piece of trash

since i bought it i had issue like restart by it self and the gesture pad not working ,the battery running too fast and the copy of windows installed on laptop for the reason of restore was damage i contact asus they fixed 2 times and broke again ( actually they installed windows and didn't fix the main reason ) the last time they replace it with refurbish piece and refuse to got me new one. really i don't recommend it its waste of time and money

Worst laptop I've ever owned

Bought this around Black Friday 2017. Was initially very pleased with how it performed with regular daily use, apart from some of the keys being a bit unresponsive, particularly the space bar. Then the on-board speakers stopped working. Then it began restarting, at random, with absolutely no warning. Now I think the hard disk is falling apart. As for cosmetic problems, the display has a horizontal line of scratches across almost its full width because clearly it rubs up against the keyboard when the lid is closed. There's also a piece of plastic at the back, by the lid hinge, that I have to click back into place every so often. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP. You will almost certainly be disappointed. Wish I'd spent up for something with better reliability.

Bought this less than a year ago, less then 2 hours of battery life. Performance is also terrible as well. Would not recommend.

Its good but wouldnt recommend

Its a really good laptop, it can run lots of games but when i got it, it crashed a lot. FOr some reason it has stoped crashing, for about a month, which is why i havent returned it.

Works Great

I have 3 of these since last year and they all work great. Sounds like the other reviewers don't know what a Windows 10 Sleep function is nor how to change it, and are unfamiliar with ejecting DVDs from a laptop. Seems like one should at least know how to run the equipment before posting a review right?

46 days old and now dead !!!!

won't boot ,,,,, no screen activity what so ever BOUGHT JAN 27 .2018 motherboard is powered as my usb led light still working otherwise is a paperweight with light ; i can turn usb light on and off bought virtually same laptop ACER MODEL SAME EXACT CPU & hardware...kept crashing due to CPU ERRORS This Asus was fast and responsive until death !!!!!!!! less than 1 min reboot because I instantly replaced **Snail HD with SSD ** original snail hd still never been booted

It has no Dvd port only a cover plate, Oh they will install one, for the price you can buy a low end laptop with everything in it. I blame the untrained personal, who sold it, (she claimed, that all the essentials were there) and my stupidity to take her word for it and the stores deception for not labeling a product properly They should make the unsuspecting client to be aware of the product"s shortcoming, IT HAS NO DVD DRIVE!!!! I realised this only 3 days after the return policy expired. As for the performance, I have nothing to say, I only used it 4 times, it worked OK.

So I have had this laptop since Christmas 2017 and I haven't had any problems, but now I wanted to watch a dvd on here but couldn't find they eject key. I have researched and tried everything but I can not get my dvd player to open. If anyone knows how to open it please reply to me. Thanks..

Same problems as other reviews

My wife bought this computer in November 2017 and within a month it was randomly shutting off. Streaming video also stutters on the laptop for some reason, which is really annoying. This is a bargain-bin piece of junk - avoid!

Terrible Computer

Purchased it new for my wife and lasted less then a week when the monitor went and took back to Best Buy and they said to send it back to ASUS. Instead of them giving me a new one or better yet my money back, I sent it back and they will fix it. I can't wait to get it back to see how long it will last. I don't blame Asus as much as myself for I know better. Just had to read the reviews. By the way I own an MacBook Pro and so happy I do. In short, don't buy this computer.

