Not bad for price

Saw this was on sale so decided I should buy it vs a newer version of a slightly less powerful laptop. The 1070 card alone in it made the decision for me. So far I am at peace with how this laptop performs. There are downsides a plenty though. 1 - the weight is pretty hard to deal with unless you have owned a gaming laptop before. Its quite heavy but that was to be expected. 2 - battery power is crap on this version. Apparently Asus used a smaller battery than the prior laptops and the current ones. Bat life is about 3-3.5 hours unless you are gaming in which case you may get 1 hour worth. It is a laptop that needs to be plugged in. 3 - processor. Was happy with the i7 until I realized it was running at like 2.6ghz which is quite slower than my desktop equivalent. Its fine when you are plugged in and can turbo it. 4 - needs a solid state drive for windows. I recommend spending the cash and buying a solid state drive and reinstalling everything. Its a pain but the upgraded speed is worth it. 5 - cant change the battery far as I know. Its internal so I am in doubt that it can be upgraded to the larger 90W as it i believe it currently has a 60W. Like I said earlier though, was on sale and with the 1070 was the same or cheaper than ones that had the newer processors but only had the 1060.

High end desktop performance out of the box

This computer is a beast. Its beautiful inside and out. This thing blows away my Alieware 18 r3 with 780m sli and extreme cpu. My 3d mark benchmarks are crazy high. Comes with a high end wifi card and plenty enough ram. A SSD really wakes the machine up though. The G sync monitor is fantastic and inmages are the best i have ever seen on a laptop. I can here the fans under heavy gaming but they are not annoying. I plan to game and watch movies and surf the net with this bad boy. I launched DOOM 2016 and was on the podium after nearly every match on multiplayer. I rarely achieved that with my Alienware18 which is long gone now.

Stong laptop at the cost of portability

I needed a new portable solution to edit and review massive video files from my drone business. Since I do some photogrammetry as well, a powerful graphics card was a must. This laptop is a workhorse! It can handle everything I've thrown at it so far. The materials used seem pretty solid, the cover is metal which is a nice touch but for the most part this laptop is plastic. Another upside is the amount of different ports this thing has, I can charge and use almost any type of device without needing adapters. The SD slot is a must for quickly dumping drone footage and the inclusion of an optical drive is rare these days, but it allows me to burn DVDs on the spot if thats what the client wants. I like how it allows me to keep my options open. The screen is very bright and vivid, matte screen means no glare, and this thing has amazing viewing angles which is great when showing videos to groups of people on it. A few items that could use improvement: - The keyboard is set back from the edge of the computer enough to make it noticeable, not uncomfortable for short periods of time but prolonged use left my wrists a bit sore - the edge where your wrists lie when typing is 'sharp' in it's own way. - This thing is heavy - 10 lbs! I suspect most people will have this sitting on a desk most of the time so probably not a bit issue but I use it in my truck regularly so it's worth mentioning. - This thing is huge - Will not fit in any of my existing laptop bags, two of which are rated for 17" laptops. The dimensions are larger than most laptops so you may be left with limited selection of bags. I got creative and ordered an aluminum briefcase with foam pull-outs and made it fit at about half the cost of the ASUS Shuttle 17"+ laptop bag. - This thing screams 'gamer' - It is unfortunate that for the type of work I do I have to buy a gaming computer because it looks like a spaceship and not as professional as I might like, however once I fire it up and all the videos / 3D models playback smooth as butter the clients don't seem to mind. All in all - I highly recommend this computer if the size and weight aren't going to be an issue. As a VR ready computer this thing will be able to handle most games / software for the years to come. I purchased this laptop on sale.

Lovin it

So far this laptop has done all i hoped it would do. Netflix ,world of warcraft both run just fine. Would have been cool if it had an rgb keyboard (my wife bought this for me as a gift and she thought it had, so a bit of a disappointment) and just as a side note...finding a case to fit it is difficult .

Great laptop, but don't order online.

After a saga of calls to get this finally shipped properly, my laptop was delivered. If you're not going to be at home when this is delivered and you want it in a timely manner, I recommend either purchasing in-store and requesting they order it in, or using Canada poet's flexdelivery. This laptop is a powerhouse. I've managed to hit 90fps at super ultra in World of Warcraft, and 55fps in the rain in Black Desert Online. This thing is nice and fast and the cooling seems to do a good job, but it has air intakes on the bottom as well, so you can use a cooling pad to keep it chill. Would definitely recommend this laptop, especially if you can get it on sale.
