More Information

Security is something we should all be concerned about. Whether you run a small business or have kids at home, you want peace of mind that your home or office is protected when you're not around. The Arlo wireless security system can give you that sense of security, recording what's happening on 4 cameras and allowing you to watch this footage on your mobile device. Check when the kids have come home from school, or survey the office for suspicious activity when you're on vacation. With Arlo, security is simple.

Why you need this:

  • 100% wire-free: Each camera in this Arlo Smart home security system sports a 100% wire-free design, giving you the freedom to set it up pretty much anywhere you want.
  • Easy WiFi connectivity: Arlo cameras work over 802.11n/ac WiFi. All you need to do is connect the base station to your router, sync the cameras, and download the free Arlo app.
  • Create an extensive camera network: This system comes with 4 cameras, and allows you to connect up to 15 cameras to the cloud (additional cameras sold separately). Watch up to 4 cameras at the same time.
  • In the know, on the go: This system gives you the ultimate convenience of securely accessing your footage in real-time from anywhere using the free Arlo app on your smartphone or tablet. You can even rewind and review up to 1GB of free cloud video footage to see if anything out of the ordinary
  • Convenient motion alerts: Arlo cameras have motion activation capabilities. You can program the cameras to monitor certain areas at certain times for any signs of motion and then notify you immediately by email or via the Arlo app if there's any activity.
  • Crisp HD video: The security cameras record content in crystal-clear HD 720p so you can make out every detail when looking over your footage. Whether you're viewing footage of your kids coming home from school or figuring out that commotion in the living room was only your dog bounding around, you'll see everything in sharp high definition.
  • Wide angle: The camera lenses boast a wide angle of 130 degrees to capture more in the frame.
  • Night vision capability: The cameras are equipped with night vision, so they'll work tirelessly day and night to give you the peace of mind you need. Whether it's a dark basement or back deck in the middle of the night, these Arlo cameras have got you covered.
  • All-weather design: The cameras are weatherproof, so feel free to mount them outside to keep an eye on your patio or backyard.
  • Long battery life: This smart home system comes with 16 lithium CR123 photo batteries (4 for each camera) that will keep them going strong for a period of 4 to 6 months. This is great, as you'll benefit from the versatility of wireless cameras without having to frequently change the batteries.

easy set up however

the set up was a very easy process , downloading app was simple, however, the system is not designed for 24-7 video. it only takes small video when motion is triggered, and the subject must be within 15 feet of the front of camera.and yes I had cameras set at 100 percent . will be returning item to store and getting a system with 24-7 video that I can review . this system take batteries and they don't last that long. had system running for two days and battery life has dropped 10 percent already.

Not for Cold Weather

I went through multiple problems with this system. Most problems stemming from cold weather. Problems like connection issues. If you can't connect, there is no security. Other annoying problems are pink camera images, night vision not working and recording starting after the subject has left the image frame. I had enough patience to fix problems first time around but not the second, which occurred again a week later. After consulting NetGear support, (which in itself is an exercise in patience) on multiple issues I finally had enough and returned the system after using it for less than a month. It nice having a system that is wireless but the persistent problems suggest that its just not suitable for Canadian climates or they just haven't perfected it enough prior to releasing it. I for one am tired of companies using consumers as beta testers.

no windows support

disappointed they have no apps for windows, you cant use with a surface tablet or PC they should clearly mark or the packaging does not support windows

Great Product

These cameras work great. I don't understand why some people are complaining. There are several ways to configure the recording process, quality, alerts etc. If you have lousy Wifi or a huge area to cover, ofcourse there will be problems. For a 4500 sq ft home these work great. I have 2 outside, and 2 inside. I live in Vancouver so there's tons of rain and cold temps and no problems with these cameras. I get about 4 - 5 months out of my batteries (use a good brand like duracell or energizer). The cheap batteries willl not last long. Picture quality is excellent. Mounting and installation is a breeze. I would say hardwired cameras are the ideal route, and more inexpensive but most finished homes will not allow for running wires etc. These cameras are the perfect solution.

