pay the shipping to have it repaired.

Doesn't live up to expectations

I positioned my cameras around the house pointed towards doors and towards gates. All were outside. Installation was easy but the set-up took some tweeking to removed moving branches that were setting off the motion recording. After 3 weeks I am returning. I had to charge the batterys after about 10 days, but I chalked that up to the false recording I had becuase of branches,and aiming the camera, etc. I ended up having the cameras "armed" only between 9 in the evenign and 6 in the morning. Aside from a few racoon sightings, there was nothing that made the camera film and record. Most nights were uneventful. After another 10 days the batteries are down to 50% again. This means that I'll be taking down the cameras and charging them about every 3 weeks, and this with nothign really to records. That will get boring very quickly. If I armed the cameras every time I left the house and then at night, the batteries wouldn't last 2 weeks. I need a wired solution. Oh the other thing I should mention is that netgear is very good at limiting themselves as the only option for accessories. The charger for example has to be theirs, otherwise you get an error message. Which means if you want to plug in your camera and leave it charging all the time you need their proprietary charger, and nothing else. Solar charging? Doesn't' work below zero degrees apparently. Actually neither does it if you have the camera plugged in. Might be ok if you're in florida, but not where there is a winter and definitely not in Canada where snow flied for 6 months of the year.

Easy setup from box to outdoor install

I bought this item, even though some reviews were not so good. My experience so far after 1 week has been pretty positive. The quick guide was pretty staright forward. I added the cameras 1 by 1, and all went well. I noticed that it was easier to add cameras manually by touching the base sation and then the cameras, rather than using the software app. All is good so far, I will dig deeper into the settings and see how things go. :)

Rechargeable batteries in Arlo Pro cameras are problematic

Bought the 4 camera Arlo Pro system from Best Buy in January 2018. Batteries initially lasted about 3 months. Then in June they died in 2-3 days. After many complaints to Arlo from owners, they issued a new firmware update that solved the problem somewhat - our batteries now last a month on average, which still sucks. Arlo have acknowledged there is a problem and say they are working on it but no fix yet.So far, their customer service has been pretty much non-existent.

Very bad system. Do not buy. Its not worth the hefty price tag!

This is a horrible system. The app itself is very unreliable and not very well designed/user freindly. If used in a busy area, the camera battery will have to be changed very frequently making the wireless part of this system very inconvenient. The lag time is quite bad, so what you are seeing on the app is behind quite a bit. Also, I have only had the system running for less then two weeks and one camera has already stopped working/communicating with the system. For what this system costs, do not buy it!

Not happy with the Arlo Pro

Very poor app. Huge lag. By the time you get notification thief has come and gone. Detection range only 20 feet. That’s not good when mounted on second floor.

Finicky!!!!!

I bought Arlo Pro 2 because it was wireless and showed flexibility in how the cameras could be positioned for excellent detection... NOT happy at all with how FINICKY that actually is!!! Unless the camera’s very outer edge is able to be triggered, no recording begins until the disturbance leaves (the other) line of sight. This doesn’t help if you’re trying to be discreet with where the camera is placed, or if someone happens to be approaching directly towards the unit. For the range the camera shows, it should have the ability of detecting everything within that spectrum... otherwise, why show it?? Also, if motion is still happening, why stop recording after 15 - 17 seconds... if it’s still in front of the camera?? Overall, I’m not too impressed.

System Unreliable

We bought our Arlo Pro system with 4 cameras and the base station in January 2018. Batteries typically lasted 3 months with setting them to Armed mode in the evening and back to Disarmed in the morning. Then suddenly batteries on all four cameras lasted 60-72 hours before going dead. We tried everything recommended in the manual to increase battery life but to no avail. Getting hold of Arlo customer service has been a nightmare. Will update this if they honour the 1 year warranty and replace the system.

Terrible Product and support do not buy this, it is junk

I had the arlo pro system for 1 month before it stopped recording, even tough everything looks configured properly. I worked with support for 3 hours until they gave up and escalated to level 3 support and I have heard nothing from them since (Over week). It is impossible to get follow up information from Netgear on existing cases, you will spend hours on hold waiting for an agent to answer. I bought this for security, and it has been down for over a month with no end in sight. I asked for a replacement base but requests are ignored and escalation is not doing anything. Based on this I would not consider any other netgear products either.

