Not too great

Performance with windows apps is not too bad. Wifi signal is very weak - router is in the next room and loses connection. Screen sensitivity is not great - need a stylus to manage the small windows boxes. It wouldn't be too bad, but the wifi makes it almost unusable. I would recommend spending more and getting something functional, unless the wifi is not an issue for you.

Don't buy it. Waste your time to return it.

It is using older version of Windows 10 which is need to be updated by Microsoft but it will always have the error that "the system reserved partition cannot be update". Without latest Windows security update, your windows will be unsafe and the update will also run and fail automatically each time to slow your PC down while you are using it. If you can run Defragment on the Recovery partition, your PC should be fine to have the latest Windows update.

The value for the price is amazing!

I searched all Windows tablets available, in North America, made by all manufacturers and this is the most powerful 8-inch tablet that exist. It's also more powerful than most 10.1-inch tablets, but it costs 2 to 4 times less than the competition. I used the microSD slot to put in a 128GB card that has write speed (not read speed) above 80MB/s and used it as a second hard drive to install games. I contacted manufacturers to convert my 10-year old games to digital versions and bought some more from the better known digital distributors on the internet; some of which have lists of fully touch-compatible games. Know that this tablet has its limitations and it won't run the latest and greatest games, but if you check your specs, there are other or older games that are very much worth a stop.

Buy this if you want it to last 6 months

For the first 6 months, it was a very impressive deal. It was fast, the touchscreen was very responsive, and it did more than I had expected the day I picked it up. Unfortunately, that didn't last. The area under the Windows logo button now becomes extremely hot every time the device is powered on, and the screen no longer works at all. Essentially, this is now a piece of junk. Do NOT buy if you want something to last you several years!

worst tablet ever

Do not think about buying it - Terribly slow (as I write this review it lag sometime) - The touch screen feel not soft to touch and you have to press harder to write sometime. - Has windows, I am used to android, but even IPad is more friendly to used. - not easy to use and raging

Windows tab

I am Planing on getting one of these because of my old samsung tablet which is slow so i might get this for christmas

  • from Port Coquitlam, BC

very low performance in most areas

Bought it for the kids on a road trip. Mistake. Battery takes forever to charge, doesn't last long either. It won't connect to other devices to extract photos and the touch screen isn't very accurate. Would not recommend.

Can't get better for this price

Like any of my windows 10 hardware , i had to tweak and strip a couple of the annoying 'features'. Once tweaked the battery life had been improved. Everything work fine. Surprised how smooth this tablet run for this price range. Really love to have a full os with desktop on a tablet.

Had to Return It

Nice little tablet (if it had kept working). V nice display and audio (thru headphones only - built in speaker audo quality poor). Touch screen a bit balky at times (repeated taps necessary and some icons too small on this size screen) but not a big issue IMO. Problem was the network adapter driver suddenly disappeared after I had the unit for a couple of weeks (and I have seen this issue mentioned in other reviews, usually associated with a Windows update). Factory reset (which was all Insignia tech support seemed able to suggest) did not help so took the thing to Geek Squad. They too were unable to help other than to offer a refund (no exchange units were available). If I had had the thing beyond the 14 day refund period I would have been SOL other than paying Geek Squad who knows how much to repair it. Not good.

Great tablet except for cameras!!

I just tried this tablet out for a few days and had to return it because of the poor quality cameras (5mp auto focus on back, 2mp Fixed Focus on front). The front "selfie" camera produces very grainy photos. Both cameras produce photos that are almost without any colour at all. Not sure if thats the cameras or the apps problem. This is the first Windows tablet I've tried and I really like it (other than the cameras). Everything else seemed to work great. I bought this tablet to replace an Android tablet that's getting old. I heard it said that iPads are for the general consumer and Android's are for computer nerds. On that same scale, I think Windows tablets are for hard core computer nerds. You can change just about everything in a Windows tablet!! If your not going to use the cameras but want to try out a Windows tablet, try this one.

windows 10 not good os for tablet

Had this for about 3 months now and android is by far the better option for a tablet. Since everything is in window and small the interactions is always hit and miss, you constantly hit the wrong thing with your finger. Another issue is poor battery life, about 5-6 hours. The windows store only has a few apps. Windows is good only with a mouse and a decent size screen, definitely getting an android tablet as soon as I sell this one.

Best Windows tablet for the money

My first Windows tablet, runs very fast and performs very well. No issues with anything except high DPI and upgrading to the latest version of Windows 10, which I eventually resolved.