Slow to respond, poor sensitivity

I bought this for an acreage. I set the sensitivity up to 100% because it was only recording after the person or object had left the frame. That included vehicles. night vision is very poor it only gives you enough quality to see that their is a person there. As far as security it is not very functional. If you use the live function on it there is some opportunity to view the areas the camera is set up but only if the areas has light. I positioned all the cameras outside. They were positioned as far from the house as 150 m away and still have communication with the base station The system took about a 6 hrs to set up and position all the cameras.

Very Happy

I have the Arlo HD pro 2 cam setup and theywork as advertised. For people complaining about lag and such is cause their wifi connection / internet sucks. I dont have this issue that they talk about. They should learn more about internet and wifi setups before blaming it on a product that actually works off their wifi network so its the peoples internet issue not the product!

We're quite pleased

We bought the 4 camera set a few weeks ago. It was easy to set up cameras and our Arlo account. The site is easy to monitor and to search to problem solve. Compared to other brands, this comes with a 7 day free cloud. One of us gets instant notices on cell phone, which is by the bed each night and email notifications are delayed a few seconds. I would rate it a 5 but it's the battery life that is disappointing, with it being new to us, we watch live activity outside the camera sensor range. The videos are easy to save to computer and the reason for our purchase was due to someone driving in and around our area, who shouldn't be here. It has already paid off for us, sharing the videos captured of that person in social media, their activity has slowed down. We had to play with the placements of the cameras and are now set in place. We have bought rechargeable batteries for all 4 cameras and will buy more magnetic mounts to place in other areas of the yard. We also plan on buying silicone skins to make them more discrete and protect from the sun rays reflecting on things making the camera activate. Camera activated when a cat walked past. We are well pleased.

Do NOT buy

Bought this system last summer and here we go just into winter and they do not work in cool temperatures at all. Not meant for areas that get snow that is for sure. Amazed that his was the system that they suggested we buy. What a waste of money!

  • from Abbotsford, BC

Not worth it.

I wanted something to catch potential burglars. This system does not have strong enough motion sensor to pick up people walking unless they are about 10 feet away. With the lag due to wireless, you are lucky if you catch peoples face. I see the letter carrier come up to the house every day, and I only catch a short glimpse. It should turn on as he is comes up the driveway, but doesn't actually turn on until he is at the top of the driveway, just steps from the house. So, if someone walks up to our vehicle the camera won't turn on. Totally bummed, wish I would've bought a wired system and taken the time to install it properly.

Purchased a set of these back in November 2016 after a break-in at our place. Then made the horrible mistake of buying two additional units, which has me at four units plus the station. These are garbage for actual security. The picture is quite clear and they are accessible through the Arlo website which is very user friendly. MAJOR problems however for me are: 1- They only pick up motion after a delay, so when you walk at normal speed past the camera, all you end up seeing is the back side of you. Often all I see in my library is captions of nothing, as they 'kick in' too late. 2- BIGGEST ISSUE I'm currently having is units randomly going 'offline'. I've had this happen four times in the past two weeks, this morning (April 6, 2017) finding three of my four cameras offline. You'll need to remove the unit, take out then replace the batteries. You'll then need to reinstall, balance, and hope the caption is where you want it or do it all again. I have two of these outside my property that require extension ladders to access, so this is a MAJOR pain, not to mention if I do have a break in all I can do is pray that all the cameras are 'online'. 3- Batteries are expensive (4/camera) but they do last 3-4months ONLY if you remember to turn off the cameras when you don't need them, if not expect to replace them every month. Hope this helps, don't want anyone else going through this frustration, having to deal with a extremely poor help centre.

security haha

kinda funny how easy it is to hack into these so called security cameras

Not worth buying the product

I bought it on thanks giving day when it came the battery was completely down on one of the camera. I have to replace all 4 batteries and it cost me 40 bucks. 10 bucks each. After 2 months the batteries on other 2 camera is down it is less than 10% now. Again I have to spend 80 bucks. So with in 2 months I am spending more than 100 bucks. Product is not worth buying and another drawback is that it is cloud support is only for 7 days and more camera we need to buy support at extra cost. Not sure of how to get the recording live on local machine. Once again product is not worth buying it

Works As Advertised

Installed 4 camera system first on April 14, 2016. Added a 5th camera in Sept. Really impressed with sensing response with resulting video which can be viewed on all of my devices so long as I have WiFi. Can set a schedule or arm or disarm with my device from any location where I have WiFi connection. Simply the best product that I have purchased for a long time. Gives me a great deal of confidence in my security.

