Slow with Burnt Pixels

Bought this Laptop about 4 months ago and have had nothing but issues. It struggles to run most processes, is constantly updating and has Burnt pixels in the screen. My 10 year old Asus ran much smoother than this laptop. Advise do not buy.

Could be great

Very nice overall for the price as a basic laptop. Don't expect stellar performance despite 8th gen intel processor. Main reason is a terrible hybrid drive. It helps with a fast startup but the SSD part is very small and the software managing read/write functions to the drive must have some bugs. The disk is overall extremely slow, much slower that 10 years old spinning drives I had in old computer.

Pleasant surprise

Bought this a few days ago and very pleasantly surprised. A couple of things you should know, the keyboard is not backlit and the screen is good, not great. But there is a ton of positives with this machine, including a very fast quad core CPU, and a sneaky fast hard drive. Yes, when you download the windows updates it will be slow, but day to day operation, it is as fast as my other SSD drives. Huge storage. Fast internet. 8 gb of ram is perfect unless you are doing alot of video editing. Keyboard and trackpad very nice. Overall a solid product from Asus for those on a budget. Slim and light. No hesitation in recommending. 5 stars.

Not for me

It did not work right out of the box - sluggish, poor audio device and kind of cheap feel.

Thin, powerful and light

Thin powerful, light! This thing is pretty fast. It has a lot of storage and all that jazz. I recommend this 100%.

Great machine, screen is questionable

I love the laptop so far...fast enough, nice design, everything i wanted including the 8th gen processor. My only worry is the screen. I am very gentle on my laptop and try not to ever touch the screen, but somehow i have 2 nicks in the screen already. Also, I returned the first one after finding a nick after less than a week. They are very minor and maybe i am being obsessive, but i just don't know how they are appearing so easily after only a couple of months of light use. Anyway, the machine is good, the screen material just seems a bit flimsy.

Very good but not perfect

I purchased this laptop recently when it was on sale. Overall it is a very good machine. I am quite satisfied. The CORE i5 processor is very fast. It is only slightly slower than a one year old, high end i7 laptop that I use for work. The included 8 GB of RAM should be enough for most general computing tasks. There is a second memory socket on the motherboard so expansion is possible. The screen is full HD 1920x1080. Most laptops in this category are lower resolution. Now for the bad. The keyboard is not the US version shown in the pictures. It's the multilingual one. The keyboard feel is not bad - a bit spongy. The monitor has limited viewing angles. My biggest complaint is the included hybrid hard drive. It's slow. The 8 GB SSD cache doesn't seem to help. I replaced it with an true SSD. There is also a PCIe SATA slot on the motherboard that can hold a second SSD. Upgrading to an SSD makes the laptop very usable. Boot time is a matter of seconds.

Hard Drive Grinding Noise?

Everything on this laptop is quite fast and fluent. However, there seems to be a constant grinding noise coming from the hard drive. Does any other purchaser experience the same thing?

Overall Value for money

Asus should have given a backlit keyboard at least. Feel like blind when you type in the dark I got it on sale, hence seems value for money to me. Pros: Good Battery life Thin and lightweight Decent performance Cons: Keyboard is not backlit HDD making typical sound

Love This Laptop

I bought this while it was on sale the other day. My experiences so far are:- It is of a light slim build. It runs windows 10 with Crotana (pretty cool). This talks you though the set up which was easy and quick. You get 30 days free trial of office. It is a hybrid hard drive which from what i understand is both disk and SSD. It has a fingerprint reader (which works). I have not found the keyboard to be bendy as another reviewer said. And I have found the track pad to be very responsive and surfing the web with more than one page open to be fast and efficient. I love this laptop and so far i would buy another. The cons to this review are, I have only been using it for about a week so long term is still unknown. I will write back if any major developments. I am not a heavy user and do not profess to know a lot about computers. I will say though a drawback my husband had was the feel of the back of the screen. It is textured and may overtime show wear or scratches easily, it feels a little like one of those hologram place mats for kids. My husband uses an iMac and thought this was just as responsive for less than half the cost. 5/5 stars from me.

Good Value

There really isn't any comparison at this price point. This laptop is loaded with the latest tech, making a faster and quieter experience. However, this laptop makes room in it's budget by cutting corners on the exterior. The keyboard is flimsy, the power cord is sketchy, the battery life is abysmal (4 hours?!). If you are an office designer, this fits the bill. The screen is fine, and the latest connectivity is all there. Some are going to be hard pressed to find an entry-level desktop of this spec at this price. However, If you are a coffee shop freelancer, keep looking...

Laptop Screen

The screen is not bright enough and including the saturation its so light, that you can't see stuff properly

Not so good

The screen is not that bright, even when it's set to the highest level...the keyboard is way too flexible (bends in when you type), and the battery life is just average (about 4-5 hours). Trackpad is very laggy, and is not like those high-quality precision trackpads.

no thanks

Turnoff alert: the keyboard does not light up, the keys are really loud and the mouse pad is super clicky. When you open the box the laptops seems really nice, its very slim and the quality looks good, but when you take a closer look you see how cheap the material is. Warning: Says SSHD but it is NOT. This is a Disk Drive. Just got it today and I am ready to return it.

Better than I expected even...

I just got this exact model from bestbuy.ca. It's actually much faster than I had expected, though I'm not sure what to attribute that to (8GB RAM is common, i5 is middle of the road, SSHD perhaps?). It's also faster than my previous 12GB RAM laptop, so overall I am really happy with this one. I purchased this mostly because I was after 1920x1080 screen resolution, which is somewhat hard to come by or costs more. Of course who knows how this will hold up 2-3yrs from now, but today I am pleasantly surprised at the speed of this one, especially for the price. The only downside I've noticed so far is that the battery isn't removable (at least without taking the bottom off anyway).

Great looking laptop!

I'm so tempted to buy this! I saw it in the store today and it's the nicest looking 15" i've seen. Has the new 8th Gen i5, is super thin, very light and has a nice looking screen. Please go on sale soon!
