Don't waste your money

So I purchased this laptop after reading many reviews, and doing some research. I had it for about a week and noticed the "9 hour battery life" that is advertised was more like 4 hours if I was lucky. The left button on the touch pad was always getting stuck down and the speaker only worked when it wanted to. I assumed based on the reviews that I must have gotten a lemon so I exchanged it for another one. I had to wait a week without a laptop because the new one had to be shipped from the other side of the county. I have had my new one for less than a week now and the battery is worse on this one i'm lucky to have 2 hours, the touch pad buttons stick as well and on this one the space bar only works if you hit it in the middle which makes typing incredibly frustrating. Also the touch screen on this one is not very sensitive. I will be returning this one and purchasing something entirely different.

At least some Guts, but there is no Glory here.

Hp's marketing team is trying hard to up sell this as a premium unit, its far from that, too many design flaws for my taste. The sunken keyboard for one is a trap for dust and spilled coffee to collect. The textured silver metallic finished quasi-aluminum case is also susceptible to scratches, and collecting dust and finger print oil residue - good luck to me trying to keep it clean, or anyone else for that matter. The hinge is just odd with the attached back flap that raises the bottom of the unit when its in use. I think I'll get used to that over time. Hp brags about the small bezel but once you start using the unit, you really notice the black frame that hangs around the screen it's nearly 3/4" of an inch of wasted screen space. The Bang & Olufsen speakers are nothing great, and only sound semi-palpable when they are in movie mode. I do not recommend them for listening to music, even for short periods of time. Here's the one thing that you need to understand about this Envy more than anything else, the monitor is indeed full HD. That said, all the content that you will ever see or utilize off the internet will never be HD, even Netflix's HD is compressed 1080p, so when you end up viewing it its not even close to 720p. If you're buying to watch movies buy a TV instead. So what's the point of having an HD touch screen like this one. Well the DVD player will show you adequate HD quality on this Hp 1600 x 1080, but it won't play Blu-ray, beyond that don't expect much. The heavy touch screen glass darkens all the dark colours, and it seems that Hp over compensated for that fact by making the screen aggressively bright. Yes you can control the colour, the warmth, and the brightness, but be prepared to set up multiple screen profiles in order to accommodate the different situations you'll be in, one for rainy and overcast - indoors, one for bright and sunny - indoors, and outdoors, one for night time viewing, with and without ambient lighting, and so on. The screen is not pleasant on the eyes either, meaning don't expect to be sitting in front of it for long periods of time. This is my mistake, I purchased it to use for photo and video editing, and to use it for AutoCad, and 3D modeling. And I have been unable to sit in front of this Hp Envy 17" screen for more than 2-1/2 hours without my eyes going buggy. I suspect they could maybe fix a part of that problem if they could allow the screen's frequency to change from 60Hrz to 80Hrz. I'll give it some marks for the machines internal guts, (cpu 8th gen Intel i7 - A+, memory 16gb A+) here at least I know it has the raw power to run the software I'm using, the one change I will be making is adding a solid state drive, the current 1TB 7,200 rpm just won't cut it for anything other than a storage unit for renderings and photo files. Respectfully this may be a laptop, but no one is going to be lugging around an unruly 17" laptop that weight close to 7 lbs. I haven't even decided if I'm keeping this puppy.... or sending it back to the open-box pound.

I Love this laptop!

I've had this laptop for over a year now and haven't had any problems. Easy to set up, works well with Windows 10, touch screen is amazing. I'll buy another one if this one ever dies - HP meets/exceeds expectations once again :)

It's a powerful laptop but not that portable

Pro: you can say it has the advantages of a laptop and a powerful computer. It can play some "big" games like Assassin's Creed with no problem, and the screen if big, full keyboard, battery life is decent, and at the same time it is portable. Con: it's quite heavy for a laptop, you can't carry it around easily.

Nice overall but with a few defects

As a student. I would strongly recommend this product. I had been using it for 1 month. The shape of this computer was beautiful; the 17.3'' FHD touch screen was really cool; it has a not-bad voice production with the B&O speaker; the keyboard was quite comfortable, and it could provide with a performance of "six-key-without-red", which helps when you play games. I would say the performance was enough for me to play some big online games, but maybe not enough for those guys who play “stand-alone-games" for most of the time. The reason why I choose this laptop was also because of it has a ROM Driver, which could help with some CD playing in Club, also it enables chances for adding another hard drive onto the laptop if you really need. However, I had exchanged it for once because of it's dead pixels, and now the one I am typing on has some on cutting precision especially for those "holes" for the speaker; also, there is one key had a granule on it which might be the problem of painting if you are a really perfectionism (like me) just be aware of that. For battery life, if you don't play games that'll probably lasts for 7 hrs, but if you play games all the time, that would probably be less than 3 hrs... If you are a girl, I don't think the weight of this product is very friendly to you, because it weights for more than 3 kgs, which is god damn heavy; and if you limited space, you might feel a 17.3'' laptop is too big for you. Anyway, good overall, but still needs some improvement.