Best bang for the buck

So we purchased this product last night in exchange we bought a d-link single unit but the cords were a little much to be running over the house and took 3 hours to set it up which was a little frustrating. But this one I had all 4 cameras up and running within 20 minutes of opening the package, it was so easy and the footage that is coming back is so clear. The different modes are awesome to arm or disarm or operate on motion detection with the alerts worked really really quick. The are small so they can be hidden enough or placed in locations where you could make it difficult to have someone steal them. Very impressed with the live view, recordings go to your app - easy to access. This is a great deal and with no cords it is very sleek. I recommend this totally. By the way, I am not super tech savvy but this is so easy to set up.

  • from Markham, ON

Easy setup and great video quality

Setup with extremely easy. I used our existing Netgear R7000 router for the wireless base station instead of using the base station included with this kit. Netgear support was helpful in providing the required firmware update for our R7000 to enable its use with Arlo. The installation of each camera was as easy as: (1) one screw, (2) placing the mount on the screw and (3) placing the camera on the magnetic mount. Video quality was excellent and the 5-8 second lag is on par with other wireless video cameras we have used in the past. Notably, because Arlo syncs with the cloud to provide the video to your app, the slower your internet connection, the higher the lag time. We have Rogers 100MB down/10MB up and it works great. The Arlo app is excellent as well.

Works on motion sensors

Works on motion sensors not continuous recording. The problem with this is there is a lag between when the sensor turns on and the camera records, and thus you only get the top of peoples heads or their backs. Not recommended for outdoor Security! If you don't believe me, check out the arlo community, it is a site for arlo customers, do your research.

  • from Vancouver

Not recommended for outdoor security!

I have to say I was impressed with the price, easy setup and no wiring feature but that soon changed. The problem with the system is that once the motion sensors are triggered the recording doesn't start right away, there is a lag of about 1-2 seconds . This equates to the person not being recorded at all or just getting the top of their heads or backside. I've found others complaining about the same thing on arlos community site, there is one fix and that is to use another camera just for motion that is placed further away and use one camera for just recording but this uses up 2 cameras for one spot? Save your money and time for the new model of arlo cameras, that hopefully have this major glitch fixed.

  • from Port Elgin, ON

Good but could use more optional settings

Could use a setting to allow longer snapshots. Using in a retail store with motion detection on. All images come up at about 9 seconds long so with 4 cameras, generates hundreds of images a day. Would like to be able to set higher, even 1 minute or 5 minutes. Also would have liked to put all but one camera on a schedule and just leave one on motion activated for overnight. Getting the cameras out of the package was a challenge - maybe because done later in the evening but I did not see a screwdriver slot that needed to be held or turned (anything on the package would have helped).

  • from Brampton, ON

Best security camera system on the market for the cost. Batteries last much longer than 4 months if they are on the right setting. Netgear is also moving to indoor hard wired system Arlo Q and Arlo Q plus. All camera systems have weaknesses.

  • from Toronto, ON

Not bad so far

So far everything looks good. ARLO server's performance is pretty good. First two or three seconds got truncated which is ok to me. I like the notification feature (feed pop-up) besides the email notifications. Read reviews before and thus only hope the batteries can last longer (a few months).

arlo security camera

amazing camera's!!!! if you care about protecting your home without any wires this is the product for you. crisp hd 720p image with live view. worth every penny!!!!

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Good, but be sure what you want it for...

