When your drone randomly flies away

TL;DR - sorry for the long review, but I’m CONVINCED it’s a story worth sharing with other drones professionals and enthusiasts. I ABSOLUTELY love DJI products, I bought a drone and a stabilizer from them (2 months ago) and loved their products so much I was considering buying the Osmo Raw within the next months. My drone randomly FLEW AWAY. (03-07) I took off and within the first minute, I brought the drone right above my head (gps mode, 60m alt, 4m distance). I heard a sound warning, looked at my controller and it showed « disconnected ». I looked up and I saw nothing, the drone was gone, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I spent the next 40 minutes walking around, hoping the drone would somehow reconnect or use Smart RTH to land back. After 40 minutes where each minute felt like the double, I resolved to head back home and congrat myself for buying DJI Care Refresh, remembering the « VIP » service they wrote about on their website and hoping the replacement process wouldn’t be a pain. (Just for context, this happened halfway through a real-estate mandate and we lost all the on-going footage). Here’s a summary of what happened next: On the 04-07, I've been informed that the fly away drone situation would be covered by DJI and that they'd send us a replacement unit. The email received right after (08-07) informed me that I'd have to wait 2 working days until DJI sends me a 100% coupon, that I will then need to take and use for another order on their website - **  to have it « delivered in the United States! » - when I live in Montréal, Canada (to this day, I still do not understand why the order couldn't be processed directly and quickly by the same person who managed our account - same person from DJI support who got in touch with us). I've also inquired by email if the new drone would include an SD card since the drone flew away with it. The automated response by DJI specifically mentioned "excluding remote controller, SD card, etc." To this day, I haven’t received any answer regarding this, only received even more automated messages. The email response to my inquiry that I've received from DJI's support on 09-07 informed us on a "normal" 5-7 business days process before having a new drone, but the email also apologized for a 10-15 *business days*, an abnormal delay. I couldn’t believe it, I must have had wrongfully understood the email. So I reread it and thought about it. When I received this email, I recalled DJI’s website « Get back in the air in no time » (and that’s their policy when someone have messed up their drones by themselves), our case had been validated by DJI and we were NOT responsible for this fly-away situation. At this point, I again took time to exchange with customer support, sending another email explaining our business issue, and opened up to any "creative" business solutions. I even asked if there was an extra fee I could pay to ensure faster delivery (so that we could get back on our mandate asap). Having no response to this email, I politely asked to escalate the problem to the supervisor. The last exchange I had with DJI gave me the impression that they couldn't care less about our time issues. Which made me remember that when I've firstly decided to pay for DJI care Refresh, DJI announced loud and clear on its website the advantages of such an efficient and « streamlined » customer service. (11-07) I received an email from a different customer support person asking me “what the concern is” so that they can try to assist me with my concern. Again, I couldn’t believe that they simply hadn’t read my clear and detailed previous emails, but resign to write my last email to them in one last good faith inquiry. I summarized all events like I did in this post and told them I was very disappoint

Best Drone out there

I have had the mavic for over a year now. And this drone is amazing. I will definitely be getting a new mavic in the future. No complaints other than battery life. Lasts about 30 minutes, but this is a great battery life comparted to other drones. I picked up a second battery and car charger and have no issues.

Good but need more improvement

It just fly away and in couple seconds crash into tree. I believe there was week GPS so it can not detect its position and was moved to trees by wind . But it survived crash

Worst ever customer service

The product quality is not bad, but on my second flight, it flew away and RTH (Return to Home) feature failed. So they sent me another drone after 1 month. Then after 3 days flying successfully with no issues, the remote controller failed to connect to my cellphone. There was a USB issue in the RC and I sent it back to DJI in California. It's now 3 weeks and they tell me they don't have any remote controller in inventory to send to me. Imagine I paid almost 2000 CAD (including tax) for fly more combo and I couldn't fly it for one week. When I call their customer service which is in China, they just apologise for inconvenience and they say they understand my frustration, But they cannot do anything and that's the way it is. You cannot return a drone if you open it. If I could, I would definitely return it. I have never had such a bad experience with a product

Good drone But !!!!!

