Great Monitor for Gaming and Entertainment

I have used this 1080p monitor for more than two years and it's still working very well. Its big size is great for gaming and videos. I like the Flicker-Free and Low Blue Light technologies because my eyes feel comfortable and don't get tired often when I keep the blue light filter at level 3. I highly recommend this monitor especially when you can get it on sale.

Amazing Monitor/Incorrect Sales Advice

Yesterday I purchased an ASUS VP278H-P monitor. The sales assistant assured me that the display was actually LED technology i.e. not an LCD panel and that the unit did not have built-in speakers. He was wrong on both of those details. The monitor does have built-in speakers and the display panel itself is actually Liquid Crystal. But let me say this: The sound is good and the display is amazing. Please correct your sales information/staff about the information on this. Thank you..

Crappy speakers

I was specifically looking for a monitor with built-in speakers so I could ditch my old speakers, free up some desk space, and reduce the number of cables. Unfortunately this monitor's built-in speakers are terrible, very tinny with no bass -- definitely not the "full sound" promised in the manufacturer's blurb. I don't expect great audio nor heavy bass, just sound comparable to low-end external speakers or the typical low-end TV. My old external speakers are cheap ones and just 1W per speaker, but they're much better than the 2W speakers in this monitor. It also follows the current stupid fad of placing the controls out of sight, which is terrible ergonomics because you have to waste time feeling around for the right button. Functionality should not be sacrificed for the sake of a "clean look". Picture quality seemed good, but I didn't spend much time evaluating it or the other features since the crappy audio is an instant-fail in my books. If I can't find a monitor with *good* built-in speakers, I might as well save some money by getting one without speakers.

Not bad, couldbe better

I bought this monitor during boxing day sale strictly for gaming purposes. I decided to make the transition from TV to monitor as I've heard plenty of pros for crossing over. Having had this monitor for a few months, the biggest issue would be the automatic light adjustment. It interferes with my gaming and is quite annoying as there is no way to turn it off. Will be looking for a new monitor real soon.

how can a gaming monitor have 60hz refresh rate?

screen tearing all over the place, not for games for sure.

  • from Toronto, ON

Pretty good, not great

Pros: - Good color and bright once calibrated - Easy to install - 3.5mm audio input (if you want to use it) - Wall mountable Cons: - Speakers are really bad (sounds like speakers on a cheap laptop) and volume control is burried in menu options (can be moved to a shortcut) - No 3.5mm audio output - Lack of true quick select menu options, so even changing inputs requires minimum 4 buttons - Bad base (mine was tilted somehow, used bunched up paper to fix) Overall pretty satisfied but I was annoyed at the lack of 3.5mm output to bypass the bad speakers. I'd recommend this monitor to pretty much anyone so long as they don't require it for audio purposes.

Good monitor

I just picked this monitor (Asus VP278H-P) up today as it was on sale. First off, this is a 60 Hz refresh rate monitor. For those of you high end PC gamers, this monitor does not support G-Sync (nVidia) or FreeSync (AMD). I leave it to you to decide if this is a deal breaker or not. I have an older PC and a couple consoles, and it works great with no noticeable tearing or ghosting thus far. The colors, brightness, etc. look great. The speakers are mediocre at best, which is typical for a monitor. As for inputs/outputs, it has a one power, two HDMI, one D-Sub (15 pin VGA), and one 3.5 mm audio in. No DVI, Display port, or USB ports. The button controls are a bit weird, and I wish they had dedicated volume keys. Overall, my first impressions are good. I like it.

Loved My First, Getting 2 More!

Hey everyone, I bought this Asus Monitor in the summer and to this day I love it. Everything about it is just awesome. I use it for Twitch Streaming, Video Editing, Graphic Design, Web Design, and all sorts of media. It hasn't let me down! I will note that people on here mention that the volume is hard to get to. To me that is quite sad, how hard is it to push a few buttons? That's not much to complain about especially since I use high end headphones and most gamer's and people who work on computers do. ALSO lets say you don't use headphones, wouldn't you use speakers? WHO USES THE MONITORS SPEAKERS?! LOL KEEP IT UP ASUS (and BestBuy)!

too much menus and faulty

1) this monitor has approx. 6 menus, containing 5-6 submenus with 3-4 sub-sub-menus each. WAAAAYYY too much menus and features and no user's manual in the box, only online. 2) the colors aren't really poppin out like I was expecting even with the best mods. 3) The one I bought was faulty. even thought everything was plugged right and all my drivers were updated and setted up, I still had horizontal lines appearing whenever I entered dark rooms or coming close of dark shades. 4) one of the features I liked, is the fact that you could add a permanent target in your screen, wich is great if you play games with snipers for no-scoping. Well, the target is NOT centered in the screen so it's a useless feature, very disappointing. Overall, I am NOT recommending this product at all.

