Do not recommend

This computer has been a problem from the start. After less than a month I started having issues with the WiFi cutting in and out randomly. From there the computer started running very slow; taking 2 hours to do updates and 30 min + to start up. Programs started freezing and "not responding" almost every time I used them (i.e. Microsoft Word). Then, the computer started refusing to connect to the internet even when it was plugged in with the Ethernet cable. This isn't a problem with the internet provider as it happens at several different locations, where other computers and devices have no problem connecting to the internet. After all this, I took the computer back to Best Buy and they fixed it within 2 days. But after about 1-2 months the same things are happening again. Sometimes a network reset will fix the WiFi issue, but that has stopped working as well. Also, it's not like it's always a problem, but I would say it's more trouble than it's worth. For example, the WiFi will stop working and be troublesome for a few days to a week, then will work fine with no issues for a few days to a week. Personally, I don't trust this computer and would not recommend it to anyone.

Enjoyed at first, but ultimately returned

After a lot of research I bought this model, in part because of the dedicated graphics card (I'm a moderate gamer but refuse to have a desktop). I loved it at first. It ran well, including games, was quick to load, etc. but I realized it made a bit of a noise all the time. It sounded like the disc was running, a sound you'd expect it to make when it is starting only. Oddly enough, if I loaded a game the fan would kick in and drown out the noise. It was a bit annoying, so I took it into the geek squad and they said there had been a lot of reported issues with this model and recommended I return it and choose another. So I did! I bought the Acer Swift 3, same size and also with dedicated graphics, including a small SSD, and so far I'm thrilled.

poor build

the track pad is very atrocious! Its sounds cheap and loud every time I use it. The build quality is not that great, its mostly made out of plastic.

This trash is so freaking slow!!!! It doesn't feel like it has any energy, even when browsing normally!!! My 200 dollar Chromebook is way faster than this when it comes to browsing speed and normal stuff like that. however, Its good for moderate gaming, but I still don't recommend this laptop. Please stay away from this machine. Get yourself an acer aspire 5 instead which has a much better GPU. It also feels cheap. You literally feel like its empty inside because of how lite it is. I just can't understand how this thing is 800 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for the price

Here are my experiences with this laptop as a teen: Build quality: Build quality is subjective. Its a very light laptop, so that's that! Fan noises: The fans are pretty loud when you game on it. People can definitely hear it if there sitting beside you in a quiet class, but the fans only start to get loud when you game. Speakers: The speakers are pretty good for movies or just listening to music. When listening to movies, you can hear the explosions and gunshots left and right. And they also get pretty loud. Performance: You don't find laptops with an i7 that are for this price, which is the reason why i bought it. It games pretty well, to give you an idea, gta 5 on medium settings runs smoothly, but some other games need to go down to low settings like Rust. Overall its pretty solid for school or for some moderate gaming, but i suggest you collect your money and buy something a little more expensive like the Acer Aspire 5 which has an SSD with an integrated graphics card for 900 dollars!

Don't Buy This - Most Units Have Defective WiFi Adapter/Software

it's a deal for a reason. the wifi adaptor keeps malfunctioning. I bought this in after I bought it and I found out the techs new about the issue, and can't fix it.... they keep selling the units. BE WARNED!!! YOU WILL BE COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED BY HAVING TO RESET THE ROUTER EVERY 15 MINUTES.

Good Laptop

I purchased this laptop and kept it since I got a good price for it. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: - Nice design and color - Light weight compared with other laptops in the same price range and with the similar hardware. - Vibrant colors and sharp screen - Nvidia graphics card is decent for playing games at medium settings or just watching videos. Cons: - No easily accessible memory upgrade slot. If you want to upgrade the memory, you will need to basically open the laptop bottom cover, remove the motherboard and some wires since it is not placed in an easily located area. If you are not familiar with computer internal components, I advise you to have a computer technician to do it for you. - Quite a few bloatware software installed by default in your laptop, remove them and your laptop performance and speed will improve a lot. - By default this laptop is not set up to be run at the highest setting and performance for watching videos and playing games. This is the reason for all the complaints from other customers about pause and stop videos and horrid game performance. This the only laptop model I have seen where both the Integrated graphics card and the Nvidia graphics card is enabled at the same time. To get the performance you want, you will need to go to the Nvidia graphics settings and fine tune it.