Bad customer service from Arlo

Bad customer service from Arlo. One of my cameras keeps failing to connect at different times. Tried to get cutomer service from Arlo, 1 After 90 days of purchase you get charged for phone calls to support center. 2 Only way to chat with a actual representative, is by online chat. I waited 30 mins until someone connected with me. I tried numerous times before this and never connected. Also the range is not what it describes. Maybe get 20 feet but connectivity goes way down. This is with base station. The camera also turns off at -15 deg celsius not -20 For a security camera to fail and have no support these days is unacceptable.

Doesn't "Brave it all" as advertised, turns off in cold temps

Bought these cameras to monitor the property, because the advertisements said all weather: "Rain or shine, hot or cold, the IP65-certified Arlo Pro camera will brave it all." Brave it all apparently means operating temperatures above -20C. In Alberta in the winter many days are below -20 and on those days I can't rely on these cameras to secure my property. However, they do turn back on at about -17 when the temperature starts to rise without having to do anything. Another issue is that one of the cameras motion detection stops functioning and the camera needs to be reset for it to work again. The software is great on the phone and online. It is very well designed and simple to use and understand. Love the push notifications when motion is detected. I bought these when the Arlo Pro 2 wasn't available. These are 720 resolution. I would definitely recommend getting the Pro 2's 1080 resolution as the 720 can be a bit grainy especially if you are monitoring a larger property. Hard to make out faces clearly more than about 5m from the camera.

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!!!

I bought a pro set, drilled my holes to install it and everything seemed to be fine. Until two days later when I got a notification that one unit's battery was dead!!! Only 2 days from full. Ok, I thought I would contact support letting them know my issue, thinking perhaps the battery is a dud. Well they told me I need to swap the battery with another unit to see if it's the unit or the battery. Hey, that makes sense. So I charged up the battery, climbed up the ladders to swap the batteries with another unit, and low and behold, the unit drained from 100% to 65% in 14 hours. So it must be the unit right? Well I contacted support again thinking hey, it makes sense! They said I need to resync it, then they said I need to send them a picture of cut wires???? UM HELLO, there are no visible wires connecting to the battery!!! I'm returning this garbage. DO NOT BUY IT THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT!!! They played games with me online to ignore replacing the unit, an impossible task it seems.

Not worth the money!

I bought this thinking it was going to be amazing since it's so expensive... I was wrong. Live view is not really "live" as it's delayed by 2-3 seconds. Camera stops recording even though there's still motion in its view. Battery life is terrible! Website states battery should last 2-3 months but mine only lasted 2 days! Battery will only last 2-3 months if your camera is recording 5 mins maximum per day! Not happy with its performance. I expected better for the price I paid. I returned it to store!

YOUR CAMERA NEEDS TO WARM UP BEFORE YOU CAN USE IT...

THESE ARE GREAT WHEN THEY ARE MOUNTED SOMEPLACE OTHER THAN CANADA I GUESS. THEY WORK WELL WHEN THE TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE ZERO. THE BATTERIES ARE GOOD IF THE CAMERA DOES NOT SEE A LOT OF MOTION. OUR FRONT DRIVEWAY ONE SEEMS TO CATCH ALL THE TRAFFIC ON THE STREET EVEN AFTER DIALING IN THE MOTION DETECTION SETTINGS AS BEST AS POSSIBLE. IF YOU LIVE IN THE LOWER MAINLAND OF BC YOU MAY GET FULL USE OF THESE, BUT ANYWHERE ELSE, YOU ARE SUBJECT TO MOTHER NATURES WRATH.

MUST GET!

Best i have seen

did lots of research before buying. this turns out to be the best from best buy in function, convenience, style, and reliability. after i brought it home, the set up was easy. i found that you can customize the settings of each camera to turn on and off motion detection, adjust sensitivity, and set up different combination of cameras on duty.... i wish the siren could be louder though. very happy so far. oh...forgot to mention the battery...still at 95% after 2 weeks of use!

defective out of the box

Right out of the box 1 camera did not work which happens and I understand, what I do not understand is Best Buys only option for me because I live 250 kms from the closest store ( I ordered online) is to return the entire package by courier, wait for them to inspect it and then they will send out a replacement. I do not understand why 1 replacement camera cannot be sent out. Now I not only have to unhook everything, package it up, take it to the courier and wait for a replacement to be sent out I also am without security for weeks until the replacement is sent. Policy needs to change or I will shop elsewhere

Arlo Pro

When the product works, its good. However I bought six units, one did not work and I HAD TO PAY THE POSTAGE TO SEND IT BACK AND GET IT REPLACED. This principle is totally unacceptable. When the temperature drops the units shut off. In Alberta during the winter, that is of no use. Will I buy it again - doubtful.