Good value

Purchased for a nine year old girl. She seems to like it very much. Compared to what else is "Out here" for the same price, it is good value.

I like the Insignia Flex 8"

I was really looking for an eReader, but I didn't have much luck there, so I decided to get a small, light weight tablet. This is my first one, and I really like it. I read eBooks on it mostly, but I downloaded my favorite browser and check my emails just as I would on my laptop. I like the full windows 10 on it so there is no learning curve. It does what I need it to do very well. Great price, and great delivery time. No surprises, I always am happy with Best Buy!!

Hard to beat full windows operating system for this price

Okay Tablet

This tablet has good specs however upon purchasing and using it; I was disappointed. The touch screen is not very responsive and web pages/apps do not display correcting in portrait view. This is not a bad tablet if you are looking for a cheap basic tablet for a child. If you are planning on using a windows tablet for work then I recommend spending a bit more for something better.

I would give this less than 1 star if I could. I bought this tablet for my daughter for Christmas. I bought it online on a Black Friday sale (BIG MISTAKE!!!). On Christmas morning my daughter was very excited to get it opened and set up. This is not a tablet and has very few apps. You can only get apps from the windows app store which is very limited! I thought it would be good for her since she likes to make videos and watch YouTube. There is no YouTube app. Then she tried to put her favourite games on it. The apps weren't in the app store. The screen is not responsive. The battery even when not using the tablet does not last the day. It shuts itself off all the time and takes several minutes to turn back on. I thought I would use it as a reader since my daughter won't be able to use it for what she wants, but there is no kindle app and when trying to use the desktop kindle the screen is distorted and you can not read the pages. My biggest complaint is with Best Buy and there awful customer service and return policy. Since I purchased this tablet on a Black Friday sale as a gift (which I do from several companies), I am unable to return the product. We tried to contact them on January 2, 2017 to return it only to learn that I had until December 12, 2016 to return the product. DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS FROM BEST BUY DURING THEIR SALES BEFORE CHRISTMAS FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS. YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH IT!

It's true that you get what you pay for

I thought I would give a Windows 10 tablet a try, after using a number of iOS tablets for several years. I didn't expect much out of this one, given how inexpensive it is compared to others. Here's the bad: - I've found it to be very slow (I was hoping for more from the Cherrytrail processor) - Windows 10 features to be poorly implemented (I couldn't get Cortona to work with the microphone) - the screen resolution is something straight out of 2012 (it's very pixelated compared to the high-resolution screens of other tablets). - the wifi adapter is awful. I'm lucky to get 2 MBps download speeds on a connection that's 50-60 MBps. My other devices (iPhone, iPad, Windows notebooks, Mac notebooks, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.) all work fine. - Like other reviewers have mentioned, the speaker is very quiet. It's not loud enough to be useful. My recommendation: look at Android tablets instead for a better tablet experience, or higher-end Windows tablets for better functionality.

  • from Toronto, ON

Good value

Runs well once all unnecessary background apps and programs are turned off. Pros: Nice screen/display, 2 gigs RAM, quad-core processor, Windows 10 Home, Bluetooth, lightweight, good overall size Cons: Weak sound through the speaker (is fine with headphones), just average battery life, sometimes the touchscreen is not sensitive enough

  • from DARTMOUTH

Returning from Android & ARM

I have owned tablets from the early day with a single core eePC and Android was the only option. There were few PC based tabs and Windows CE was crippled Windows Me/XP. Windows 10 runs smoothly performance of the Cherry Trail with on chip GPU. I bought a bluetooth mouse and keyboard and hook the HDMI to my 40" LED TV and it performs very well even movies have no lag that I experienced with my 3-year Old Hipstreet Android and ARM Cortex A7 CPU. So I have returned to Windows & Intel. This tab far seems fast and less buggy.

  • from London, ON

Does what I need it to

For a cheap tablet , it works great. I watch videos and surf the net easily. 4 hours of battery life if I stream video. Paid around the same for my last tablet and this one is much better.

  • from Peterborough, ON

Nice tablet, great value

Exceeded my expectations for this price point. Nice display, fast response time, acceptable battery life, runs Windows 10 in either tablet or desktop mode at the touch of a button. The only cons are you should go into the Windows 10 settings and disable unnecessary apps running in the background to ensure this tablet runs as fast as possible. Also the sound from the speaker is weak (not loud enough) but it works fine with headphones. Replaced my older Lenovo 7" android tablet with this tablet and have no regrets. It's hard to believe you can get a nice-looking 8" tablet like this with 2 gigs of RAM, a decent quad-core processor and Windows 10 Home for around 100 bucks.

