I have had this watch for just over a year. In the first 2 months the watch would not sync to my phone. After a long conversation with a fitbit rep and a restart it began receiving texts for about a week and had the same issue. It has not received a text since that time as I am not about to hardboot my watch every 3-4 days.
The automatic fitness tracker has never popped up in my timei have owned it and only functions when I say I am doing a workout.
my phone no longer syncs to the watch and I would say it could be the phone except I have upgraded to the S9 and have the same issue, So the Automatic-sync function is useless and I have no tracking trending for steps sleep or otherwise unless I manually hit sync on my phone in the app. The watch also does not give me a heads up when the battery is low as a result of the above and often goes dead without notice. When I finally realize its dead, I charge in frustration and the watch turns back on at the date and time it died at and carrys on. As I type this review On Jan26, 2019 at 1140am, my watch displays the same date but the time is 0544am...
My frustrations with this so called smart watch have far outweighed the benefits and abilities this watch claims to be capable of! GIANT FAIL FitBit
I have gone though 3 of these watches since Feb.2018 it works great for the first 3 months & then everything goes Bluetooth & WIFI, Bestbuy does not take back in the store it has to be sent back through Geek Squad which is a pain.
Save yourself the trouble. In short, this watch has a shelf life of less than a year.and then will stop connecting via Bluetooth to anything. Very disappointed. Fitbit should be ashamed they released this nightmare.
The watch itself is OK easy to read data. Nice selection of display to choose.from
You need to have a smartphone AND a WIFI connection. . In some area while traveling in Europe NOT all data where transferred from the watch to the phone, when connecting to a different wifi, then missing data would be transferred.
Settings have to be done through the smartphone
My wife has the Charge 2 model. Steps on her watch are always 15 - 20 % less than mine same for distance, which is supposed to be measured by GPS. (?). setting the watch may be a challenge i.e. transferring music. Charging the battery is annoying, it has a magnetic connector.
I think it will give you an idea of your "performance" even if there s a discrepancy with the reality full price I would recommend iWatch, on sale it is ok.
Have owned 2, the Alta and now Ionic . Worst ever experience
I have the Ionic now for a little over 90 days. From the beging I had bluetooth connection issues and now I only can sync my Ionic for 2-3 hours and then need to factory reset the ionic to make her sync to my phone again. The Fitbit support is responsive but the quality is questionable. After 7 days of back and forth in troubleshooting the ionic's connection issues, still no fix and now they go back to the first attempt. Factory reset the Ionic.
Features for the value
very limited notification (if Bluetooth) is connected, can't read the whole message ,and can't load email, missing calls and appointments
Battery life is 4 days if you don't use the GPS.
Think twice if the 399 is a deal over an other brand smartwatch or fitness tracker
I am long time Fitbit owner Flex, Charge HR, Blaze and Aria) I upgraded from Blaze to Ionic because of Ionic has built-in GPS, on-board storage for music and is water proof. The first thing I noticed is the screen which is sharper and brighter than on my old Blaze. I actually got orange color which really looks cool on my hand. There is also less weight to it. Blaze must be heavier. Finally I like the styling. I actually like it better than Apple watch. In my opinion Ionic looks more contemporary and less bulky than Apple Watch. It has this nice low profile that looks great on hand. The user interface is pretty much the same as on Blaze with exception of apps and wallet which can be set up through the Fitbit app on a phone. There is some selection of apps and I am sure I will use some of them but apps are not the main reason why I bought this smart watch for. There is WAY bigger selection of clock faces on Ionic than on Blaze. Blaze has only 6 or 7 and Ionic has couple dozen or so. I also like the battery life on this smart watch which is 4 days or so and charging which got rid of docking station and only uses magnetic connector. I do get my emails, text messages, BBM, whatsup and so on on Ionic and it is again very similar to Blaze but messages are sharper and displayed on brighter screen. I cannot speak of durability of this smart watch, I am kind of worried about this beautiful orange like paint. Overall this is nice smart watch. It does everything i need and it looks awesome in the process. Also I want to mention Fitbit customer service which is excellent. This is one of the other reasons why I stayed with Fitbit for several years. I do recommend this smart watch
It's not a smartwatch...it's merely a fitness tracker/watch. The notifications are sketchy. Time doesn't always come on when I turn my wrist either.
I get text message notifications and can read them but only current, you can't keep old ones like on an Apple Watch. Only shows me emails (for one account only) but wont show the email content.
Steps are not accurate either. Don't waste your money, buy something else.
Finally there is no missed phone call notification...seriously??
I am returning given they have a 45 satisfaction policy.
Upgraded my Fitbit Charge with this Fitbit Ionic on Friday. After researching many alternatives, I selected the Ionic due to its high rating and its dedication to tracking fitness activities to assist in maintaining good health. If you want to text, read, shop and book a dentist appointment - this is not the watch for you. If you want a device that provides in-depth data about your fitness activities, sleep quality, heart rate, fitness level and can even serve as a fitness coach, then the Ionic is the best thing going. I love that it has some short workouts included on the watch that can be completed anywhere (I need to figure out how to add more of these). It is also water resistant; you can swim while wearing it. Nice feature! The detailed sleep analysis is a huge improvement on the previous Fitbits. Amazing data provided here including percentage of time in REM sleep, light sleep and deep sleep. Oh, and it also has an internal memory so you can store your playlist and connect to Bluetooth headphones (I have yet to do this). By far the best feature is the Fitbit community and the ability to connect with friends who motivate you. I love the Ionic! Highly recommend it.