WORSE Laptop Ever

I bought the Asus X555 from BestBuy back in October of 2017 and it has been HUGE inconvenience. I would not recommend this laptop neither will I be buying Asus laptop in the future. (1) the keyboard doesn't work properly. It keeps skipping keys and missing key strokes. So much so I had to get an external keyboard (2) a few months later the audio completely stopped working and no trouble shooting worked. I have tried to install a new driver. Done the uninstall and reinstall as suggested and it still doesn't work. (3) heavy bloatware and frequent updates. I had a HP laptop for several years and I didn't need to worry about the performance; maybe because of this computer full of bloateware (they try to push you their version of SkyDrive, cloud drive or One Drive too and keep requesting updates) it frequently requests to perform important system updates. I had about four updates in one month that took several hours each. Involuntarily it shut down my work and performed the updates if you don't defer it. It is super frustrating and has wasted me a lot of time trying to fix its problems. You may as well buy a brick if you're going to get this Asus laptop. PLEASE do yourself a favor and skip buying this Asus laptop or ANY Asus laptop especially if you're in BC. I am going to have to buy a new laptop because this is basically unusuable with the amount of wasted time with troubleshooting and issues. I should note as well that this laptop was Slower than my 5 years old HP laptop out of the box. I had to add another 8 GB ram to make it load more than three web pages at a time.(That said once I added the 8GB extra ram, it became rather useful multi-tasking laptop but with that said, you have a keyboard that doesn't work and an audio that doesn't work and a laptop that wastes a lot of your time with troubleshooting and updates.) It's also a very flimsy laptop. It's all plastic.

Poor Quality Laptop

I currently have this laptop as a loaner for my Dell Inspiron I just bought in September and I have not experienced a laptop like this one for MANY years. It reminds me of my mother's first laptop about TEN YEARS AGO and her's was STILL BETTER. The major problems I find is the keyboard, it is very finicky, won't recognize keystrokes and you really have to press down to get it to work. Sound is poor, doesn't connect to the internet properly most of the time. Would NEVER RECOMMEND this computer to anyone!

Slow and Loud

I got this laptop as a loaner when my 3 year old Macbook Pro was being serviced and I can't believe how slow it is - my 3 year old mac was running faster even with issues! The screen is super poor quality and it is constantly making loud noises. Before my Mac I had a 2008 Acer and it was faster and better quality after 5 years than this computer. Felt compelled to write in case anyone was looking at this laptop - I don't mind Windows computers but you can get much better quality for a similar price.

Not worth the money

Absolute junk. You want to think it's going to be a decent system with the specs, but don't let that fool you. 36 hours out of the box, the video card crashed twice, leaving me with a grey screen with no cursor and no ability to ctrl alt del out of it, I had to brown it out twice. It is slow, slow, slow... I can't believe it has the specs it does, and performs so poorly. Save yourself the trouble, and don't buy This waste of money.

Please help

I got this today all the browsers that came with it were slow and super glitchy I fixed this by getting Google chrome which now works amazing it's touchy and very slow to load anything else I don't really know how I can free up resources as one review said to remove bloat ware and it will work great what can I remove safely and I haven't done anything but add Google chrome and do the updates please help

Worst Laptop Ever

I never write reviews but if this review helps someone not to buy this terrible laptop I have done my duty. I basically bought the computer to Skype my parents. It cant even do that correctly. It is slow to start up even though I haven't downloaded a single app other than Skype. I have had an Asus previously that lasted me 5 years and this new laptop is still not as good as my 5 year old laptop. tried to record a Christmas even seen such terrible videos ever, very grainy and laggy, cant clearly hear the voices when people are talking. The Cortana that is supposed to be able to have you speak and it will do things without 20% of the time. the rest of the time it freezes and you end up having to type what you want anyway. My worst purchase ever...I am ashamed.

Got in on a Cyber Monday sale, it's a decent cheap(ish) laptop once you uninstall bloatware. Only gripes is the screen/resolution and track pad operates a little wonky.

Solid performance, nice specs

I purchased this laptop during Black Friday deals and held on to it before giving it to my son for Christmas. I was a little skeptical while holding on to it as I saw some of the poor reviews come in; however, no complaints with this until after the first couple of days of use. The sound is excellent and we were able to stream full 1080P HD videos on Youtube with zero lagging and real crisp images. It ran fine even with some of the pre-installed bloatware (which I've since removed). All in all, pleased with the purchase.

