Oops accidentally just reviewed the same model with a slightly different processor. This is the correct model to review! SAVE YOUR MONEY!! My daughter bought this a month ago, and it seemed to be working well. Until three weeks later when it started rebooting often and saying "repairing disk drive". Also kept dropping the wireless printer signal, had to keep reinstalling the printer driver. Seemed very cheaply made. We returned it 3 weeks after purchase. The sales associate told me that they get a lot of returns on these machines, pretty much anything in the Asus X series, stay away from. Buy something with an SSD and invest in something that will last!

Good laptop

I like this laptop. It is much faster than a machine I had of similar speed. It is good for having several windows open and doing multiple tasks at same time.

2 days and i want to return it

not too bad of a computer in terms of specs, except the hard drive is by far the weakest part of this computer. takes forever to load up from off or sleep mode. when i turned on the computer for the first time it took about 3 hours to install all the updates and load everything. some parts of the installation there were errors saying "windows is not responding, wait for program to respond or close". yup so i know why this thing was on clearance. had it freeze on me 2 times the last 2 days. which is completely restarts when it does, and that takes ages. wouldn't be so bad if it had an SSD and it booted up fast. not too sure if its the weak hard drive or just windows 10 because the last time i bought a laptop for casual web surfing was with windows 7, and it was a lot weaker in specs because this was back in 2010.....never froze though. other than that, its fast enough to do everything i want, had all the features and ports i would use, but i'm very disappointed with it freezing already.

I just got into the truck driving industry and cannot take my gaming desktop on the road with me.I decided i was in the market for a laptop.. going from a built gaming pc i chose this laptop because of the promising specs. i had no intention of gaming on it but i like the idea of a laptop with a little power. this laptop was super slow from the get go. i had it on long enough to download chrome and the next day the laptop wouldnt boot up because the hard drive died.. i got my money back and have yet to decide what to buy next

severely bottlenecked

All the hardware spec looked very promising at this price point. However, as soon as the laptop was booted, it becomes very obvious that this computer is extremely slow in just about anything... The problem is with the hard drive. I was using USB 3.0 for transferring files, and the peak transfer was about 35MB/s. That is on the slow side of modern HDD nowadays. I can't believe ASUS paired such a slow HDD with a high spec Intel i7 processor and 8GB of SODIMM DDR4 RAM... Stay away from this laptop. If you really must, buy the lower spec Vivobook because the slow HDD is a terrible bottleneck. You would be wasting money on the i7 and dedicated graphics card when your HDD is this slow.

ASUS VivoBook

On the positive side, love that this laptop is light. Overall, however, we are really disappointed with it and will be returning it right away. The connection where the power cord plugs into the laptop for charging is loose. To illustrate how loose the connection is, we found that simply picking up the laptop from the table with the power cord plugged in results in messaging that it is flickering back and forth from on battery to plugged in. We are not overly impressed with the speed either despite the decent specs. Unfortunately, it should also be noted that it has a cheaper feel to it. Wish this were not the case. :(
