I Purchased another ASUS a couple of years ago and really liked it a lot so when the screen cracked and I really did not know why, I decided to purchase another ASUS and so far it is working good, however, do not like Windows10. When I read other reviews, really did not like what I read and now am second guessing myself as to whether it was a good purchase or not. Maybe I should have purchased another brand. Sure hope this one lasts more than 3 years

I've bought this Laptop back in January and sold my old one. In my opinion this laptop is decent (way better than my other one). It does have it's own issues though, randomly restarts, sound issues etc... But I manage to game with it decently. I can run almost any game on steam. Maybe you all just got bad luck. But until I get my new PC for gaming I'll put up with this one, it isn't all that bad :)

I have had this laptop for 6 months now and is working great ! I use it for everyday use and video editing (PremierPro CC 2017) works great. If you cant afford an Apple product for editing or school work, this is a great laptop for both students and producers. All in all this laptop is great and is worth every penny.

Not bad at all!!

So far I am enjoying my ASUS X-SERIES 15.6" LAPTOP BLACK because of its CD PLAYER FEATURE. Most laptop brands do NOT offer CD player feature anymore. This particular model is user-friendly, lots of storage, not very heavy, and the PRICE IS RIGHT. THE ONLY NEGATIVE FEATURE OF THIS LAPTOP IS: NO LIGHT FOR THE CAPS LOCK KEY. For me, it is a very important feature that the company should have installed for easy use of the CAPS LOCK KEY.

Not a Good Model

Bought this computer less than a year ago, use it for personal and business, it's performance is not bad. The product is not covered by Asus' ADP warranty protection that is standard on most ASUS products, trust me I've spent a 4 days on the phone with about 8 people trying to sort it out. They admit that the hinge is a known issue. You pick this computer up and you feel the whole case torque and twist under its own weight. Technician said the mother board, small board, LCD screen, Hard drive and case hinge all needed replacing. Inside of one year.

Pure Garbage

Less than 24 hours after purchasing this it has stopped working. It won't boot past the Asus screen, and it won't read a boot disc. Don't be fooled by some of the specs, this thing is a pile of crap.

Good buy

Really pleased with this laptop. the touch pad is rather sensitive making it unpredictable. however this can be adjusted by reducing the sensitivity from the settings. The only real negative is there is no indication that caps is on or the number pad is activated, this can screw you up when entering a password. Overall a great buy.

Lousy Battery Life

This is my first Asus product and I wont be buying another one. The computer itself is ok. Performance is not blazing fast, and the speakers are not very loud, even on max. Worst of all is the battery life. I purchased it for Christmas 2016, and I'm down to one hour of life before having to plug in. Pathetic.

Sad excuse for a laptop

Was forced to buy this cuz my old one died (was able to fix it once i got online with Asus' customer service) Thought it'll be a decent laptop cuz of the specs, it's TWICE AS SLOW than my old ASUS X551C, which got 6G Ram, 750G HD and Intel 2117U chipset, not to mention the battery won't even last longer than 2 hours! Such a waste of money, and now I'm stuck with it, having it sitting at the corner while I'm still using my old laptop, would've give it 0 Star if possible...

The salesman was great playing this computer up the other day when we were in store, so we bought it. When we got home I unpacked and updated the firmware... Then nothing. Rebooted... Still nothing. Went back to the store and found out there was a firmware issue with this model and 6 had been returned in the past week. Are you kidding me? Absolute joke. Not once was this mentioned by the salesman. So I returned it and left. Will avoid buying from Beat Buy in the future.

Solid laptop once you work the bugs out

Bought this a couple of months ago and I use it for everything from web browsing and word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and photo editing (Photoshop). I also use it to plug into my TV to watch movies via HDMI. Battery life is OK at about 3 hours. The keyboard is solid and I like the layout. The touchpad can be a real pain in the butt, especially at first. The left and right mouseclick buttons are part of the touchpad itself, so I find that when I try to click, I am often also dragging somewhat, which can get very frustrating. Over time I find I am better at using the touchpad, but for the most part I use a wireless mouse. The first step with this laptop is to remove pretty much all of the pre-installed software that comes with it. There is also an issue with the AMD video driver that Windows Update installs which causes errors and video issues. You need find the proper driver on the AMD website and use it instead, in order to fix this issue. I have also customized Windows to work more like Windows 7, but that is a preference thing for me. All in all once the laptop is set up and the kinks are worked out, it's been a solid, reliable, and powerful laptop for me.

