Your on-the-go lifestyle is tech heavy. Maybe you wish it wasn't. Maybe you're fine the way it is. Whatever the case, your devices need power. And until there are charging stations everywhere, you're going to need a power source. Lucky for you there's the Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus recharger.

From your smartphone to your compact digital camera, the Guide 10 Plus can charge and power them all. Recharge your USB devices from the standard USB port or give new life to your battery-powered tech with the 4 removable, rechargeable AA batteries. And if the Guide 10 Plus runs out of juice, simply hook up a Goal Zero solar panel or plug it into your computer to charge it up.

What you need to know:

  • Direct charging: The Guide 10 Plus has 2 ways to power your devices: standard USB port with 5V, up to 1A, or with 4 rechargeable AA batteries.
  • Charges most devices: This recharger can charge USB devices with low power needs, including smartphones, action cameras, headlamps, handheld GPS units, and more. Charging a device with the Guide 10 Plus takes the same amount of time to charge as it does from the wall.
  • AA convenience: The included set of 4 AA batteries can be used directly in battery-powered devices such as headlamps, flashlights, cameras, and more. The included AAA battery adapter allows you to charge up to 4 AAA batteries (not included).
  • Battery capacity: This recharger has a capacity of 11 watt-hours (Wh) (11V, 5,200mAh), offering power for charging a variety of devices. A headlamp uses 4Wh for up to 2 charges; a smartphone uses 5 to 7Wh for a single full charge; a GoPro uses 5Wh for up to 2 charges; a digital camera uses 8Wh for a single charge; and it can give your tablet up to a 25% boost.
  • Powering the power pack: Charge the Guide 10 Plus in 6 to 10 hours via the mini USB input port.
  • Store the sun for later: You can also use a Goal Zero solar panel to charge the Guide 10 Plus, but charging times will vary: Nomad 7, 3 to 6 hours; and Nomad 13 or 20, 2.5 to 5 hours (each sold separately).
  • Portable design: Compact and weighing only 181g (0.4lb.), the Guide 10 Plus can go with you anywhere.
  • Charge in the dark: A built-in LED light on the front makes it easy to charge your devices when it gets dark.

If the Guide10 has a failing, it is the fact that all (4) slots need to be populated for this charger to work. A unit like the Powertraveller Powerchimp 4A has the upper hand, as it can charge anywhere between 1-4 batteries at a time, and can also be a mix of AA and AAA. Good enough to keep small flashlights, headlights, radios and walkie talkies fed, yet make sure to purchase another pack or two of NiMH batteries to keep a full rotation going.

This is a good item to have when camping, hunting, emergency situations or even at home. Most of my equipment needing a power source takes AA batteries ( GPS, flashlights, emergency broadcast/weather radio etc. ). Because of the amount of batteries I have, this is the second Goal Zero charger I've purchased. I was able to fully charge the batteries in approximately 6 hours with my X-Dragon 3 panel solar panel (20w). It has two USB ports so on a full day of sun, I can charge 8 AA's at a time, using both chargers. Although the batteries add some weight to the "to go bag", to have the power source in an emergency, I think, is well worth it.
