  • Awesome starter scope for the family

We bought this telescope to start looking at the stars from our backyard. My wife set up the telescope with the kids. It wasn't too difficult and took maybe 20 minutes to assemble. After lining up the red dot finder,we were able to find the moon easily. It was about half full, and you could see lots of detail on the craters, especially along the shadow. The motor drive helped keep the moon centered. The kids had never looked through a telescope before, and they loved it. We also used the smartphone adapter. It took a little fine tuning to get it lined up with the eyepiece, but once we did even the kids were able to get images of the moon with their iPhones. We are planning on taking it out to darker skies sometime soon to view fainter objects, but so far it has been a great telescope!

  • Good for planet, and Moon Observations

Bought it for Christmas, Reasonably well made, comes with tracking motor, Needs some expertise to use the Equatorial mount, but for the price it offers a lot. 5 inch reflective mirror, tripod is good enough to keep scope steady, Red light viewfinder is ok for tracking onto objects, takes some practice.

I may have been over ambitious as a beginner at searching the heavens. Telescope was very heavy. Could not be moved easily. The assembly was difficult. To use it you have to be a little technical to set it up. The price was right though and I think that's what drew me in.