I had an Apple Watch.... I liked it. The Fitbit Ionic? I LOVE it.
I always wanted to try the Fitbit, but worried I would miss the Apple Watch too much... NOPE.
The battery lasts days, and charges quickly. I am able to track my exercise and sleep - accurately. I can challenge friends who push me to get those extra one thousand or two steps in, to beat them in the weekly challenges. It's great! the ONLY thing I wish it had was the ability to reply to texts and maybe a bit of a smaller/more feminine watch size.
Today I tracked my workout on the elliptical and treadmill - and based on my stride (that it automatically set) it determined the length I had travelled - which was extremely accurate and matched what both machines read. Really impressed!
I purchased the Ionic in late November and have used it extensively for treadmill, weights and health tracking. Music loaded up relatively easily albeit it took the better part of an hour for 135 songs. Everything ran well until last night when the heart rate monitor shut down and would not restart despite all efforts and online assistance. Prince George Best Buy exchanged the unit without issue. The new unit is up and running, heart rate more accurate than last one.
Generally, a good unit for my needs.
Was really excited to try out my Ionic but when I opened the box I noticed something strange. It was the wrong product - a Blaze instead - to say that I am angry would be a huge understatement. I'm so mad.
This smart watch is extremely sleek looking with convenient features I wouldn't have thought I could get all in a little watch. Visually it's a very clean looking watch it comes with two size wrist bands and clear screen. I find it very convenient to get texts right on your wrist, track your sleep pattern, and that it's waterproof!
This is a fitness watch first and smart watch second. Works well and the build quality is extremely durable.
I wish I could amend my original post. I am getting used to it. Connection to phone is fixed (I had to remove from IPAD and reinstall on the phone first). I receive notifications from my phone no problem. Watch is light and is easy to wear. HR sometimes goes crazy (like the first 5-8 minutes of a training session) but get back to normal after. A few bugs in the software but it should be easily fixed with updates.
A lot of information on your daily activity with multiple objectives to achieve. Steps, distance, training minutes, hours where you were moving (enough), stairs climb, calories burned. Very easy to get this info on the watch, phone and the website.
I will definitely keep it.
First, I am really not impressed by those who put up reviews without trying the watch.
For me, the watch feels great. I wish I could keep the display on at all time as I hate the little delay you get when turning the watch and looking at the screen.
The screen is nice and bright.
The FITBIT environment is great to track your date.
My problems with the watch are (at this moment)
(1) Unable to link my LG G3, but I can link my IPAD Air 2. This means no txt, email or phone notifications for me (at this time).
(2) No direct payment option (in Canada?) Not impressed...
I am assuming these are glitches from a new released device. But I am quite disappointed with FITBIT (for the first time ).
I will hope for quick upgrades (I have all the current upgrades installed) and hope the fix these bugs. I will come back and upgrade this post.
And to the losers who comment without even trying, stay away!
For me fitbit is the only brand with accurate calories burn during the day. Fitbit is the way to go by far. I have tried samsung, apple and other brand. I had returned to fitbit afterall. The fitbit ionic is a perfect match for any fitness lover.
Picked up an Fitbit Ionic yesterday. Nice fitness watch but disappointed with the limitations and issues as a smartwatch. Especially if you are in Canada.
- NFC not supported in Canada
- Pandora music not available in Canada
- on device music doesn't work with iTunes Apple Music because of DRM restrictions.
- Starbucks app is supported but doesn't show up unless you change your location to US. You can change your location back to Canada after its installed.
- no ability to view calendar information other than through reminder notifications which is a basic smartwatch feature.
- buggy as well. Device locked up in shower because it was detecting water drops as touch points and none of the side buttons would work. Had to do a full soft reset to get functionality back.
All the typical Fitbit tracking features work fine. But really, not much of an improvement over the Blaze other than water proofing and GPS.
Most items will improve with updates but out of the gate, bit of a disappointment for Canadians and people looking for more smart features. I will probably still keep mine and hope that things improve quickly, but many may not want to deal with the hassles and will want to wait until it becomes more a more viable smartwatch option.
I am always willing to pay for quality. If this Ionic is as good as i think it will be; money well spent, and the best customer service hands down. If you want glitchy, cheaply made overpriced garbage, continue buying Apple products.
Because I can afford it, and if people would read the comparisons between the Ionic and competitors, they'd realize you're getting a superior fitness wearable. I'm glad it doesn't have cell service or text responses. I'm busy working out!
a lot of mixed reviews but are you kidding me almost same price as apple which is way better and only 2.5 Gb of memory it looks nice though
Just leaving this to counter the negative reivews for a product that has not even been released. FYI, I don't work for Fitbit (for obvious reason, living in Canada). BestBuy should not allow reviews for pre-orders PERIOD
THE PRICE IS RIGHT. Unless you live in a box.
I could buy an apple watch for almost the same price.
there are so many negative reviews for something that isn't released\?
compare pricing with other smartwatches. \if you really want to get ripped off buy an apple watch for way more money and 18 hours of battery life on a good day
As with all items use your head and dont trust bad reviews
Some like to preorder and have it before anyone else does. That's why it's past what you would get it for in a year, it all comes down to what you want.
This will be my 4th Fitbit. I have Blaze now and i will get the new Ionic. It will be perfect for my exercises with Fitstar and bike rides. I am looking forward to it !
Very Overpriced twice the price of a normal fit bit
Sad to say... was really looking forward to picking on up - but the cost is not even reasonable.
It's not even out yet, and can tell it's wayyyyyyyy overpriced.