Its good But: 1. The camera gimble is very very delicate, i wish it was a little sturdy. And the plastic piece that comes with it (to hold it in place) needs a lot of patience and care to put it on. After all its a Chinese product handle it with extreme care. 2. When you rotate the plane it rotates with a jerk and rotates too fast, i wish it was a little smooth. 3. I wish there was zoom in 4k mode. 4. For that price I would have wanted this Drone to be waterproof so that i could fly it when its raining. 5. I wanted it to follow me in the car but it balked out, couldn't find in flight GPS signals.

best drone - bad place to buy - sells dont know anything

hi Everyone, this is one of the best drone. the only issue is with bestbuy, all packages is Damaged, if you see the condition of the box is bad, dont even think about buying this drone, most likely you will experience fly sensor issue AND IF YOU BUY IT FROM BEST BUY there is no return or exchange in case of any issue. I asked for extended warranty, well they dont offer, i asked the manager how do i get the extended warranty, he just says there none. Unfortunately they dont have knowledge at all, when you get this you have 48 hrs to go on DJI website and buy the DJI care which is 99USD, the DJI care will cover your dron lost and alot more for 12 mon. but because the manager and staff dont know anything you might missed the 48 hr windows.

Way more fun than I thought i was going to have.

I use the Mavic Pro daily. I figured it would just be something I would use once or twice a year. Leave it charged in your car and you will find lots of time to use it. My kids would give it 1 star because I won't let them use it and they want me to spend more time with them. GOOD Luck kids... now go clean your room.

Issue With Availability (Not Available online or in the Store)

This item is neither available online or in the stores. I have a bit of a problem with the way things are being advertised regarding the availability of this product in Calgary. I have visited three stores and there is absolutely no information on when this item will be available. The staff at stores, although helpful, are clueless on the delivery time for this item. Something is broken when your staff is not aware of what is going on with a product you carry and advertise both online and in the stores.

Way better than expected! Impressive

Yes there was a waiting list. Bought from DJI . Shipped from China on Monday and had it in my hands Friday! It's not a toy but I feel like kid on how well it performs. It hasn't let me down and I don't think it will. Many options for great video and images.

Great Drone bad laws

Drone is fantastic but be aware of the new Canadian laws about flying drones. It is pretty much banned everywhere in Canada right now. Even your backyard could be off limits.

Expensive trouble

Received from best buy. Set up and threw error codes immediately. Spent an evening and a morning going through every type of download and fix with dji to finally create a case file and send it to them

Awesome gadget

I received this drone in Mid January and flew it a few time so far. All I can say is wow. You can adjust pretty every parameters to suit what you want to do being the camera, altitude speed the return home feature and anything in between. I have spent a considerable amount of time watching youtube videos and I have a few recommendations: 1-Be very careful if flying in cold weather. The batteries are Lithium-Polymer and are susceptible to cold weather. You might see a 60% charge left and all of a sudden completely drop. That's the nature of Lipo. 2-if you are going to use tripod mode to have the drone circle around a subject, keep in mind that as the drone spins in circle the wind might sause it to shift its trajectory. If trees are present this could spell disaster. 3-IF you are going to hit the return home button, make sure your altitude is set up high enough that it will not run into something on the way back. The same goes if the drone lose communication with the remote. 4-Driving your car and having your drone follow is a BAD idea. Consider placing a sticker in your battery compartment with your info on it in case of a crash. Even better, consider mounting a gps tracker to your drone. (Do your research on that one)5-Have fun and know the limits of the drone. Youtube is jam packed with reviews, tips, dos and donts and awesome videos. This is my first drone and I'm glad I waited.

