- Fit Dell 760 Optiplex ok, but no ventilation holes- April 8, 2019
As others have noted, there are few mounting hole options, but I was lucky in that they were ok for the tray mount in my Optiplex 760 desktop - i.e. 2 of 4 inside pegs on the tray fitting (tightly) into tray side holes are adequate to hold such a lightweight drive. My issue was that the Optiplex tray bracket includes a fan that blows up at the bottom of the drive, which is good for a full-size HDD, but not so important for an SSD (I think). Still, I wanted the fan to be unimpeded by the solid bottom surface of the Insignia adapter tray, so I ended up drilling several 3/8" holes to allow that. Might be good for longer life of SSD, and should not hurt it. See attached pics.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Bad design - Not universal for HDD mounting- May 8, 2021
The bracket appears well made, however it did not work for me and I returned it. 3.5" HDD's have two mounting methods that I can determine. One method uses (4) threaded holes on the back of the drive itself. If this is what yours uses, then just attach the SDD directly using only 2 screw as 2 of them will line up. The bracket is not needed. The other method uses mounting screws on the side of the HDD. Mine has 3 threaded holes per side (6 total) but was mounted using only 2 screw per side. The bracket does not accommodate this method. Ultimately, I found two locations on the PC chassis where I could install 2 screws to attach the SDD to and didn't use any bracket. No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
- Doesn't work for all applications- October 26, 2020
It's not as simple as the multitude of reviews here that say "it's a piece of metal how could it not work dude". If you need an adapter to fit a 2.5" drive inside of 3.5" rails that go into a backplane, or if you are placing a 2.5" drive in a system that has fixed connectors on a board - this adapter will not work. The positioning of the power and SATA connector are slightly to the side of where they would be on a real 3.5" drive, so this adapter won't work for you. I needed an adapter for a drive inserted in such a backplane, so this didn't work for me. Will be fine for the home market with plain PCs and SATA cables but I hope this review will save someone a wasted purchase. No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
