Problem starting up

This is my 3rd laptop since boxing day. I returned the first one because the battery drained in less than an hour, they gave a new one, same model, two weeks later, the power button won't turn on, I plug it in, it turned on. So took it back, they gave another one, now it's been about 3 weeks, this morning I pressed the power button, it wouldn't start, I plugged it in, it started, the battery was 100% charged. I like this laptop, i'ts good, fast, nice but I don't know why it's doing this.

Absolute piece of garbage

Don't buy it. I bought a few months ago and have been on the phone with support on an on-going basis trying to fix: 1) computer freezes, 2) screen doesn't turn on after idling, it just shows a blank screen, but clearly the computer is on and STRUGGLING so i'd have to hit the power button to reset, 3) when left on, it would turn on and off, over and over again...the motor or whatever it is, is so incredibly loud and annoying like it's possessed, 4) upon turning on, Chrome just FREEZES..it's ABSOLUTELY slow. I have done a factory reset AND RE-INSTALLED WINDOWS 10. They have garbage hardware parts, clearly..seems they put used parts in mine and they won't accept the fact that this is a faulty computer just because the computer passed all diagnostic hardware tests. Absolute garbage, save your money. I will never ever buy another HP laptop again. Sheer garbage.

Don't go for it - Screen got damage in 6 months

Hi, I bought this laptop from best buy on 1st July as far as I remember. The laptop was under offer and I was getting discount of 200 CAD. Initially, the laptop was slow and sometimes could hear some background sound as if there is problem in circuit. But, I thought this might be normal. After 6 months, I found it's screen stopped working. I reported to HP and they said the screen is broken. I was shocked because it was not mishandled by me at any point of time. Now HP is asking 298 CAD for changing screen which is half the laptop price.I can see there is similar review by Nicholas and m pretty sure he must have bought this under offer. My strong recommendation is never buy this laptop since it has several problems and HP will never take it as manufacturing defect. And never buy anything which has discount. Thanks.

Great specs for a good price, but it's built for business (and students)

I bought this in December. This laptop has been an absolute dream. First off, this laptop is most certainly built for business and business professionals. Coming with Microsoft Office pre-downloaded was nice, however you'll still have to buy a license or log in with your already paid account to use it. It also comes pre-installed with a LinkedIn app, and the design is an elegant, professional, clean design. So just make sure you know what you're getting into! This is a powerful, quick laptop but not for gaming. Quick and snappy, the touchscreen is excellent, and Windows updates haven't slowed it down noticeably. The i5 processor, 8gb ram and 1tb hard drive means that this laptop will probably stay quick in the future as software continues to become bigger and need more powerful machines. Is this overkill for just internet browsing? Maybe, but it's very future-proof and will last you a long time. The screen is big enough to have two Word documents up side-by-side at 100% zoom. Speaking of Word, it loads Office programs in under ten seconds! Though Excel can take a bit longer. It has a dedicated, separate right-click button on the trackpad, and has enough USB ports and an HDMI port for hookup to TV's/projectors. The fullsize numberpad is also a nice touch you don't usually see on laptops! However it does have some drawbacks. The arrow keys are so annoying! The up and down arrow are half-size and take up the spot of a single key. Why!? They should have just made the right Shift key less wide to fit that up arrow! This also came pre-installed with quite a bit of bloatware from HP. Granted it wasn't Lenovo levels of crapware slowing it down, but definitely Google some of those built-in HP apps to see which ones you can uninstall. There is also a lack of a discrete graphics card so sorry gamers, this isn't a good gaming rig. I do however play older games such as Minecraft, Skyrim and Garry's Mod with few issues other than some choppy framerates. I assume you could play some light Esports titles like CS:GO, but you definitely won't be playing any new AAA titles. Overall this is a perfect laptop for professionals and students! Good allrounder that will do everything you ask of it, except play performance-intensive games.

Keyboard is this notebook not up to par.