Nice laptop/but not that impressive

Bought this unit last December 2016.. I just send money to my cousin in Canada to buy this for me since this bit far from ph. ... Everything is good and working well.... but there are some issues I found as follows: battery life is low touch pad is not user friendly and there is no backlit display.. but nevertheless i love it as i i love the price

Gets the job done

If you have high expectations, buy a more expensive laptop. The laptop works good, but the touch pad doesn't always cooperate. Battery life seems pretty short. For reasons I don't know, sometimes my apps work, sometimes they don't. I have to reset to make them work...sometimes. Kind of frustrating, but for what I need this for, it does the job.

  • from Regina, SK

This is a great laptop it's fast its nice but there's no removable battery. The battery power only lasts me 2 and a half hours tops and I just got it two weeks ago. I can't return it now sadly so if you are okay with the battery situation then get this laptop It's good for being fast and reliable but sucks not being able to take out the battery when I am at home.

Don't buy worst computer ever

First day when I picked up this computer all the sales associates were hurrying me at best buy to make a choice in mean time the guy said he would hold on to this one up front for me in meantime the idoit drops the box and then reasurre me it will be okay even though I had asked for another one of the same one that had not been dropped he refused to get it . Yes I purchased the one he dropped after thinking it was fine . not thinking prior to internal damage the fall may of cause . , I decided on this one due to fact ram was sound quality mattered most to me . Has both of that . It loaded up fine when took it home, did virus scan ,all updates everything worked amazingly well. second day took it out for a few minute it still worked fine on you tube , my kids school page, watching videos off our external hard drive . 3rd day took it out it was running really slow , so I did a scan with mc fee ,scan came out good no viruses on full scan , then I went to you tube to watch a video and a mircrosoft pop up came up telling me I had a virus to urgently call them , not to close the page or else they would shut down my pc and had all my info .I shut it down , then got it back up running minutes later , so decide to run a scan ,next thing the scan failed so I did a restore , that would not work so then I did a recovery late last night , that failed it kepted flashing , gave me a blue screen of death then a told black screen of death. Nothing worked passed 6pm last night now . Don't buy this computer sucks. am ticked off . un happy customer its going back today hoping to get a full refund .

First time buying a brand new laptop. First time using an asus. Never doing that again. I bought thia laptop and it would turn off with out warning once a day to do updates? They said that shouldn't happen, so I took it back and got a new one. For the first few days it didn't shut off randomly, but one day it did, now it would even turn back on. Also, the battery only lasted 3 hours, but u can never take the manufacturers word for it.

Well i bought this coumputer on the boxing day and it was very good and fast at first but then problems started to roll in. whenever i did the video card update it would crash and i had to reinstall win 10 then the cd/rom wouldnt boot up my cd and the games got laggier and laggier. now i have to send it for repairs at a best buy shop. NOT RECOMENDED TO BUY THIS LAPTOP (unless u love fixing it). Buy a HP or DELL but not this metal stuff.

  • from Kitchener, ON

great computer

Touch pad is to unpredictable in its erratic behavior. Has no setting to change this problem.

  • from Kitchener, ON

Trackpad is Terribble

Trackpad is way to sensitive and has no way to adjust the sensitivity. Trackpad is part of left/right buttons and slightest movement while pressing down to click, moves the pointer position away from what you are tying to click on Separate left /right buttons from trackpad would make this laptop more user friendly.

  • from Toronto, ON

Very Good

First thing is first, I don't think that this is a "gaming" laptop. This is a fantastic laptop for essential and everyday use, work use, and etc. Programs load so quickly (office, adobe). I think it is a great laptop for a great price. Definitely can't go wrong!!!