Drone is 5 star Best Buy 2 star

On Sep 29 I preordered Mavic drone.Delivery was delayed few times and I was receiving e-mails with new dates of expected delivery. Last e-mail about new delivery date to be Jan 15, 2017 I received on Dec 22. When I checked status of the order in January I found out that my order disappeared. I called customer service and they told me that my order was cancelled because the item is not available. I was upset that they did this without notifying me but what you can do. They gave me discount voucher for future order as a compensation for the inconvenience. I ordered directly at DJii on Jan 7 and received the drone on Jan 25. The drone is excellent. Easy to fly which does not mean that you cannot crash it. On Feb 2 I received e-mail from Best Buy that the drone was shipped and my credit card was charged. I refused the delivery and my card was reimbursed but it shows that Best Boy should improve their order tracking

Unable to reveiw!

I just received it after ordering it 13 weeks ago. It still remains in the box as I am unable to fly it. The DJI app continues to crash and there appears to be no fix yet. A lot frustrated after the long wait and no compensation of any sort. "We have your money, just wait".

Product is Great, Best-Buy not so much.

I ordered my unit on Sept 28. Finally received it Feb 1. I fully realize that DJI was very delayed in shipping but what it very frustrating is the lack of information from Best-Buy regarding this. No email except a monthly notice with the date changed again. I called repeatedly for information and got no real answer. The DJI though is fantastic. Can't wait to fly it outdoors once the snow is gone. Flying indoors is a bit tricky!

Best Buy screwed up the pre-order and blamed it on DJI

I ordered on Sept 28, and like everyone else watched every other company ship there mavic pre-orders before christmas. When i contacted best buy they blamed it on DJI. I then found out that best buy was infact shipping out the Mavics BEFORE christmas but not to the people who did the initial pre-order with discount. Again best buy denied it untill i provided them with another persons order and confirmation number that it was shipping to newer pre-orders. It took over a dozen calls, and MONTHS to get best buy to realize they were the problem not dji, proving that they had a glitch in their system (The initial pre-order listed the mavic as a hexcopter and the issue with the description prevented the initial mavics from shipping while the preorders made much later shipped) Bestbuy tip: When asking to speak to a supervisor through the call center they will tell you all the nonsense in the world why they are not available (they can't help you, no supervisors, one will call you back etc) DONT HANG UP AND INSIST TO SPEAK WITH ONE they will even PRETEND to hand up the phone, but here is what i learned. They do not hang up, even if the silence is for over a minute. CS will come back on the phone and connect you to a supervisor.

I't everything DJI says it is.

This is not my first drone, I have built them for years and fly race drones most of the time, I'm not sure I would buy this as a first drone due to the learning curve and the potential cost in a crash but if you purchase the DJI refresh care you're covered even for water damage. Other than the prolonged pre-order wait the DJI Mavic Pro delivers as expected. Rock solid even in moderate wind, I average 26 minute flight times less if just in a hover. Return to home and precision landing is spot on. I have tested all of the flight modes and they work as advertised. Read the manual and you will not experience the issues others are having. I have followed the manual to the letter and it is spot on. Don't rely on the YouTube tutorials as most of them are wrong in one way or another! Great product for DJI I highly recommend it.

Well Worth the Wait

Pre Ordered the Mavic in early December and received it about 5 weeks later. Definitely worth the wait. Amazingly easy to fly; control is so simple and smooth. Camera is great as well. First flight was in windy conditions and about -10 celcius. No issues. The mavic handled great in the cold and windy conditions. Worth every penny.

WOW!!

This is my first drone and it seems very easy to learn with all the collision detection it is pretty safe for newbies. It was worth the wait, I recommend getting an extra battery so you can fly it more :)

PreOrder

I ordered on Sept. 27 and another on Oct 7th, both as PreOrder status. I still have not received either, while others who have ordered from other suppliers at later dates are continuing to receive theirs. BB has repeatedly the expected "release date" and shipping date without any communication to me. I called on 3 occasions and all they tell me is what I see online. Last week they assured me a delivery of on on Nov. 15th. Today they changed it to OUT OF STOCK! Understanding the demand is high, BB appears to be doing nothing to assist its customers in getting better information from DJI. I will NEVER preorder anything from BB again and will now hesitate to purchase from them in the future. If you are looking for a Mavic....do NOT order from BB. I suspect I may be waiting until Jan 2017.