While the Arlo security cameras are a good option in many situations, if you are looking for proper security cameras to protect your home and investments, then it falls very short. Thieves and crooks are not stupid and these cameras can be easily outsmarted. 1. they are WiFi. While this may make them easy to install etc for the people too lazy or cheap to run proper PoE camera wiring, it is very easy to take offline. WiFi is inherently unstable and can be interfered with by literally thousands of different devices in /around the home. All a thief has to do is run an interference signal near your home and all your wireless security becomes useless. 2. they are magnetic mounts. This again, makes them easy to install, but all it takes is a well-placed thrown rock to knock it down and take it out. Proper security cameras are supposed to be tamper-proof. These are nowhere near that category. 3. They are battery operated. needless to say it doesn't work properly if you don't constantly make sure they are up-to-par. A proper PoE system with an APC will do much better. Also affected will be the night vision - batteries will not supply enough power for anything other than short range infra red night vision. Again, that's pretty much useless unless you set it up right at your door to catch them as they walk in. 4. They are 720p - this may be okay for indoors where you are closer, but at night outside where most security cameras are the most benefit, and when thieves will be targeting the home, it will fall short. 1080p is the standard and now new 4K cameras are being introduced. 5. It relies on the cloud for recording. Fail, since getting rid of your communications to the home is one of the first things that will be done. It also falls into that category of WiFi interference pretty much makes them useless. Add to this the fact that the internet is an imperfect technology to start with, and the cloud is not dependable as well, and you don't have a system that is very strong in the reliability category. If you want a casual system that can watch for Timmy coming home, or to see what things your cats are tearing up while at the office - possibly even as a novelty "weather cam" you can see while away etc, then go for it - it's perfect for those applications. However, if you want security and a way to protect the things you cherish most, this is probably going to make you wish you invested in the wiring, higher-end cameras, and tamper-proof mounts the first time a critical situation arises.

  • from Richmond, BC

Above average

the arlo camera is definite a recommended product for anyone who wants to install wirelessly esp me which is easy to install yet each single camera needs to put into 4 batteries yet they're not re-chargeable which I dislike about, overall it's fine

  • from Coquitlam, BC

I like this very much

I purchased the Arlo security system because we were victims of a home invasion in 2015. I want to be able to monitor our home when we are out. The notifications to my phone and email alerts are spot on. They arrive within seconds of the cameras being activated. We currently have four cameras around our home. I am planning to add another four to cover additional areas of our home/property. I work from home so when I'm in the office, I arm the front door camera so I know who is there. I've caught the mailman delivering bills almost daily! :-) I have been recommending the Arlo camera system to friends and family. It's easy to setup (my 11 year old actually did all the setup). Only downside is the cost of the batteries. They are fairly expensive to replace. Still cheaper than having a monitored security system and running cables, etc.

  • from London, ON

great but not perfect.

Easiest install and set up I have ever performed! Longest part of the set up was getting the angle of the camera view and that's only because I'm picky. The arlo app set up was simple and quick. There's a few quirks arlo needs to improve on (speed of reporting a trigger takes 5-15mins to send an email and push alerts work "whenever they want." Also the app software will not open up a certain window (mode screen) and I have to log put and in to access it. It's a few lines of code arlo has to look into. Video quality is superb for this type of surveillance system, however - again, it's the lag between the camera being triggered to actual recording (which can take 15-20 sec to get the camera out of standby) in which the person or thing being recorded could have left the scene by the time recording begins. There is a good community blog and an arlo rep is pretty good to address cocerns.

  • from Toronto, ON

After getting our cars broken into on a weekly basis, we installed the camera in under 10 mins overlooking our cars. The camera was able to capture 3 occasions of the thief breaking into our car within 48 hours of the install. I highly recommend this product. We have one at the front door as well and get notifications when someone has been to the door. There are no charges for monitoring or data storage.

Wirlesss home surveillance solution

It's the best wireless home surveillance solution on the market at this time. Love the easy installation and the flexibility of placing them anywhere you want without worrying if there is a power plug nearby. iPhone APP is intuitive and self explanatory, their Cloud can save up to 7 days without charge. Only thing is the cost of the battery could be expensive. Satisfied overall.

Best HW but sw/web system is a joke!!

Got these babies on Boxing Day. HW design is the best on the market currently!!! Not kidding!! However, the sw is the worst!! The web system is not professionally designed and took a long time to figure out where the functions/buttons are. This morning we got motion alerts during our travel but cannot access the cameras on their website. The layout of the website was changed a lot but all the functions and previous settings are gone!!! Very frustrated!!! Cannot see what's going on after getting alerts!!

  • from Toronto, ON

Easy setup. Great system.

So far, so good. The easy setup - both software and hardware - came as quite a surprise. The 720p quality is perfect and the magnetic mount is quite brilliant - just keep hand adjusting until you're happy with the position. The motion sensing is great - there is a couple of seconds delay until the video starts recording but it catches any real threats that you'd want to record (you might miss that squirrel running at high speed across your backyard!). It comes with four cameras and can handle one more for free until Arlo wants to charge you more. Otherwise, it's all free (limit on amount of video you can store in their cloud, but i haven't had any space issues so far).