  • from Maple Ridge, BC

Beware: NOT as advertized

This product is not as shown. The illustration shows a normal keyboard but it is shipped with a Frenglish keyboard that has an extra key between the shift and Z keys and a distorted Enter key with an extra key between apostrophe and Enter. If you touch-type you may need to us an external keyboard and mouse, which eliminates the functionality of a laptop.

Straight out of the box freezing numerous restart black screen - phone for it and they could not get it restarted -then they said a reinstall had to be done - reinstall took overnight audia jack did not work after factory reboot/reinstall - downloaded updated drivers rma was suggested for return

I bought this brand - ASUS - because of it's reputation, highly rated, etc. This product has been nothing but TROUBLE! The audio jack doesn't even work! Factory reset and still nothing. RMA now. Has to be shipped to Ontario from BC!! ACER was bad, but how could ASUS be worse - right out of the box??? smh

Returned 2x

Bought this unit during the Christmas holidays on sale. after 1st boot up, could not connect to the internet. troubleshooted all windows 10 recommendations and completed system reset and still nothing. Retuned it for the same model thinking I had a lemon. The 2nd time wasn't much better. Got connected after resetting modem only to have the wifi disconnect and unable to reconnect. Touchpad ultra sensitive and frustrating to use. The only bright spots was the service from asus and also from Best Buy. Asus was willing to fix asap with no charge and Best Buy made reruns easy. purchased acer in similar price range instead. Way better value and better product.

Asus Laptop

Overall a great laptop. I ordered it online after having to return my old Asus laptop i got for Christmas because the keys and track-pad didn't work. This computer has good ram and loads things quickly. The speaker is fair, not as loud as i thought it would be but still pretty good. the only thing bad about my whole experience was the customer service ive received from best buy. I gave the store the nickname "cant buy" because everything ive been looking for was never in stock or online. I find myself wasting time running to this store looking for items such as laptops and speakers. All and all, trying to get this product was a huge hassle having to deal with delayed workers and multiple online support workers. The product is good, the customer service was poor.

  • from Brampton, ON

great buy

Great mid range laptop, especially for the price overall a great buy.

  • from Kingston, ON

not that impressed

Purchased this product during the holidays. Touch pad is unpredictable. Sometimes the cursor will move or sometimes is doesn't do anything. Then sometimes a slightest touch causes the cursor to move or send an email. Updates happen whenever it feels like doing it, even if you are in the middle of writing a report the system will shutdown.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Great Computer But

Bought this for my wife at Christmas. Got it setup but noticed the battery life is only 2hours? I'm wondering if we should take this one back - I'm a little worried that out of the box this should be considerably longer. Having some unexpected sleep issues and it have had some lag steaming videos online. I'd like to say this is a great computer but I'm little worried we may have received a lemon.

Function Keys not working

Purchased the for ASUS X-Series 15.6" Laptop - Black (AMD Quad Core A10-9600P / 1TB HDD / 12GB RAM / Windows 10) right before Christmas on sale and think I got a good deal. it arrive in the first week of January. Laptop is running fine, but I am unable to use the function keys and not sure what to do. Will have to search the internet for a solution to this problem, when I get the time to do it. You would think that this would already be set up. Kind of frustrating and disappointing actually.

I recently bought this laptop for gaming/video editing. It is perfect since it has great ram and storage. I would totally recommend this laptop for gamers as well as students. It is a great laptop for a great price, would totally recommend it.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Great value!

I bought this during Black Friday to replace an older Dell XPS 15 laptop I've had for years. While that one was performance based and cost a lot more, this one has held up quite well. It does everything I need it to do (web browsing, watching videos and etc). This laptop isn't a gaming one so it isn't recommended for that. My only con is that the battery life isn't the greatest. It's roughly 2 hours or so and the battery itself is built into the motherboard so it isn't replaceable. That being said, built-in batteries are seeming to become the norm. Overall, excellent laptop for the specs and price point

Bought a new laptop went home it didnt work .exchanged and bought again still it had problems.had to return it .so very disappointed

  • from Moncton

I can't write a full review yet.

Since I've only had the unit for a few weeks I really don't know how well it will last, perform etc. but to date it seems just fine, regards, Steve.

Short battery life.

