Addendum to my review

The specifications for the DW316 shown on the Best Buy web page require amplification in two places 1. The unit works on both PC and Macs but supplied software is Windows PC only. 2. The specifications that come with the unit show that it can both read and write M - Disc with appropriate software, not supplied.

A bit awkward to use, otherwise a good drive

This is an 8X writer for DVDs which is fast enough for my purposes. I have it installed on a Mac mini running Mac OS 10.11.6 and it works well; however, the supplied software, which I don't need, is Windows-only. The drive will write a wide variety of discs but so far I have used it only with DVD+R. The supplied USB2 cable is long enough to permit the unit to be located away from the computer if desired. The cable must be plugged into a powered USB port, preferably one on the computer. Mine is plugged into a powered USB port of a Thunderbird dock connected to the Mac and works fine. This DW316 is the first USB-powered slim drive I have used. It's very lightness is somewhat of a handicap. One must hold the unit with one hand and push the tray-open button with the other. The button is on the tray which opens quickly like a jack-in-the-box, so it's better to open the tray using the tray-open command of the Mac or disc-burning software (Toast). A disc must be pushed into place to lock it onto the tray. Not a bad feature but again requires the use of both hands and the tray is quite flexible. Takes some care to avoid touching the recording surface of the disc. Same for removing a disc from the tray. The only way to close the tray is by manually pushing it closed. I don't use the drive so often that this awkwardness is important, so I am quite happy with it overall. Only time will tell how long it will last. An Apple Superdrive would avoid the awkwardness of disc handling but is significantly more expensive.

Dell External DVD USB drive works great.

I just connected the external DVD USB drive to my computer and no problems setting it up and using it. Very impressed with the product, It's very thin and light and works fine. No regrets buying it.