I rolled the dice in purchasing this laptop after reading the mixed reviews here don't make the same mistake I did! This laptop is a SLUG and fortunately BestBuy has agreed to take it back despite being outside the standard 14-day return period for online purchases. After two weeks of troubleshooting it, I could not find resolution to this machine constantly running at 100% disk usage, even while idle i.e. no applications running. This has the effect of rendering the computer basically completely unusable - everything is borderline frozen with the fan running at high speed. 20 seconds to open Firefox and inability to search google, 10 seconds for the windows start menu to pop up and another 10 seconds for the letters you enter in the search to appear. I was not able to re-boot using the restart command, it would freeze and I'd have to do hard boots. All windows updates were installed. Really frustrating and despite lots of googling and trying a million different suggestions to fix the 100% disk usage issue, nothing worked. Really frustrating because the specs are pretty good for this price point. Not sure whether this is an ASUS issue, or an ASUS/WINDOWS compatibility issue, but this machine is definitely affected by the 100% disk usage problem.

I highly dislike this laptop! The power cord NEVER stays plugged in if you move the computer. Even shifting it on your lap causes it to fall out. Not to mention, WTH is up with the massive power block right on the plug? Also, it's only a two pronged plug; no grounder. The touch pad clicks very loudly and is often stiff (has been since I opened it). The fan is also loud and don't get me started on how loud the keys are when you type. Also, sleep mode is weird. Despite my settings, it seems to wake up on its own. Furthermore, the plugged in light is bright white. You don't want this in your bedroom when you're trying to sleep...unless you need/want a nightlight. I bought this as I received a credit from Best Buy when they decided my Acer wasn't worth fixing. I was told it was comparable. It's not at all. My four year old Acer was far superior and I miss it. Every. Single. Day. Save yourself the regret and fork out the money for the laptop that you really want.

I usually love asus, howeverbthis particular modle was unreliable and kept freezing. A computer that cant run chrome with netflix playing is not worth the amount of money thatbtheyre asking for.

Brutal laptop. So slow. takes like 10 minutes to start. My surface laptop takes 30 seconds. I bought this clunker for the wife. Will be returning for a Surface.

It does not connect to wifi at all. Even when Best Buy and Asus were contacted they were not able to resolve this issue or replace the unit. Don't buy this, it is a waste of money.

It's not what you think.

For the price, it's a very nice buy, however the i7 is only a dual core processor where a quad core would perform much butter. In addition, the fact that ASUS simply threw in a dedicated graphics allows you to run *some* games at a decent setting, but the laptop internal component layout is not optimized for the graphics card, and so it overheats quickly and the cooling fans sound poorly built. Don't make the same mistake I did, but do stick with intel over AMD processors.

This Laptop is great for high school students.

This laptop has it all great connection HD display intel i7 core processer, its great. What i love about it is the connection speeds. did you know it has 2.7 Gh microprocesser wow. That is way above the average for any portable laptop. If youre looking to buy this laptop please i highly recommend buying at best buy, the geek squad and great service, makes me confident that i bought the best laptop for the best price.

Frozen screen and buzzing

Have had this laptop for four months now, bought it for the relatively low price, light weight and components (I mainly use it for word processing, Netflix, video recordings, and more recently Adobe suite). It started freezing during movie streaming with buzzing and more recently freezes during startup and the audio issues while listening to music. Very disappointed in it as I spent just as much on a refurbished competitors laptop 7 years ago and it still works fine (just a little slower).

worst purchase ever

I bought this laptop due to the relatively low price considering it contains an i7 processor. Do not make the same mistake as me - this laptop does not run like the components would lead you to believe. I had the same issues which the other reviewer, Fred, mentioned, as well as distorted audio issues which I have yet to solve. DO NOT BUY.

Good laptop is you don't want to watch any videos

I bought this laptop mainly for school, netflix and a bit of gaming on the side (I know, that's not the best gaming laptop, but I'm not a huge gamer and this laptop was fine). Anyway, the laptop is pretty looking goog, feel comfortable when you have to tap on it and the pictures are beautiful to watch on it ! Now, if you love to watch series or just videos in general, it'll work fine for few minutes until it froze completely with a loud buzzing noise. It lasts maybe 10 seconds but when you pay that much, you don't want that to happen. It happens everytime. I called geek squad, they told me that it was maybe a driver issue, so I uninstalled and installed it again but still the same problem. Fortunately, I was able to exchange it without any problem, but it happened again. No idea if I was really unlucky or it's badly made, but I would not suggest it.