  • from Edmonton, AB

Great system..

This system works well and the cameras are very clear.

  • from Toronto, ON

very easy to set up

This system offers everything that we wanted; it would be even better if options (e.g. local memory besides clouds, AC source) are made available. The system is pricey.

  • from East Central Alberta

Great System!!!

Out of the box, mounted, account set up, aligned and monitoring in less than an hour. I'd been researching for months prior to purchasing this system. Cameras trigger to record when movement is detected within about 20 feet. Recording time can be adjusted from 10 to 120 seconds each time an event occurs. Sensitivity can also be adjusted to be more or less sensitive to motion. Delay on real time viewing is about 1 to 2 seconds on average. Night vision viewing is very good out to over 40 feet. The mounts are easy to work with. It comes with one hard mount. I bought two additional hard mounts mount 3 fixed cameras outside, and another inside my detached garage. Signal strength inside my garage is full strength, and the garage is 35 feet from the house. I'm not yet sure how the cameras will fair with cold weather operation in the winter, but I am pleased with the results so far. With the cameras on their lowest resolution setting for optimum battery life, the images are still very clear, so I hope to see at least 4 months out of the battery life.

  • from Toronto, ON

Flaw in design is wifi only

Biggest flaw of this product is that it is only support wifi and no local storage. so all the thief need to do is find your cable or phone line and cut it off and no wifi =no cloud = no live view= useless product. 2nd there is a 15s lag time between recording so by the time it start recording the thief is gone from view or enough time to remove the camera from it mounting location. 3rd Batteries for this camera is pretty hard to find and very expensive. it should have a power source option and the battery should be the backup or alternative option as bonus feature.

  • from Kelowna, BC

Very Good, But Not Perfect

There is lots to like with Arlo. Setup is a breeze, as is inviting someone else to be able to watch the recordings it makes or (semi) live feeds. It takes just a few minutes to have the system up and running. I like that you can give meaningful names to the cameras to make it easier to orient yourself as to which view you are seeing. On the down side, though, the motion sensor is slow to trigger, and many of my recordings take place while the subject is more than half way across the field of view. We wanted to be able to monitor activity at our front door, but the feed is not live; there is a noticeable delay in when you see what is happening. It can be a bit fussy to find a spot to mount the camera that will get the recordings you want. I was annoyed to discover that someone had approached my front door and taped a message to it, yet the camera did not trigger from the motion and therefore there was no recording to see who it was. The final verdict? The benefits outweigh the downsides. A few more tweaks would make it nearly perfect. Hopefully that can be accomplished in future software upgrades.

  • from Fort Mcmurray, AB

Great system

Got the system home at 5:00 pm, 5:30 all four cameras were installed and the base was up and running! Video is very clear and crisp, night vision is also excellent. The magnetic cameras are a breeze to set up, I moved one inside the house by simply sticking it on the fridge, then moved it to the metal spindles on the stairs. I have cameras outside as well, positioned one on the base of my bbq, moving it to its final position by simply letting the magnets do its job. I plan on getting another camera as you are able to run 5 cameras using the app at no charge. The app was very easy to find in the App store and is very easy to navigate. Very very happy with it!!!

  • from Nanoose Bay

Fantastic product - Highly recommend

After spending considerable time and effort with my alarm company (think 3 letter name) trying to add video monitoring to my Pulse home automation & security system and being told i would need an electrician to wire outlets for each camera, then buy security covers for the electrical outlets to ensure they were not simply unplugged, and on and on I gave up and thought to hell with it. I then saw these on the Bestbuy website, did a bit of research, not much but sales info available, but took a chance. Setup is very fast, less than 5 minutes to have the system set up, the first camera running and connected, and setup my Arlo on-line account. Within half and hour the full system was set up with the cameras all mounted around the outside of the house and everything fully operational. The cameras are compact, appear very well made, the magnetic mounts are handy and well designed. Picture quality is first rate both in daylight and infrared for night. I have placed one of the cameras greater than 100' (outside) from the base station with no lose of signal strength. The standard Arlo account is free and supports up to 5 cameras with 1 week of on-line storage. Plenty for my needs. Having had this for a week now I can't think of anything lacking in the system. Highly recommend.