Awesome system

I bought this system to monitor my cottage and keep an eye on the kids while we are there. It works perfectly. I really wasn't expecting the camera at the dock to connect without extending my wireless network...but it did!! Everything just works immediately. You literally grab the cameras and move them around as your needs change. They are magnetic so they will just attach to anything metal. The mounts work on the same principle so you can easily just pull the cameras off them and out them elsewhere. They don't use a lot of data which is a big concern for me since I use cellular data for internet access at my cottage. The mics pick up everything and the motion detection alerts just work! The only thing that could be better is that the speakers for talking back through the cameras are very weak So outside no one will hear you unless its dead quite

new arlo system

only had system for 10 days but so farI have found it easy to install anitworkswell. my closest camera is 15ft.from my router and the farthest ones about 200 ft.out they'll give great picture quality. Have not had to charge battery yet but like the idea of getting a spare battery and charger if I can find one.Will give another review in January to let you all know how the system working -40 weather.

This is a great product and it was very simple to install and get up a running - less than 90 minutes from start to finish Only thing that would be a slight improvement was a better definition on the actual imaging but it is pretty good.

Buyer Beware Not Worth the Money

I have had my Arlo Pro for roughly 5 months. Within those 5 months I have had to uninstall/ew-install them numerous times and their connectivity to the base station is hit and miss (they are all within 50 feet from base station). What I once thought was my solution to wireless security, has turned out to be a part time job trying to keep them online. If I was to do this over again, I would source a wired product as the 5 Pro Cameras I have are nothing more then magnetic paperweights.

Charging Battery considerations

I recently purchased a 4 camera pro system. Syncing to base station was pretty easy, contrary to instructions you do not need to hold the base station sync button for 10 secs, just press it once and then press camera sync button once. These cameras will placed outside around the perimeter of the house at least 10 feet or higher up. How do you charge the battery? You can see the inconvenience so to lessen this, you need to buy at least one extra battery which comes with a charger so you can do a removal/replacement at the same time. Not a 5 star product until the battery situation can be dealt with better. You can place an AC source close by for each camera and have it constantly powering the camera but that defeats having it wireless, wifi or AC. Read there may be a solar panel DC source in the works.

Good System but too dependant on the internet

I recently picked up Arlo Pro, and set up was relatively painless. However one of the cameras gave a loud 'line noise' sound constantly. It looks to have had an over cranked microphone. Also sounds like some people got over cranked motion sensors. Exchange for another in process, having to pack everything back up to exchange one camera is very annoying... then have to set everything back up. The good on this system is the video is good (720p), and the battery in the cameras is an improvement being rechargeable. However, they're lithium meaning they are slowing decaying and will be useless in a few years all needing to be replaced. Wished they used the advanced LSD NiMH batteries but see about that down the road. Attaching a solar panel to your outdoor cameras is a good way to keep it charged or at least be longer periods in between charges. The app seemed fine, you can view your cameras and select a live option where it will start to 'live feed'. Delay of about 6 seconds for load, and the feed itself is about 3 seconds delay. It is a cloud based system and seem to want to keep It that way It does offer limited local storage, where it would send a copy both to the cloud and your local drive. If you do lose internet it will keep storing any captured video locally. As they seem to want to keep it cloud based only consider so BE AWARE: - Your local storage is just a video back up storage device, you need to dismount the storage drive and insert it to your laptop or PC to view what is on there, not well planned out at all - No internet you have no way to view any of your cameras live, I believe the loud alarm will still sound if a camera detected something provided you did have it set that way before you lost connection. Basically, they may just be motion/sound detectors while your internet is out - You can put your modem, router, and Arlo base station on a UPS system so they can still function in a power outage. Since the cameras have their own power source it could be useful - In an internet outage trying to see why your base station alarmed you will need to dismount the drive, so will be missing anything new In summary this system is quite intuitive but lacks the secure in security. A good security system should have work-arounds, fail safes, and most definitely not depending on a service in order to function.

So far so good

Had the Arlo Pro system for over a month and its working as advertised. Video quality is good and the App is easy to use especially after playing around with it. Setting up modes a little tricky but not bad at all. Monitoring live works and the free storage is great. We'll see how long the batteries last but I'm glad they are rechargeable.

