- Mixed results: one fine, one not so- December 2, 2019
I'm having mixed results. I got 2 units for 2 9350 laptops. One is working great, the other combo is having issues with video cutting out from the TB16. I tried different things, downloaded the latest Intel Graphics S/W, but things won't settle down. My current fix is to keep the laptop open enough for the display to be active, which then shows up on the monitor. I can change the resolution and fill the display, but closing the laptop results in loss of video from the TB16, always with a reference to "igfxEM module" and a "display port topology change." The fix works well enough for it to be used while I upgrade a desktop to Win 10...
- Functional but could use some improvements- June 25, 2018
For the most part it works as intended and it does support 2 monitor setups. Overall it has been solid. Some of issues I've had is that it sometimes forgets the resolution of the monitors when the laptop is awakened from sleep, but I'm not sure if that's Windows or the dock causing the issue. Design wise the main criticism I have is the fixed TB cord is on the left hand side and somewhat inflexible. My Dell and many laptops have the TB power connector on the left hand side which makes connecting to it awkward. How this little detail escaped the designers is beyond me. A longer more flexible cord or a pluggable left or right side connector would be better.
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. - Not ready for prime time- November 22, 2019
I have had multiple problems using this dock with an XPS laptop - and with the dock's replacement! The worst is that the HDMI video interface (4K) causes the dock-connected external monitor to blink continuously on laptop wakeup (unplugging the dock and replugging it fixes the problem). Updating laptop as well as dock drivers did not help. Also, you have to plug the dock in after bootup to avoid system messages to the effect that the dock was approved during boot, but not later. I have used other Dell docks that always operated flawlessly (with the same laptop and monitor), so I hope they manage to get the glitches out.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