Battery life is less than 2 hrs I returned the laptop ! I do not recommend this product unless you never intend to unplug it!

Not Very Impressed

Purchased this laptop to replace my old desktop that is on it's last legs. I do not consider myself to be a computer expert, but do know enough that I should be able to work through most issues. The laptop that arrived was not was pictured. The keyboard is not a English only keyboard - includes French as well as English. When I tried to load my existing programs onto Windows 10, I experienced several problems. The Mail service that comes with Windows 10 is crap. They want you to update to Office 365 (at a cost of course). I loaded on my Office 2007 programs and wanted to use Outlook 2007 as my default email client. However, regardless of what I try to do, I cannot seem to get Windows 10 to recognize this email client as a choice as a default program. So, I have to use the Window 10 mail client as the default for the computer (for use when emailing while on the internet) - and use my Office 2007 as my go to email client for everyday use. (not the laptop's fault, just my pet peeve with Windows 10). The touch pad is not very good. The left clicker sticks occasionally and the enter function is hit and miss. Fortunately for me, I will be hooking this up to a docking station and will not need to use the touchpad much. Finally, the speakers on this laptop are very poor. They produce an extremely tinny sound. Unfortunately, there is no equalizer available on the laptop to adjust sound quality. I would definitely not recommend this unit if you plan to watch movies or play games using the laptop speakers. If I did not already spend considerable time loading programs and troubleshooting the Windows 10 issues, I would definitely considering returning this unit and look for something else.

Radeon R6 graphics chip?

Advertised as a Radeon R6 graphics chip but the one I purchased was actually an R5. I returned it..

  • from abbostford

Exactly what I needed

This laptop is perfect for casual gaming, Working, and streaming videos. It is fast and responsive and has plenty of storage

  • from Ottawa,ON

Not the GPU listed in specs

It's listed as having a Radeon R6 gpu. Got it home and found it was actually a Radeon R5 gpu. Performance was less than desired but likely fine for most users. I returned it. One annoying design flaw - the power switch is right above the escape key which resulted in turning off the computer accidentally a few times right in the middle of something.

i got this laptop 2 weeks ago used every day has not crashed or slowed down on any of my games i play as like to play games battery is alright it tends to die in 4 hours that is my down side only on this laptop. this i totally recommend this asus to a friend or who is in school.

  • from Coquitlam, BC

Pretty Good

Its overall a good, fast laptop. Only negative is the battery is pretty weak.

  • from Kelowna, BC

Excellent value

Purchased for wife & these are my initial findings after a couple of days use: Easiest laptop to set up of 4 I've purchased in last 10 years. Very little bloatware. 12G Ram makes it pretty quick for browsing and playing video (I'm not a gamer so can't speak of that fitness for use). Good fit and finish. Like the keyboard layout & spacing of keys. Decent touchpad (but generally use a mouse anyways)

  • from Toronto, ON

It's okay

There are very few things to like about this laptop, and I will mention them first. Pros: - Fairly fast performance (although CPU maxes out really quickly) - Lots of RAM (not very useful because the CPU bottlenecks it) - Lots of storage Cons: - Slow 5400 rpm hard-drive - Potato quality webcam (people might not even recognize your face if you're a few feet away from the screen) - No touchscreen, back-lit keyboard, and screen is not full HD - Battery life is absolutely garbage (lasts an hour an a half or so on lowest brightness) - Fans are constantly running (not too loud, but most new laptops keep the fan off until heavy tasks are running) - Says it has "ice cool technology" but palm rests still get uncomfortably hot to the point where it's not pleasant for me to type this right now - Build quality is poor, and very flimsy Overall, I've had it for a week and I absolutely hate it. Will be returning it, and getting something else instead. Never owned ASUS laptop before, but this will definitely be the last one.

  • from Toronto, ON

Lacking in some spots

I got this laptop on sale and considering the specs it was a good deal. It is not worth the regular price. Also the website is incorrect, this comes with an R5 graphics processor not an R6 as noted by Bestbuy's site. The screen is not so great. Lots of ghosting and not quite clear. The keyboard is also English and French so the Shift buttons are really small. I am pleased with it so far.
