Good cameras so far

I have four of these in my place now. They seem to be working pretty good, but signing up for the D-link Cloud service is essential for making these useful. Keep that in mind when budgeting for these. My only complaints are the sound isn't amazing (but good enough, especially for such tiny cameras), and the motion detection range isn't that high (maybe 25 feet dependably during the day, and worse at night). I have a large living room/dining room area, and ended up putting one at each end to get all the coverage I want. The other thing to be aware of is that Best Buy has two different versions of this (probably D-link's fault) that have the same SKUs. One is older, comes with older firmware, and doesn't have wall mounts. The other has the current firmware (as of October 2018 at least), and comes with wall mounts for the cameras. The first two I bought in store came with the mounts. The second two didn't, and I didn't realize until I got them home and tried to set them up. Fortunately I was able to exchange them in store seamlessly for a pair with the mounts. Updating the firmware is easy, but if you want the mounts, I recommend buying in store to make sure you get the right one. You'll know because the box has pictures of it mounted to the wall, and says right on it that it includes the mounts.

Not backwards compatable

The pros...… the DCS-8000 is very small and has a great picture. Its the smallest Dlink camera by far... Setup is easy enough if you have Bluetooth 4.0 and the MyDlink app installed. The cons... not backwards compatible with previous Dlink software like DviewCam or other DOS/PC software needed for many previous Dlink cameras

Nice camera kit

I was surprised at the quality of these cameras, being so small, but they are awesome. I like how small they are because I can make them less noticeable. Image quality is great, very crisp and clear. Would recommend.

Good quality, easy to set up

I bought these cameras along with a range extender, also dlink, and I am very happy. Set up via my phone was super simple...I don't think I have seen an easier install process ever... I like the cloud recording, it works pretty good and I like that its free (at least for 1 day). I might purchase one of their paid plans to get more days, but the 1 day works great for me now.

Great little security system!

I bought the 2 pack on Saturday and it was fairly easy to install and get them working. The picture quality is crystal clear, the sound is excellent, and I love the live view! For the price, you can't beat these mini cameras.

Discreet and aesthetically pleasing.

I've had these cameras for nearly one month and they're great little units. The connection setup is very easy but the app itself to operate and configure them is difficult to figure out at first, having you go back and forth between automation rules and scheduling (I still don't have it set correctly, tweaking it here and breaking it there.) The app doesn't need all the aesthetics - I'd much rather a more linear configuration UI which seems popular on the app store. The image and audio quality is good and the IR (night vision) is exceptional for a single emitter - I was impressed to see how much light it casts across the entire room (opposite corners in my room is about 20' and objects are well lit.) A downfall of the switch between day and night is it has been causing false positive motion alerts (as does vehicle headlights passing across the window shades/walls so keep that in mind for placement.) The motion sensitivity is quick along with audio sensor. The push notification is also immediate though only notifies you from the app - there is no email or sms option. The cloud recording was a bonus I didn't realize it provided except that it uses d'link cloud service only, you cannot use One Drive, Google or Dropbox unfortunately. D'link provides a free 24 hr capacity but if you want multiple days worth of storage, they require a subscription (for a reasonable fee.) Price wise, I'd definitely recommend these for peace of mind while away from home.

Love the cloud recording!

I bought these cameras because I heard there was cloud recording. Set up was pretty easy through the app and the image quality is pretty sweet. For cloud recording, there is a free option to allow recording for up to 3 cameras for 24 hours, I have been using it for the last week and so far its pretty good. I get notifications when motion occurs and I just jump to the recordings/events section in the app to play back the recording. I do notice there are some paid plans also, I might look into that if I need more then 24hr recording, but for now, im sticking with the free option. Very happy, would definitely recommend!

MEH, They're OK

Easy to set up.. And the Quality of the video isn't that bad. Easy to use. HOWEVER, it is the slowest app I have ever seen. SLOW to load, and SLOW to connect to the cameras. Often takes so long to connect that it actually TIMES OUT. By the time you get a motion notification, and get connected, it TOO LATE to see whats going on. Also, audio quality if very CLIPPY.

Simple and Effective

It took me about 15 minutes to have both cameras fully functional and since them the app and the operation has been seamless. The quality of the video is good and the notifications are wonderful. No complaints.

Great cameras but cannot record through App without monthly fee...

