Good Laptop

Bought this laptop one month ago. Very nice laptop with the price. With this price don't expect super high performance. It's a budget laptop.

Solid Computer

Got this laptop on sale and it was a great deal for the price. Very fast and boots from a complete shutdown in seconds. A little bit of bloatware comes on the computer as is normal on most these days but 10 minutes of uninstalling when I bought it and it has been great since. Able to easily stream and surf the internet and loads everything in the blink of an eye. I have not tried any gaming on this device.

Would give 0 stars. Do not buy!

This laptop is horrible for it's price. It is horrible in general. With an Intel 8th gen I5 processor, you would expect a fast, clean and crisp performance, however those expectations are out of the window. If you enjoy waiting for a decade, then this computer is for you. Take a sip of coffee, write a short paragraph or even read a page of a book while this thing loads. Not only that, it heats up very quickly. In about a minute, the right bottom side of this laptop is quite warm to the touch. Another issue is that this laptop is incapable of multitasking. To bring forth an example, when I was using it for simple tasks such as surfing google chrome, listening to spotify, and drawing on an online website, it completely crashed. It was only TEN DAYS old. When I powered it back on, it was slower than my ten year old bulky Compaq that I kept in the basement. I tried the reset option which wiped all the data off the laptop and re-installed windows, but it was the same, if not worse. So, I went back and returned it at best buy and got the same brand new model to give it one more chance. It was slower than the first, and started glitching within the first hour that I used it. I have returned that one, and I'm never going to purchase an HP model ever again. The only pro I would give this is it's large amount of storage space. The resolution is absolute trash, and you can individually see the very small pixels making up the text and pages on the screen. Battery life is even worse. By just browsing the internet, it lasted about 2.3 hours. Overall, I would never recommend this laptop to anyone. If you value your money and overall performance of a laptop, DO NOT BUY.

Really good for the price

This laptop is really nice for the price. It includes a 4 core 8 thread processor with a turbo at just over 3 GHz. I use it for streaming (which it does really good at encoding h264 at slow settings), light gaming, (when I'm not at my gaming pc) school work, and more. It includes Intel Optane memory (which cannot be used as storage by the way) which makes it really snappy and quick and has the feel of an SSD; if you haven't used an SSD before you would think this extremely fast comparatively, in fact, it boots only 5 seconds slower than my Samsung 860 Evo on my gaming pc and although you would notice the difference in file transfers and read and write speeds, for general purposes, it does a good job. However, it also has an m.2 NVMe support slot if you don't think its fast enough. In addition, it also has an extra slot for expandable ddr4 ram. however, for its use, 8gb is more than enough. My only gripe about this laptop would be a couple of things; first, it doesn't have any dedicated graphics (which I would expect at this price anyway), and it has a pretty crappy display (768p). coming from a 1080p monitor I can definitely tell the difference, its not the best, but for what its used for its good enough. So, if you are looking for a decent screen, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a laptop for work, school, or just browsing the web, this is really good.

Very Good deal! Nice and Small. Good built quality.

Bought this for only 599.99 before taxes. Although only 16GB Optane drive, it does speeds up the windows bootup time by a lot (10 seconds bootup). Tested disablling the Optane Drive and the bootup speed slows to a crawl, just what you would expect from a normal magnetic spinning harddisk. If this 16GB Optane drive ever fails, easily can buy a cheaper 256GB PCIE/NVME SSD and replace it (probably costs 70 bucks or less in a year or two). Amazing speed. I formatted the harddisk and re-installed Windows 10 using a USB 3.0 flash drive (don't like unwanted HP software pre-installed), only took maximum 15 minutes to install. Impressive. The only thing not good is that the two USB 3.1 connection ports are too near each other. If you have thicker USB connectors, will not fit 2 at the same time. Only solution is to buy a USB expansion hub. The screen display is above average. Keyboard is nice to press. Most laptop manufacturers started removing the power, harddisk LED and Caps Lock indicator lights at this price point, but HP did not, plus point. Nothing to complain about...awesome purchase.

Excellent budget laptop

I purchased this on sale for 599 and that was a steal. Super quiet and a very good bang for your buck. You get an i5-8250 gen8 intel processor which is vastly superior to the 7th gen. 8gb ram, up-gradable to 16gb. Also allows for an ssd upgrade if you really find it to start up slow However the 16gb optane memory doesnt seem like it lags too much at all. screen resolution could of course be better, but considering its a 14 inch screen, it is by no means terrible. love hp!
