Long time PC user who went to the ultrabook world and also Apple world for a few years, I wanted to go back to a PC laptop that can be a true PC desktop replacement, and still maintaining a decent compact package in size and weight for mobile purpose. Gaming performance is very satisfying with for example recent Doom (2016) running fine in all settings. Battery life is good if power mode "best battery life" is selected: around 6 hours of office use, always nice to have if you intend to do some work without a power plug. Not selected, you end up with a classic gaming laptop battery life around 3 hours. Which is to be expected considering the power it delivers. HP must have done an excellent job at optimizing the thing on battery saver. Needless to mention that Windows 10 runs like a charm. Build quality is very good, although my unit has some sharp edges at the bottom under the left and right sides, where the top panel and the back panel meet. Nothing to worry on the top where your palm rests, so it does not affect me that much. Keyboard is large, responsive with a fairly decent amount of key travel, along with obviously customized led/color. Touchpad is very good except for the two finger scrolling that I have disabled. Good selection of ports is to be noted, included a very futureproof Thunderbolt 3. Talking about futureproof, HP is tooting that you can upgrade some components through the back panel. In a nutshell, main strengths is ratio size / power.

I tried a comparable ASUS and a Dell before finally landing on this HP Omen. I have previously happily owned ASUS and Dell, but sadly their quality seems to be very low this generation. The HP Omen was the only one that delivered on build quality, performance and overall experience. It's smaller, has a better screen and mostly a better design. The one star lost here is only due to the rear facing ports and right-hand power port. I wish all ports were on the sides and that the power was on the left. Mostly subjective as others may like that, but for me, it's a bit of a negative. Otherwise, great machine overall.

Owned it for less than a day, but so far tempts are great, fans noise is good, performance is insane. Really glad I made this purchase so far.
