BEST BUY BUYER BEWARE: Please do not listen to sales pitches from anyone else besides Geek Squad employees. Sales representatives and other employees have proved that they know nothing about the products; quite literally taking me to computers without graphics cards and telling me the computer is the best for gaming.
Geek Squad employee took me to the HP Pavilion and said it's one of the best portable laptops with a 7th Gen Core i5 (8th Gen was only released October 2017).
- Computer is really sleek and light
- Keys have amazing spacing for users with big hands
- B&O speakers making the sound loud with good quality
- Flips around nicely to tablet mode, screen is very responsive
- Computer material is comfortable to the wrist and palm when typing
- Keys feel very responsive, not as good as Apple Mac
- Dead pixels are noticeable at the bottom of the screen
- Reviews show included stylus, this package didn't include one
- HP computers are known to crash a lot (hasn't happened to me yet)
I owned a Dell NB and it had to be replaced under warranty through BB. My 2 biggest requirements were a backlit KB and AC Adpator on the right side of the NB. I was not left with many choices. Dell was out of contention and the others were at a high price point. This X360 so far has been very a decent performer. The bootup is fast, plenty of options,quiet and seems sturdy.
Few things to improve would be:
1. Touchpad clicks are little too loud.
2. KB backlight should have a dim mode.
3. 13.3 in screen size option
So I have had this laptop for less than a month, no issues but come the third week of ownership I have begun to experience some issues. I also noticed others are experiencing the same issue as me. Where the lap top goes into these states of black out(its happened twice) where the only way to resolve this issue is a "hard rest" which as you may no wipes all apps. I got this lap top to be my trusty reliable computer that can get me through college and I now am hesitant each time I open it that i may lose everything. Good thing it happened this early as I only lost a few thing but i couldn't imagine writing a long paper and this occurring. So far its happened twice once on the 16th and on the 17th BACK TO BACK. It makes it difficult for me to achieve anything since all my work is online. If this black out happens once more(the third time) I am taking it back to my local best buy. Good laptop for its features but at least in my case it severely lacks in reliability.
A pretty good laptop for this price range. The trackpad is large with decent travel. The keys have a good response without it being too mushy like the MacBook. Not the lightest but nowhere near being a heavy laptop. The 14in screen doesn't feel too small nor too big. The Achilles Heel is the battery. I usually averaged around 6 hours of medium use before I needed it to top it up. I suggest you look for other laptops around this price range if you're looking for a laptop with good battery life. If you don't mind the battery life, this is a good laptop to consider.
So far, very pleased. Love the backlit keyboard. Nice and compact. A great laptop for school.
I have had none of these issues that people have posted below. The only problem that I had was trying to uninstall McAfee Anti virus software as I purchased the Bitdefender.
Went back to Best buy and had no problems with help. They also took off most of the pre-loaded junk that came on the computer for me as well.
Great speed, great response to commands easy to use.
The only thing I wish HP did was to have a styles pen included with the computer. That is the only minus I have so far.
I bought this laptop on sale 10 days ago. During the first day I had to familiarize myself with windows 10 which went relatively well. After 2 days I had my first problem having to force a shut down (hard to believe that I was already doing that). But I thought it could've been me and the new windows 10.
Well the same thing happened twice after that and I thought of giving it a last chance and then... it froze up!
On my way to return it now....

Bought this for my son, he played it for fews days. So far so good, nice design, high tech. It is easy to set up; only thing is hard drive so small, 256 SSD.
Bought the laptop yesterday . Spent over 2 hours listening to the sales rep and was told this laptop also came with a free stylus . Assumed it was in the box . But Lo behold , on opening the box NO STYLUS. Called Bestbuy and were now told this laptop does not come with a stylus.
Was it a sales pitch to entice us and how do we now trust all the information shared for us to make the decision to buy the laptop versus others was True.
It's a great computer but the fan is so friggen loud it sounds like a small jet is trying to take off whenever i stream video....wtf is happening here even.
I love it other than this. I'd return it if I could.
I purchased this last week, got it home and it was DOA. Returned to BB the next day for an exchange. Got the second one set up, but noticed the screen was blurry for most things except for text. Tried to connect to office wifi today and it wouldn't work. Then noticed touchscreen didn't work. Spent two hrs with HP support who did everything from update bios, a hard restart, reinstalled drivers and nothing was successful. So they tried to get me to send the laptop back for servicing and I might get it back in two weeks or two months. No thank you.
What are the odds two defective units in a row?
I loved my HP EliteBook, but this Pavillion has been a huge waste of time.
