Breville The Soft Top Pure Electric Kettle - 1.7L - Silver

Model....SK500XL Have to keep turning the Kettle to activate the switch. Only works in an arc of 45 degrees. Both of them have the same problem. Tried WD40 etc. No luck. Pity cannot open it to check it out. In one of them the filter body just broke hence auto shut off is useless. Can you please advise? Once a month desacale them too. In one of them indicator light keeps flickering and switch cracked.

Gorgeous design with matt stainless finish to match other kitchen appliances. The upright cylindrical shape is a bit different and appeals to me much more than the more commonly seen tapered or dome shapes. Front facing volume window is clear and attractive. Relatively quiet and fast with a nice little "ding" once boiled. Comfortable handle, large lid for filling, soft close lid. Not too heavy. My third of the same design. With age I have sometimes had leaking from the bottom seam of the kettle but Breville has had fantastic customer service - either sending me a replacement or offering me a new one at a cheaper price if it is well out of its warranty.

I had this kettle for years and had to rebuy it when it finally died. I've gifted this kettle too. I like that it has large volume, it's simple on/off with a big opening and the clean profile.

We bought a second one of these after our first one cracked in the lid after at least 2 years or more. This affected the boiling and look of the kettle so we replaced it. We decided it must have been a one off event and we purchased another one in June 2020. This one has now cracked in the lid very badly and of course it is out of warranty by a month. What a pity that such a good looking kettle that does a great reliable job of boiling water has such a simple bad fault with plastics that are not up to the task. We will not be buying a third one!!

This is our second Breville kettle. The first one was a Smart Kettle, which worked fine, except the cheap plastic centre on the lid cracked and eventually a triangular piece fell out into the kettle. It was well out of warranty when this happened, so we replaced it with this one as we felt we didn't really use the different temperature settings very often. The same cracks have appeared in the new kettle after less than nine months' use. Breville, please stop using these plastic lids - all your kettles seem to have them now and they are rubbish.
