Screen Issues

I have now owned two of these laptops, and I am about to return the second. The actual machine is a great machine, but the screen is terrible. In both laptops there is an issue when there is a black or dark background in games, movies, you name it. There is a yellow tint in some areas near the edge of the screen and for the price of this laptop it is an unacceptable defect. I have had store representatives tell me they don't see it (although I see it in the in-store models and other ROG laptops when I change the backgrounds to plain black). I have had ASUS support tell me it is not a known issue and it comes down to "customer taste" (as if quality is that subjective). Yet when you look online for ROG laptop problems with screen bleed or pressure issues, this problem does appear to be known to customers. I am almost tempted to say victims. For ASUS to claim they are a leading company and to have such a basic screen flaw with such expensive devices just boggles the mind completely. I am going to give it one more chance after I return this laptop to try to purchase one with a screen that functions normally. If I get the problem a third time, I will be walking away from ASUS completely. I advise you to seriously consider not purchasing an ROG laptop and if you do, make sure you check the screen right away.

Fast but having trouble with it

I've had that computer for 4 days now, updated the drivers to the latest version and I was very happy with it until it started crashing while playing a game. It simply reboots the system. Fun thing is, it did that 3 times at exactly the same spot in my game, it doesnt seem to be heat related. Now of course I have to browse lots of support forum to solve that, if that is solvable.

Bang for the Buck

Upgraded to a higher performance gaming laptop from a previous generations MSI. The GTX1070 in this model is a work horse. Two cooling fans running at full speed, keep my computer cool-ish for most demanding games. Doom, H1Z1, Call of Duty III, Skyrim special Edition - all max setting, max performance. No lag, one moment. Don't regret this decision for a moment. An English keyboard would have been appreciated, but in Ontario, all our keyboard are french.

Good but one flaw (WHY SELL FRENCH VER)

If the model was US version I would give 5 star. I bought this about a week ago, Everything is perfect...except one... Since Canada is bilingual (even though ON is not French main) they sold me a french version..... (meaning keyboard was totally different, smaller shift key, different enter design, extra french accent key options) these made my keyboard ugly and uncomfortable... I had extra '\' key where long left shift is... (mine is a small left shift version...) and unlike most of enter key you would see it on other laptops the enter key took the original '\' key spot and the '\' went one position down..... although I use separate gaming keyboard at home, but when I'm not at home this made it super uncomfortable... I wish they just sold the US version like CanadaComputers I could've got the ENG version... but they were all sold out and I needed immediately...

Excellent Gaming Laptop

This is an excellent machine for gaming. The laptop is light considering how much performance is packed into it. The main trade-off of light weightiness is the heat (as mentioned by other reviewers). It will consistently run hot while playing games, so it requires proper cooling to keep temperatures in check. Other than heat issues no complaints so far.

Awesome all around

My Sony laptop was on the end of its life so I decided to purchase this laptop. I reviewed most high end companies I trusted. I had an Asus for a few years as my desktop so I trusted the company. After set up it ran perfectly. Most of issues were caused by myself. There is a small issue with the screen flashing when waking up out of sleep mode. I have tested and determined this is due to the HDMI Cable running to my second monitor (which is really an TV). Other than this almost all games run without issues. Even games which have known PC issues at the time were able to function. The only ones that created an issue were games that were unstable. I love how the HDMI ports are placed and the easy access of the system. Having the ability to change settings at ease is a joy to use. The Keyboard can be a bit annoying at first as you cannot always have it lit up. However, it will do so as soon as you move the mouse or press a key. I highly recommend downloading the manual from the website. Many things are not up front with this computer. Things like making the Num pad work took me a few pages to read. I do like how they have these abilities just not up front if not needed. Most major functions can be performed at any time. Other than these its extremely easy and friendly to use. I advise people if unsure to reach out to someone to set it up.

This laptop is absolutely amazing! The performance inside is great, the cooling system keeps the parts cool, and it's also quite quiet! It took me awhile to figure out certain features, such as changing the keyboard back lighting, but other than that, I love this gaming laptop! Pros: -Great performance -Ample cooling -Mainly quiet -Great price -Awesome keyboard and track pad -Screen is spectacular -Built in gaming software allows for even more in depth tweaking -I/O is great since it features newer ports like USB Type C with Thunderbolt 3 Cons: -Software bug with ROG Gaming Center that makes it crash when the computer is working hard (ex.gaming). However, it does work when the laptop is cool and isn't under that big of a load. Most likely will be fixed in an upcoming patch. -Power brick squeals when it has been charging the laptop for a while -A fair amount of bloatware initially. I removed it all except for Asus' gaming software -No instructions as to how you turn up/down the keyboard lighting -The keyboard layout has been changed slightly due to Asus wanting a dedicated ROG Gaming Center shortcut Honestly, overall this laptop is amazing. The performance is out of this world and the price it's at is quite reasonable. The pros heavily outweigh the cons since the cons are just minor things that aren't that bad. I would recommend this laptop any day, 100%.

What a dissapointment.

I was totally disapointed with this computer - the specifications look great... but the actual use of this machine left a lot to be desired. The computer was purchased for graphics work - as a gaming machine it may be acceptable but not for graphics and design.

Highly Recommend

Awesome performance with a GTX1070 graphic card. Good experience with 17-inch G-SYNC screen. Btw a little bit hot feeling over keyboard surface while playing typical large 3d games

Thermals sacrificed for form factor

Having owned an older ASUS ROG laptop for 3 years (i7 4700HQ w/ GTX 770M) and no issues with it whatsoever, I figured now would be a good time to upgrade to the latest generation as the 770M can no longer handle current lineup of games. This machine looks very appealing and thin, however I was immediately concerned about the small heat exhausts at the back, for the gear that it packed inside I figured there's no way the thermals would hold up, and my fears were confirmed almost immediately with just playing a few not really taxing games, 20 minutes of StarCraft 2 at 1080p just High settings and the CPU was hitting 96C and GPU 90C, this is with a Thermaltake cooling pad blowing at max turbo fan speeds as well. At this level of thermal performance, I just don't believe this laptop can really survive for nearly as long as I had hoped. Multiple forums have reported undervolting the CPU and GPU results in 10~15 C improvement, but in my view having to underclock defeats the point of buying a high-end laptop designed to game. Looks to me ASUS just went too much for the thinness and didn't do as good a job at dissipating heat.

Totally dissappointed in this machine

First: I have to try 4-5 times to get the machine to boot up every day. Press power it starts and crashes out. Getting it too come out of hibernation is about the same. Second: It sounds like you are in a tin can - no depth or bass nor any adjustment to improve the lacklustre sound. Definitely not worth the money. I thought I would try Asus - wrong choice it seems they have had the start up (power) problem for many, many years and have not bothered to fix it.