Not Worth it

I bought this computer on Black Friday and it turned out to be such a terrible laptop. I had an Asus Netbook 8 years ago and that little thing out performed this slow out of the box piece of trash. Don't waste your time on this laptop. Asus has let themselves go. I had this computer less than 24 hours. If you are thinking about buying this laptop then do yourself a favour and just DON'T. Don't let the specs fool you. According to the specs it should be a fairly decent computer, however, it lacked in so many areas of performance. it took almost 2 hours just to set up which is just sad. Nothing good to say about this computer.

Bloatware/Bad processor

Disappointed with this purchase. The specs look decent on paper, but performance is lacking. Bloatware chews up resources, and the processor doesn't measure up to spec. It maxes out and the PC freezes all too often. Simple browsing and email pushes this unit to its limit. Wish I could have chosen differently.

I bought 1 and had it for 2 weeks, continuous freezing and sounds from just watching YouTube and Netflix. Talked to Asus and they sent me new driver links which did nothing. Didn't fix the problem. Returned it to the store to exchange thinking it was just a lemon the second one did the same thing. I have never come across this problem ever. After 1 day I took it back and am now looking for another laptop. What's even worse is I missed other black Friday sales for this piece of junk.

Do NOT buy this laptop.

This laptop is fast, I will give you that but it's headphone jack doesn't work and there's definitely something wrong with it's battery. I've tried updating its drivers, rolling them back and contacting Asus technical support. I've also had to exchange this laptop twice in the first week I've bought it. Both laptops had the same issue and the only way to get it to work properly was to send it back to its manufacturer. I'm returning this thing for sure. for anyone who buys it, good luck.

I bought this laptop because I needed PC based laptop for my school. using this only for 3 days, it shut down once all of sudden, and kept getting frozen at some point, but recover soon. Considering this is new laptop, I don't know this is right one.. probably return it soon on weekend. not sure if only mine is defective or what..... speed is enough fast. this is piece of S*hit

Decent for the price

Not the best, but its decent for basic browsing and media viewing. Purchased for my mother in law and set up was a breeze. Uninstalled the bloatware and fully updated within 2 hours. Only gripe would be the LCD screen is not the best but still no regrets for its sale price.

Bilingual Keyboard Layout

I bought this online. The laptop they shipped me had the Bilingual keyboard layout, not the one shown in the image of the laptop. The left shift key is shorter and there is a slash key to the left of the z key. The specs say "Bilingual" but don't match the photo of the keyboard

Not good

Bought this thinking it was a good deal! I ended up with a laptop that had quite good spec but froze most of the time while being on YouTube and i only had 3 app in the computer that i installed .Also tried to reset the computer to start it back to 0 so all my files would be gone would not work and stayed at 80% for an hour. This is not a good laptop. 3 of the sales staff told me it was the best for the price.Don’t be fooled

Makes me realize how much I love my OLD laptop with the broken keys

I just bought the Asus 555Q from Best Buy yesterday. I will be returning promptly. Even upon trying to start up it kept getting the (not responding) message and it took forever to install the new apps in the app installer window, even though I didn't choose many. One app I had to try twice to add. The camera is terrible and severely grainy and laggy. It takes forever to load web pages and the colour is yellowish. I tried to adjust the colouring, but it could not compare to my 3 year old beaten-up Dell Inspiron 15 (that was cheaper!!!) in any way. The Asus is also really loud when it thinks and runs, the keys are springy (making it hard to type smoothly) and the touch pad makes a loud click. I liked NOTHING about this computer. I know it is supposed to have fairly good features, but they don't work together to provide a quality product. This experience has made me realize how much I love my Dell...

R5 or R7? Which is it?

Just bought this today, however I have noticed an error with the product and what is listed on their website. Says the laptop comes with Radeon R7 Integrated graphics. Just ran scan on the computer and they are all saying it has a Radeon R5. I will be talking to the store about this for sure.

Doesn't have R7

Just a heads up to anyone buying this computer. Best buy says it comes with the AMD R7 integrated graphics card, but it actually comes with the R5. Research the chipset (AMD A10-9620p) online and you'll see that it comes with the R5. Don't believe an employee's that say otherwise, check the display models.
