Terrible experience

It is very stressful experience. Win10 keeps HDD busy 100% at least 30 minutes after logon. During this time laptop is frozen. You can do nothing. It is with new empty laptop. That also happens periodically. System updates something and takes HDD busy at 100%. I installed Ubuntuat this laptop, but it doesn't support wifi adapter. wfif connection keeps failing after certain time after logon. I would never buy it again. Unfortunately, I didn't return it in allowable return time and now I have to adapt myself to this disaster....

Good with fresh windows install

After reading the reviews I was worried about the noise. Once I install a fresh windows 10. It worked great, no excessive noise!

  • from Winnipeg, MB

It workes just fine pulged in, but not on batery

The laptop was really good, fast to turn on and it had a really god performance. Unfortunately, for some reason, it did not work whenever the charger was removed. It just shuts down. I just returned it...

Not The Best But Does The Job

Great Laptop When It Comes To The Price !

  • from Gatineau, QC

Not good

I just got it and i'M bringing it back tomorow. It's very noisy and slow to set up and function.

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Don't recommend it

The spec is not bad the problem is the HDD is so slow and loud. I got it for brand new and it runs slow like its an old laptop.

  • from North Vancouver

Simply a TRASH

They should add " zero" to rating. 0 out of 100. OMG!!! This computer made my crazy in just one day. Glitchy, Noisy fan that I could hear it from the kitchen. God damn slow. I was getting crazy waiting to open just one application. I returned it and I got another one. The same problem even another problem came up,getting error messages when I wanted to open some applications like Netflix. In 2 days I got rid of them. My old computer TOSHIBA's performance is 10 out of 10 comparing with this horrible computer. I've never seen such a thing.

I have an old Toshiba computer. It is faster and better than this computer. I bought this computer. Very slow! I returned and got the new one and the same problem. I got back my money. I don't recommend it.

  • from Montreal, QC

Very Slow :(

I had a very bad experience with this laptop. I did not imagine that Asus can produce such a bad product. All that I can do is to watch the No response message and to wait... Definitely not recommending this one.

Used twice, died.Had it 24 days and the dance began.Won't be going back to Bestbuy.Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Wanted to love it, or at least be able to live with it.

I bought this lab top despite some bad reviews, because the specs were just what I wanted. The fan is very laud, but I could have lived with that. The computer was slightly slower than the cheaper asus I had had before, but I still would have kept it. Noticed that the wifi comes in and out as mentioned in other reviews, that was kind of scary. However after 15 days, the computer just stopped turning on at all. This line of computers are lemons, choose a different one.

  • from Winnipeg

This will be the second one that I have returned. Speakers don't work it's noisy and haf blue screen of death. The first one kept shutting off reboot crash. I guess I got two lemons. Not good buy even said they have had people return them because of problems like these ones

I like it

Work fine and do what I want: photo, music and current work. No trouble to install others softwares. cons: no dvd drive.

  • from Riverview, NB

loud laptop

this laptop is loud. the fan is always on. it is a common problem. I open a browser and once the ACPI sensor goes over 30 celsius the fan maxes out. cant control it with software or in bios

  • from Toronto, ON

Does what it should

I have no complaints. The fan is noisy, thus 4 stars. However, speed and function are great. Waking it up this morning took less than 20 seconds and I was loading this webpage to leave my review. For the price point, an illuminated keyboard would be nice.

  • from Calgary, AB

Great laptop

I got this when it was on sale. 599. Out of the box there were a lot of problems, the harddrive failed. After upgrading to 16 gb ram and SSD this thing is fast and good

  • from Langley, BC

very happy!

happy with this notebook. it loads fast and looks great.

  • from Truro, NS

If I could give 0 stars I would

laptop is lightweight which is about the only positive thing going for it. Turned it on and had not installed any programs, had nothing running and it had 100% disc usage. We tried several things to figure out why, but nothing helped. The laptop is super loud and slow because the hard drive is working very hard for no reason, Will be returning this! Very disappointed.

Pick Another Laptop

Had to return it after it crashed 3 times in 4 days.

  • from Toronto, ON

Disappointing Experience

I bought this laptop on the recommendation of our of the bestbuy agents in store, fan was running at max capacity right away (pretty loud), apps take a good 2 minutes to simply launch (browsers, file explorer, ...), poor display. Returning the unit while I can.

To much bloat to be good

Spec wise this is a good laptop, you would think it would operate decent as well. But when you get it home and power it on it is the worst first impression I have ever gotten from a laptop. Asus should be ashamed to ship out such a poorly tuned machine. But in the end I eventually got it working to the point were I think it works well enough to keep. My steps are as follows 1) Get online and start checking for updates. It will take a couple of days (20 hours if you are waiting for it) to get all the microsoft updates installed. This is my first beef with asus, they should provide an updated image on their website to rebuild the laptop with the latest OS. But no, you need to install 2 (or 3) cumulative updates which take 4-6 hours to run - these run on boot so you cannot do anything but wait... Every reboot keep running check for updates until windows doesn't find anything new. Dont forget that after every update that requires a reboot there is a module installation process that takes place, this will slow your laptop down to a crawl as well. Open up task manager and wait till the disk usage is less then 10%. Now proceed to step 2. (At this point the reboot time will take 2:30 and login another 1:00) 2) My second beef with asus, the pre installed bloat kills the laptop as well. Remove everything that isn't microsoft or asus. Then remove the asus free gifts software too, it is a resource hog as well. Reboot 3) Tune windows, turn off windows indexing, and turn off windows superfetch. Both of those are resource hogs that dont provide much benefit. There are other tuning you can do but those are the only ones I did. Now the laptop boots in under 30 seconds.