D-Link has now moved from free security recording on your own devices to paying them every month for “cloud” recording. This is a terrible shift for all their loyal customers. They designed this camera to be unusable on their existing DNR devices. These cameras are incredibly easy to set up. They are high quality, tiny, wide angle, super clear even in darkness, but there is no recording other than manually recording on you mobile device. Terrible design, as this is not even usable with their own recorders, which I use now with several other D-Link cameras. You can monitor them on the D-Link App (but cannot rename them like all the other cameras - as it removes your names every refresh). Had they not wanted to start forcing you to pay them every month - and allowed this to be used as all their other cameras, I would have rated this 5 stars. The D-Link name is now ruined.

Compact cameras with high quality image, but limited functions

I own a variety of IP cameras for my home security, including D-Link and Foscam, as well as a number of off-brand cameras. I had good luck with D-Link in the past, and decided to give these a try given their very attractive price point for 720P (I'm replacing older VGA cameras with these). First the pluses. They are very compact and look quite modern compared to old brick style cameras. The image quality overall is excellent, especially night and low light performance which is vastly improved over older D-Link cameras like the DCS-93x series. While a number of people complain about setup, I found these cameras extremely easy and quick to setup using the Android app, with the built-in bluetooth to aid setup working perfectly. The not so great? Mounting is limited (as in, there is no mounting solution included, you must put these on a flat surface, or fabricate your own mount). Unlike most D-Link cameras, there is no web interface to view the video stream or change settings, so you are stuck with using their app or mydlink website. There, features are extremely limited. You can receive alerts, but there's no recording to FTP or e-mailing you pics. I was in fact very close to returning the cameras because even though it is advertised as RTSP compatible, I couldn't find any way to set them up with with iSpy or TinyCam on Android, which are showstoppers for me. Fortunately, after digging through forum posts, I eventually did find the direct URL's for streaming video (no posting of URL's allowed here, so sorry can't post it). Having the stream makes them infinitely more useful as I can do all the smart motion detection and alert stuff in iSpy instead. Overall, I can understand that D-Link targeted these cameras at a casual audience who would be happy with just the function in the app, and have priced them accordingly. I do find the functions very limited, but fortunately, if you need to, you can use third party software to expand their capabilities. Great value overall for compact, attractive cameras with good image quality.

Very nice and easy to use

I got these cameras over the Christmas Holidays and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the image and the ease of set up. Anyone looking for a basic camera system, you found them here.

Good Quality, Easy Set up = Good Cameras

This kit works pretty well. I needed a basic surveillance solution at my parents place (to keep an eye on their dogs) and I was pretty happy with how they work. I am able to check in whenever I need and the quality is pretty good. Set up was also quite easy, so no complaints there. I would definitely recommend!

Simple and Nice

Got these cameras on a whim and they do the job nicely. Easy set-up and just took a little time getting the right view on camera. They have a good range and the night vision works better than I thought. I do like the small size but still obvious unless you hide them in between things.

Love ‘ em

Been running these in conjunction with a D Link DCS-2530L over the same network and have them spread out throughout the house. Bought them a month ago, and all have operated flawlessly since firing them up. Set up took less than 5 mins per unit. Once you go through the process, you can do the next one with your eyes closed. Pic quality is great in close range, fair as you increase distance, but overall for 720, it’s good. Night vision clarity was better than expected. 120 angle lens provides sufficient full room coverage if placed in corner of room. Very, very minimal lag - maybe a quarter second. Good to strong wifi strength is your friend - I suspect the frustration expressed by other reviewers may have been eliminated by checking for sufficient power in that dept. App is functional and easy to work with on both iPhone 7 and iPad Air2. Overall, very happy with the product. I am actually considering adding a few more.

Very disappointed

I should have read the reviews on this before buying it 2 weeks ago and returning it today. One of the cameras work fine and the other always shows up as being disconnected. Returned back at BB and looking to buy another.

Great for remote access

Easily set up, clear pictures. App works great on my IPad. Wish it had motion activated snap shots instead of notification.

Good Luck Getting These Dollar Store Camera's To Work!

Bought today - Returning tomorrow. After hours of trying to hook these camera's up - I give up. The garbage app makes you attempt to set up your network before even recognizing the camera's. Then it locks there ... and locks your cellphone as well with no escape asides from manually powering down your phone. Then it locks again for wifi password ..... JUNK