Arlo Pro

I absolutely love this system! Bought the units end of December 2016 and works well. Battery life is what I expected it to be. Only negatives that I have: 1) Bit of lag with using the two way speakers and pretty weak sound for "outdoor" use. 2) A bit of lag with receiving video after receiving a motion detection alert but this is probably due to our home's internet speed which could use a major bump in processing speeds. Not a huge deal. It's still alerting me quickly that one of the cameras had been activated which is what I want. 3) Advertised as "outdoor" cameras, it's pretty lame to not include outdoor mounts for each camera. Instead, they have to be purchased individually. THIS IS MY MAIN BEEF

Can't say I didn't try

So I purchased this system for the second time, first system went back because of constant motion detection's when there was none. This one won't even acknowledge the base unit, or any of the cameras.... At least the first one was easy to set up..... This unit is junk.

One out of four cameras was DOA

The product is pretty slick, and I do like the mobile app.. wish it had Homekit integration for actions though. No fault of Best Buy, but if you have a problem with a camera, you have to pay to ship the defective unit back to Netgear and then wait a week or two for a replacement to show up. The issue is very commonly reported on the Netgear community forums.

Special long lasting wireless ip with voice and video small file size

I like how the camera can last a long time good to have as backup camera to catch people removing camera from your main camera. You can hide it in place like flower pots or pretty much anything away from your main camera. USB backup drive only limits to about 2TB after format so maybe it is using a FAT 32 file system. Tested on my 4TB and 8TB drive. Bad thing is the video quality drop dramatically when wide dynamic range of the scene kick in like open of a door to the outside enviroment. Hope they add a WDR to the version of the camera in the future. I like the mounting live streaming feature but it is hidden inside all the setting menu. It got less delay than the normal live streaming. I think it is a good wireless system but for live feeds wise better to stick with other wired camera system for better reliability because the new base seem to cause the camera to go offline more often than the old base. Overall it is a good wireless system but you will need a backup system with wires.

battery is defective

I bought as an upgrade to my arlo original with 2 Q cameras. bought the 4 arlo pro package. the cameras is bigger than the original one which doesnt magnetize well with most metal surface now because of heavier weight and size. 2 of the batteries from 2 cameras is defective. batteries drop from 100% to 33% and 27% in 3 days and they barely record anything from the basement only record 1 time and the other camera record 28 clips of videos. the other 2 camera with good batteries record over 89 clips and still have about 89% left. another issue I have is camera keep going offline. removing the camera battery and put back doesnt help resolve it. only way is to unglug the base or reset it using app. 3rd issues is the usb drive have a limit of max 2tb using fat32. I used a 4tb and after format only shown about 1.9tb. also tried an 8tb and same thing only shown about 1.9tb after format. i like the usb backup feature of the new base.

looks like BEST BUY PAID their staff to write reviews on this product before the Holidays. Just look at all the review added in December. This product is not that great compared to the average review, to warrant 5 stars.

Slick . . . BUT!

The Arlo Pro, is the next iteration of a well reviewed camera/security system. The setup process is simple. The video quality is great. The updated version features rechargeable batteries and 2 way communication in an ultra portable weatherproof form factor. Weatherproof...as low as -10 degrees Celcius - before they shut off. Unfortunately, Canadian winters regularly drop below this threshold - rendering the cameras useless. This is a really great product, but only in the right environment.

Battery Life Not as Expected

I have been happy with the system for except for the batteries. If you are expecting to get the 4-6 months usage (as claimed in many articles), between charges you may be in for a disappointment. My experience is that the batteries need charging every 4-6 DAYS. It seems Arlo considers normal usage to be "about five minutes of recordings a day." I'm sure you could get 4-6 months... if you put the camera in an attic or closet where there is little to no movement. Or perhaps if you new in advance when an "burglary" was going to take place and scheduled the camera to be on at that time. However as a security camera system with someone home most of the time the batteries leave a lot to be desired. Pity. I like most everything else about the Arlo Pro's. I would have given the system 5 stars but the batteries cost the rating 4 stars and I can only give this 1 star. The only way this wireless security camera system would work for me would be to run a wire to each camera... which kind of defeats the point (and expense) of a wireless camera system.

Not for Canadian winters

Good cameras, easy to install, great viewing angles, easy to use app that makes sense. The only negative is they do not work when it's cold outside - the status is that the "your camera needs to warm up before you can use it". Hoping to see an API at some point to tie in my home automation.
