It's a very good laptop!

25 Aug 2017: I bought my unit (on sale) from a Bestbuy store (several trips to different stores to find it, reserving one online then going to pick up at another store). Having used this for several weeks, I can say that I am very satisfied with my purchase. The specs are on point for my personal use. The cooling fans stay off and come on when handling bigger-than-usual tasks and/or multiple tabs. The screen display is beautiful, although it is a huge fingerprint holder & very reflective at certain angles. Clean the screen regularly and you will be fine. The hinges are kinda loose so sudden and significant jerks or shakes can cause the screen to fall backward flat (it's a 2-in-1 after all). The speakers sound great and can be tweaked to your desired taste. Bluetooth accessories connect easily. From experience, this feature may stay good or break with "updates" in the months ahead. Either USB type C ports can be used to charge the laptop. I had a battery life of 4.5hrs with mid brightness, volume at 40%, streaming youtube videos (background music) and using the internet for work, facebook, shopping, etc. It held up pretty good IMO. The edges around the laptop can be really sharp. I cut myself one time while the back of my finger ran down the side. :) I like my laptop & I'm happy with my purchase.

Too Many Issues - Going to return to Best Buy today

A very compact and well constructed system that needs some software improvements before it is ready for the market. Initial updates are to be expected; however, this laptop had too many and required support from the first day as the HP Assistant software required assistance from the HP Support team to complete a firmware update. Once that was done and all seemed okay, an attempt to update the HPs latest touchpad drivers, (Version: Rev.B, File: sp80167.exe (181.5 MB)), did not work correctly, resulting in the touchpad not working at all. HP support was able to assist in getting the new driver installed and seemed to get it working okay; however, once they were off the line, the HP Assistant software kept saying that a restart was required. The only way I was able to resolve that was by going back to a previous restore point and using the original Touchpad driver. The problems with updates and the instability of the Touchpad software were significant issues that may have been able to be overcome with further assistance from HP Support; however, the inability of several Apps that I use regularly to scale to readable sized fonts on this laptop's high resolution screen left me with no choice but to set the screen to 1600 x 900 resolution. There is no point in paying this price for the high resolution screen if the laptop can't scale all apps to function reasonably on its highest resolution setting.

Great look and performance, minor issues

This laptop is a beast. 2 small issues: Battery life is 3-4h while using internet and Word, unless youre on power saver mode, then it is around 6h. Also, the fan is noticeable.

Excellent premium laptop

HP is really outdoing themselves on the premium portable front. This is an amazing computer. Gorgeous colours and accents. The screen is really something with the high resolution and brightness. Windows apps still have some catching up to do though. Some older apps don't scale their interface well and some bits can be really tiny. Most recent apps are fine and scale well. An excellent mix of ports. One "old-style" USB port is fine. Having 2 USB Type-C is good. Better would have been if both of them were Thunderbolt. Nice having a dedicated full-sized HDMI port so I don't have to use a dongle to connect to (most) projectors. Keyboard feel is excellent as is the silky-smooth and responsive trackpad. A negative is the size of the power brick. I guess they needed a beefy one (90 W) in order to power up all those batteries (they being needed to drive that glorious large, hi-res screen), but the brick really is big for a portable computer. Nice long cord on it though. Seems very peppy and I notice in my image editing software how much a difference it makes to have dedicated video RAM. Highly recommended!

It burnt my finger

At first, the laptop seemed great, it was fast, decently quite, the screen was amazing quality, and the keyboard felt great. Until about 15 minutes later when I decided to play a not really demanding game (Sonic Generations) and the laptop got so hot that it literally burned to the touch. Maybe it was just my model, but I returned this the next day and didn't not get a replacement.

Lovely laptop

It's only been a few days since I purchased the HP Spectre x360 15.6" model and so far it has been a great experience. The VIP sale from Best Buy sealed the deal for me as I've been looking for an ultrabook laptop for a while now. This laptop has all of the features I need for present day home office business computing while offering future-proofing features for future consideration (i.e. Thunderbolt 3). I didn't think I really needed the 4K display but after using it for a while have come to really appreciate the quality (only downside is that it is a glossy display so there is reflection issues to deal with; minor downside though). I love the tactile feel of the keyboard the backlighting is adequate for low light use. One criticism that I have is the hinge assembly for the display is a bit weak so any vibration will move the display around a bit more than I would like. I suppose this is to compensate for the ability of the display to be folded into tablet or tent mode (it's a trade-off I'm willing to accept). Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase and hope that it will serve me well over the years to come.

Man, this is such a sweet machine. It is by far the best looking laptop out there. Not to mention the performance and the entire package. I reviewed this particular model for few days, cons and pros and finally exchanged my 13" MacBook Pro with TouchID and Touchbar with this Cadillac. I cant say enough about this laptop to convince you. You have got to experience it yourself to realize how sweet this is. I'm completely impressed and happy that I got this. The performance, the details, the look and specifications are unmatched. Highly recommended and love the fact that comes with pen and pouch. The pen is really precise and writes smoothly. Good job HP.

Oh HP you blew it by only adding one USB port. I plug in my mouse then can't plug anything else in and use memory sticks a lot. Grrrrrr! Otherwise, this is GEM. Tried Microsoft Surface Pro and others and this is a true winner. LOVE IT but, that USB issue.... not happy.

This is truly is a beauty and a beast.

So let me start of by saying, I was researched a lot before I made up my mind on this laptop. I went through YouTube reviews, user reviews from various websites and of course notebook reviews online. It was a split between this and the Dell XPS 15, and I went ahead and picked the Dell. HOWEVER, oh boy was I wrong. The dell was trash. Right out the box I suffered with network cards and screen bleeding. Not something you would want to have to go through when you pay 2k for a laptop. Gave that back and went to to bestbuy and picked this baby up. I am in love with this laptop. It's blazing fast thanks to the i7 and SSD. It looks gorgeous in this ash color with the gold accents and it's lightweight, even lighter than the macbook pro 15 (imo). The touchscreen is good, don't expect it to be a surface tablet because it isn't. I didn't buy it for it's touchscreen capabilities but it's decent. The scrolling is fine, the touch capabilities are good as well. When logging in, it has the window's hello feature that scans your face and let's you in. Now let me tell you, it isn't perfect. At first it never registered my face which was a bummer so I went through the set-up once again and figured I would let some natural light into my room before I captured the features of my face and it worked! Never had an issue ever since which is great! The keyboard is soild, I love the clicking noises it makes everytime I type. The synaptics mouse pad is great as well as long as you go in to the settings and change the settings to your liking. The SSD is great! Make sure you go ahead and pick up the Samsung SSD as this laptop ships out with the EVO 950 and a cheaper Toshiba SSD which is known to have issues. The graphics card is an Nvidia 940 MX which is used mainly for autocad rendering/photoshop/video editing. Don't expect video games to play on peak settings and without lag because this graphics card wasn't made for that. The display is a crisp 4k display which makes HD movies and videos look absolutely stunning. I would recommend investing in a USB bar since this has only one usb slot. The speakers are great too, real loud, haven't gone about 50% volume since they're that loud. The laptop is real quiet. The fan turns on maybe once in a while when I use apps like word 2016 or autocad or photoshop. Stays on for about 5 mins before turning off again. I was told this has dual fans which is great since the laptop stays cool on your laptop if you want to relax on the bed and watch a movie on that great screen. Overall, absolute beauty and would for sure recommend it to anyone and everyone!