Lacking in picture quality

This monitor has almost no pros and a long list of cons. Short version: It might be fine for games, but such wild unrealistic colors on every setting and harsh contrast make photographs look noticeably worse than other monitors and TVs. I compared it to 3 other screens side by side when testing. Biggest issues: -No volume button. By default it's buried in the menus. A shortcut can be made, but it's still 3 buttons just to adjust it. -Brightness and Contrast settings only, no cell/back light. If your room varies in light levels like mine you're completely out of luck. -Screen is harshly bright for webpages (all white backgrounds). If you lower the settings it will be too dark to see in dark areas of a game. Struggles with black and white levels. Worse than any monitor or TV I've owned. Other issues: -Very low quality speakers. I sat my cell phone and Wii U gamepad by the monitor. They sounded about the same. Very weak. Like a clock radio. Specs say 2 watts only, so that's probably why. -No headphone connection, only a 3.5mm audio in. So not very good for consoles. -Super strong red, blue and greens. Bright, but unnatural. Bad for photographs, interesting for games though. -Viewing angle is limited. A foot to the left or right and contrast is gone. -Many game "enhancing" modes I found no use for. I spent a good 2+ hours trying all the modes and adjusting the colors. They still had either a strong color cast to the whole image, or they were very wrong compared to other screens I placed beside it. I could not get the contrast to a usable level. I tried and tried, and used calibration images. So this is one of the only monitors I've ended up returning. Faster response times aren't worth low quality video. It doesn't compare to any other screen I've purchased before.

Good budget monitor for color sensitive work

I bought this monitor for photo editing and gaming based on its supposed ability to display 72% of the NTSC color gamut which equals out to roughly 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It has a built in sRGB profile which I then calibrated the colors through NVIDIA and it seems pretty good. Shame it isn't spot on but it is likely my laptops default profile is set to try and correct its own screens blue tint, so I cannot fault the monitor for that. I like the blue light filter, the screen refreshes fast and clearly and picture quality is great.

3x Monitors for Digital Design

I have 3 of these monitors for doing 3D and 2D artwork. They are simply amazing. No dead pixels out of the box, enough connection ports for my PC, and very easy to adjust the screen color and temp so they are are dead on the same. The monitors also come with a ton of easy to use features for adjusting the picture for your environment, dark room, sunny room and so on. I also tried them set to one long screen for gaming and was blown away by the detail. My only problem with these screens is the volume adjustment. if you are going to hock up a game console or anything and use the built in speakers, the volume up and down is a pain to get to.

Two monitors and both screens turn black every minute !!

Good monitors, but unstable electronic. Purchased both in November 2015, exchanged one at the beginning and now the second.

Nice Monitor

I bought this monitor recently on sale. It works well, has good picture quality, and is easy on the eyes. Good monitor for gaming. No complaints whatsoever.

  • from London, ON

Good but...

I purchased this monitor on boxing day for around [price], not bad for the price. Smooth with 1ms response, sharp quality, huge screen. Only this I don't really like is how sometimes when I turn mine on, it will turn off and turn back on again, I've had it happen a couple times turning off once, and plenty turning back off twice. Can get annoying but other than that, a great monitor.

Great monitor

Nice size monitor and the settings are easy enough to toggle between depending on your needs. Picture is very sharp and setting it up was very easy. Been using it for a while and no problems at all. I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a monitor that is worth the price. (Get it on sale and it's even better!)

Best Monitor Ever

The monitor worked perfectly out of the box. The image is crisp and responsive. The only reason for not giving it a 5 star was that the speakers were not has good as I had hoped for,

Shipping Problem/Otherwise Good!

I had this monitor shipped to the store, we picked it up, and bring it home. I saw a "dent" in the box and hoped the monitor was not broken/still working. I saw a "ding" in the monitor and then said "oh no.." Plugged it in to our gaming computer, started it up and the monitor had rainbow pixels all over the screen. We returned it to our local Best Buy and they just got more in stock! We got a new one, returned home and plugged it in, and it works great! Thanks for easy returning, Best Buy!

Great monitor (4.3 Stars)

It's just been about eight hours since I got this monitor at a great discount. So far I like it. My main usages are to be for console gaming and movies. Pros: 1. Excellent response time for gaming. (connected to Xbox 360) 2. Great size for a medium sized room. The best viewing distance is about two meters. Viewing angles are good but could be better. 3. Colors are vibrant. 4. Scenery mode is great for viewing pictures. Cons: 1. The picture quality could be sharper. 2. Tedious control options. 3. A little strain on the eyes. (possibly fixed by calibration.)
