Digiwave Digital TV Antenna

We live about 20 km from the TV transmission towers on top of Mount Seymour in Vancouver, BC, Canada. There are three mountains between the transmission tower and us, making it tough to get Vancouver channels. But we have a reasonable look down Georgia Straight, towards Victoria, BC and Bellingham, USA. HD TV waves seem to travel well over water, bending around islands between us and Victoria / Bellingham. We have lots of trees, which interfere with the signal; reception improved when I cut some tree branches. Originally we had a bow-tie type antenna about 12 inches by 24 inches, located inside the house, on a window sill. Including a pre-amplifier. We received one (only) of the many Vancouver stations, CTV, but it was reliable only when the sky was well overcast or it was raining (seems HD waves bounce off clouds). We received one Victoria station and several Bellingham stations. We installed the new directional antenna on a 20-foot tall mast outside the window where we had the bow-tie antenna. The new antenna provided a marginal improvement. We received the second Victoria station (bit dodgy though), no additional Bellingham stations. No additional Vancouver stations. CTV, the one Vancouver station we received before now comes in reliably in all weather. But we did not get even a whiff of the six more channels from Vancouver, which people in Vancouver easily get well by line of sight to the transmission towers. Not CBC, not Global, not City TV, not CBC French, not Omni. The new antenna, with the pre-amplifier, has provided only a marginal improvement over the lower-tech bow-tie antenna. For others living in fringe areas, if they are reaching for the sky, I suggest buying the biggest antenna they can accommodate and perhaps an antenna designed for somewhat lower wave lengths than this one. The antenna was easy to assemble, light weight and looks professional. It was worth the effort, because consolidated the reception we had before; it comes in under all weather conditions.
