Trust the negitive review on this company

This company is garbage. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! I've bought and replaced two of these bells. Both of them gave me the same headache and heartache. 1st of all, it's a mission to connect it to your wifi \ phone app. It took me a good 45 minutes to figure it out (So i thought at 1st) It looses connection ALL the time. Lets just say I rest and reconnected these bells about 20 to 30 times before deciding to return them once and for all. I bought a wifi extender to help with the connection, didn't help, kept losing connection. Also The picture shows up choppy on your phone! I thought it has to be the extender. I brought the bells inside while it's still on and connected, I've placed it 2 feet away from the extender, even then I was getting the same choppy picture. The sound is also delayed. I then connected it directly to the modem, placed it 2 feet away, the same issue happened. (With both bells) I started reading reviews and saw many many negative reviews about the company with all their products. I hope you read this before you decide to buy as all you'll be doing is waist your money and time!!! This is a garbage company with garbage products which shouldn't be sold anywhere!

Nice idea but unstable

Disconnect every few seconds, always complaining that internet connection is very slow (I have 1GB internet connection, the fastest you can get in Canada). I even tried installing wifi range extender next to it but still lost connection every few second. Returned!

Too slow to be useful

The camera interfere with the bluetooth interaction between your August lock and your phone. It provides a bridge to your August lock when you are out of bluetooth range but typically takes a minute to connect via internet. When someone rings the doorbell, 1/2 of the time, there is no notification received by your phone. When there is, it take minutes to connect to the camera and by then the caller has left. Poor focus, poor illumination with the background lighting of most homes causing poor images. Tech support is a waste of time - I suspect that they are overwhelmed with problems.

Check that your door chime is mechanical, not digital.

I thought this would work great as I already have the August door lock (which is great), however after installing it the door chime would ring repeatedly. After talking with August support it seems my door chime is digital, not mechanical, and the August Door cam won't work with digital door chimes. I don't remember reading anywhere to check this, but it should be more clearly identified. I'll be returning it. If you have a mechanical door chime I'm sure it would be great, just wish I hadn't wasted the time.

So far so good

Installed this product in May. Followed the installation instructions but battery wouldn't hold charge for more than a minute. You are supposed to remove the doorbell and bring it close to your router, instructions say battery will keep it alive during this process. It did not. Contacted tech support and they were useless, wouldn't answer my direct questions and got nowhere. After three emails to them I gave up with their evasiveness. However, over the course of a few weeks I noticed the battery voltage kept creeping higher, started at 3.2 volts, within a week was 3.6 volts then a few weeks later was 4.0 volts and seems to hold there. I got the sense the battery trickle charges over a period of time. At first the unit was flaky, but as the charge increased the unit worked more reliably. Also I installed a network extender near the doorbell, but this may not have been required since I believe problems were due to low battery voltage. Have had it in operation for several months now, I really like the unit. You can turn it on a look out the camera whenever you want, does not require someone pressing the doorbell to trigger the unit like other models. Also when someone rings the doorbell, the unit takes a photo of the person at the door and you can see who is there without turning on the camera. Allegedly in future software releases you can record the video/audio as well. These photos archive on your ipad/iphone for future reference. Another bonus is the ability to intercom with the person at the door, a really nice feature. Overall a good product, I believe better features than other units on the market. Am interested to see what happens in the winter, though. Hopefully it survives.

august doorbell cam review

Great product, generally works fine. Sometimes when you try to connect with app takes a while to connect. When someone rings doorbell connects much faster. My guess is when the doorbell is pressed the camera wakes up much faster than when you try to just take a look at the front door using the watch live function. My guess is the software will improve over time. This is a cool product and would recommend it.

Additional monthly cost not mentioned

In order to retrieve photos and video is there not a monthly fee for August cloud service or is it free? I doubt it