The keyboard is not smooth, I could feel the etching of the letters. This why I did not buy it. HP has a good keyboard on the Envy m6 (a 6 years old model). Rating should go to 4 for those with tougher fingers (no carpal tunnel).

Lightweight, Very Good General Use Laptop

Used for a couple of months and it is a very solid laptop. It is very light and slim for a 15" laptop. Not a burden at all when taking it on a longer trip with flight stop overs.

1 year old.. so far so good.

Bought this in Sept. 2017. This is a middle of the road laptop. Not the greatest, but not the worse. At the very beginning, I hit a major snag with automatic Microsoft updates. Laptop became extremely slow after updates. They were not compatible with this particular HP model. I contacted HP and Microsoft. No response from both!! So I rolled back the system and figured out a way to block updates through the registry until they both got their act together. This is a Windows 10 Home edition, not Pro. Eventually, things worked out. I like the touch screen feature and the display is nice and crisp. The audio is pretty good as well. This laptop is a for on-line shopping, browsing, home office/ home school work, photo editing , light to medium video editing and streaming. That is it. If you want to play high-end games, forget it. Spend the money. If you want to travel with it, either buy an expensive well padded case or leave it home. This is a very fragile laptop. I would not recommend dragging this around...especially for school. I gave this 3 stars simply because HP & Microsoft do not consider responding to simple after sales inquires regarding software issues. I did not have this problem with their competitors.

Terrible, terrible Product

NEVER, EVER BUY AN HP PRODUCT! THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A HOLD OF ANYONE IN SUPPORT AND WHEN YOU DO IT'S ALL ANSWERS FROM A BOOK. HAD A LAP TOP FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THE SCREEN JUST STOPPED WORKING. THEY CLAIM IT'S BEEN DAMAGED AND NOT COVERED UNDER STANDARD WARRANTY. I NEVER DROPPED THE LAPTOP SO NOT SURE HOW IT'S MY FAULT. THEY HAD IT NOW FOR THE LAST 3 WEEKS AND UNLESS I CALLED THEM THEY WERE JUST HOLDING IT THERE. THE COST TO FIX THE SCREEN IS HALF OF WHAT I PAID FOR THE LAPTOP. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?!

Dull Screen, Hard Drive

Having a hard drive takes away from the speed of the 8th Gen i5 Processor. Text looks fuzzy on the low resolution touchscreen.

Good laptop

Bought 2 for my staff and upgraded to SSD right away, HDD is just limiting the potential of the nice 8th gen chip. Only disappointment is with the low screen resolution but overall its a good laptop at a decent price.

Very good with work, school and small-medium games

been using this for now a few days now, and i can say that this is one of the best Laptop when being on sale. Works very well for work or school, very smooth and reactive to your fingers or mouse. Works very well for Small-Medium games, but is only ok-ish for the very big ones. Overall a great Laptop for working/going to school and relaxing with some games after that hard day of yours! 5/5 Stars!

Didnt work out

Just had to return this laptop after having it for only a day. Slower than expected, and given the multitude of issues I had within the first 5 hours of owning the laptop the customer service representative deemed it a 'faulty computer'

Great value if you're into cpu power and all else secondary

8th gen cpu 4 real cores x HT = 8 The huge cache spinning disk is ok, but you will want to add a PCIE NVME m.2 as your primary boot disk. Battery life is not bad I expect it to improve when I remove the spinning disk Screen is not great or very bright. Plays many games (at low res) my 6th gen won't :Alien Isolation, Fallout 4, Really great networking, bluetooth, wifi all flawless. USB 3 type c is just window dressing all speed but no charging from your brick. Surprisingly well documented at HP https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06060661 Bought 2 for the family a couple months ago still happy.. Would be a 5 with nicer screen and SSD.

Great Budget Laptop

Had to replace yet another well-known branD so I went back to old faithful, HP. I didn't want to spend a lot so I purchased this model. While it may not have a backlit keyboard, SSD or 4k resolution, it's fast, with a battery that lasting over 4 hours while working @ full display brightness and listening to music (not just in stand-by).