I am extremely disappointed with the performance and quality (or lack there of) that this computer offers. Not to mention, I am very annoyed with the fact that the salesman told me it was his best seller and no one has ever complained about this computer. (I should have checked online, seems I am not the only unhappy buyer). It seemed much more sturdy in the store, and he said I would not regret getting this computer. WRONG! The moment I booted it for the first time I was completely in shock to hear how LOUD the fan is. I can hear it from the other room, no exaggeration. The computer feels cheap, (actually, it feels empty when I type) and it is SUPER slow. The moment it is running more than one application (Excel and internet) it doesn't even register what I type because it lags so much. I'm returning this and warning you NOT to buy this computer. It's really not worth the money.

  • from Ajax

Follow the reviews

Out of the box, won't stop beeping and runs far slower than any i5 should ever run. Don't try and save money: any other laptop beats this hands down. Returned it the next day.

zero out of 5

Have a lot of experience on computers . Ive owned this laptop for 5 months & its already done it wont turn on at all for no reason out of nowhere. Tried resetting the battery myself & still nothing. Total waste of money. Never second guess yourself & instincts. In that first 30 days I was blaming Windows 10 updates..meanwhile, it was the unit. I have 7+ year old netbooks, that run 24 hours for a security camera, & they have never had a issue very disappointed . I replaced myself with a Refurbished laptop & it worked super fast, right off the bat with Windows 10 & during updates. Clearly their is some kind of flaw in this considering all the reviews are someones awful experience. Wish I would have returned when I could of.

  • from Ottawa, ON

Just plain horrible - One star is still too much!

Took forever to install it then it would take between 5-6 minutes to boot. Then if I'd click on restart, omg, I'd have time to have dinner. Just plain awful. Don't buy this.

  • from woodbridge, ON

great computer

This is one of the best computers i have ever bought its really fast and has a good battery i have had for almost 3 months now and don't regret buying it for a minute a really good laptop

  • from Kitchener, ON

Bought it this afternoon, returning it tomorrow morning

So I thought 'how bad could it be'? Answer: Glitchy and slow. When you combine that with a really poor quality keyboard, this thing is a real dog. As a benchmark, my four year old two hundred dollar HP chromebook runs faster than this thing. Don't waste your time.

  • from Toronto, ON

Worst PC ever

I bought this laptop april 28, 2017 from best buy, and now two days later. I am definitely returning it back. It's super slow, I ended up doing my tasks for my weekend on my Samsung Tab E instead. It's useless and waste of my time. My 5 yr old Lenovo i3 4GB laptop is 100 x better. Huge disappointment after the Best buy representative turned me to this one over another unit just because it is an ASUS and about how ASUS makes their own part as opposed to outsourcing them (not sure what he's talking about). Image display is just horrible. I'd

good experience

As an IT person, this a great buy. I have my doubts on the previous comments. Once windows updated and I uninstalled all the adware and several antivirus trials the laptop is much faster to boot. The only hard drive noise I heard was a 194GB transfer from my USB external disk. best feature keyboard typing feel.

Asus Vivo Book

No problems so far. Like large clear screen and quick response

  • from North Bay, ON

good machine

no problem so far works like a charm

  • from Scarborough, ON

Average Quality

The laptop gave me lots of problems for the first 10-15 days. After that, I deleted many of the software and customized it a bit. It started to work well. As soon as you purchase this laptop, get rid of some of the already installed software. Most of these are junk software and these may give you problems. Also, I advice to uninstall Mcafee. My laptop started to work better once I deleted it.

  • from Stratford

First time booting it up with a computer technician and it crashed. Did not install a thing yet and it still remains at 99% disk being used, with seemly no reason. Definitely, would not recommend. Feels like and cheap, expected better from ASUS.

  • from Calgary, AB

Bad laptop

Worst laptop I've ever purchased, I thought Asus was a good brand but I guess not. Its slow af. Pretty much the laptop was bad once I turn it on, it was updating and I had to hold the power button at least 10+ times to turn it off because it froze. DO NOT BUY this.

  • from Duncan, BC

i bought this laptop for myself the first one I got started to make a rattling noise in the sound bar I thought it might go away by its self it didn't then the laptop would turn on and show the asus logo and wouldn't go past it I took the laptop back they replaced it for me and now the second laptop is doing the exact same thing it has the rattling noise still starts up just fine but will be taking this laptop back to get a refund and most like a different laptop other then this one would recommend opening it in the store and checking for the rattling noise.

  • from Toronto

Terrible product

Computer was surprisingly slow. Hard drive failed in the first week.

  • from Woodbridge, ON

HDD and fan are loud

I'm not sure if this is a problem with just the unit that I got, but the hard drive is VERY loud. As soon as it booted, the distinct clicking noise of the hard drive was very audible. The fan is noisy as well, so it makes me think of how much more noisy it will be when older. The laptop looks really great in the photo, but I didn't like the way it felt. The casing feels cheap and plastic, even hollow in some parts. The trackpad isn't very responsive and also has a strange, hollow plastic feel. The keyboard is okay, but there is a lot of space between keys which I didn't like much either. Overall, not a great experience, but what really did it in was the noise of the hard drive. I will be returning it.