  • from Stoney Creek, ON

Worth the money.

I bought this to see how well the new Intel Cherry Trail processor would perform and needless to say I'm impressed. The touchscreen is not quite as responsive as I would like to be but that's just me. It comes with 2GB of ram which allows Windows 10 to run smoothly but the O/S uses approximately 60% of the ram when I checked in Task Manager. This doesn't leave much room for multi-tasking and background start-up programs. Hopefully the next model will come with 4GB of ram but I doubt since the product is discontinued according to the Insignia website. Take note. You will eventually need to buy a flash card and I suggest googling "fastest flash cards". Cheap flash cards are notoriously slow and can bog down performance. Also, you can use the flash card in other devices if this product fails so it's a worthwhile investment. I am definitely sold on Intel's new Cherry Trail processor. I hate ARM and always have and Android suck's in my opinion as a tablet O/S. Intel and Windows combo for tablets is the way to go. Finally there are some tweaks you can perform in Windows 10 to speed it up and use less ram. Google is your friend. I tried looking into installing Linux but it only has a 32 bit UEFI (new name for BIOS) and Linux needs 64 bit UEFI. Insignia did this to reduce cost and use less resources (ie. ram). My next purchase will be a Microsoft Surface Pro.

Great for the price

After over a month of using this tablet, I have to say that it's much better than my android tablet. I don't do a whole lot with it, it's mostly used to control my chromecast in my bedroom and play movies and tv shows, or to surf the internet in bed. I don't do much else with it to be honest so I'm happy with it. If you're expecting a full PC's performance, you'll be disappointed. But if you're just surfing the internet, it's great. Battery last a very long time and I usually only plug it in every 4-5 days. I also have a Bluetooth mouse hooked up so I can use that to navigate webpages sometimes because the smallish screen can be annoying on same pages with small links and buttons. I think between a mouse, keyboards and the mini HDMI hooked up to a monitor, it could work as a low-end PC. It plays Netflix on its own very well and the screen is nice and clear and smooth. I would suggest you use it in "Tablet mode" instead of Desktop mode because it makes using it just so much easier. You can do this by clicking the notification icon in the bottom-right corner, and click on the "Tablet Mode" button. I would buy this again.

  • from North York, ON

Disappointing Performance

I bought this just to play music but the touch screen and operating system are awful. Touch screen is very insensitive and inaccurate. Very slow at handling screen rotation and you have to resize after going from portrait to landscape. Windows 10 operating system is very slow to respond and adjustments are difficult to make. On the whole, I wish I'd put the money towards a branded unit.

  • from Toronto, ON

Good value

A good budget tablet. Pros: -Full Windows 10 functionality, switchable to tablet mode -Good screen -HDMI -WiFi works well -Adequate performance, no issues with HD content (4k not tested) Cons: -Speaker quality not very good, but volume seems okay -Average build quality 5 stars because you can't expect more for the low price. Very good value tablet here.

  • from Kingston, ON

Good tablet with Windows 10

I wanted a tablet with some Microsoft Office capabilities. I didn't want to spend too much on one until I know how much I will actually use it. I got this one on Boxing day sale for a great price. It does everything I need a tablet to do. I also purchased a case that has a mini keyboard in it, and it became a mini laptop. I mainly use a tablet when at home or in hotels when travelling so Wifi only is okay for my needs. No need to pay for data plans this way. It has a camera, although not the greatest. It has Windows and Office installed. Cons: The battery life is somewhat short as other reviewers have mentioned and it only works in Wifi, no outside data roaming.

  • from North York, ON

lasted 5 days before crashing

Second attempt at a review You get what you pay for with this machine. Plenty of negative surprises, the first was it did not recognize the faster 5G WIFI. When you return it you must accept that you are responsible for deleting your person files i.e. banking etc.; however the machine crashed and special hardware is required to access the hard-drive. Spent the day changing my passwords

  • from North York, ON

Whenever you buy cheap the surprises start immediately. The first was the tablet did not recognise the 5G WIFI but did the slower speed. The poor performance and awkwardness of the tablet continued until it died after 4 days of limited use. I am never going to buy this brand again. One star is too generous.

  • from Burlington, ON

This tablet was nothing like a tablet, it's just like a mini windows 10 laptop! I bought this tablet to install apps but it wouldn't let because I needed a Microsoft account. I got a Microsoft account but it still wouldn't let me install any apps. This tablet is also really slow. You have to tap it multiple times for it to respond. I do not recommend this tablet.

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Poor touch response

I had two of last year's Insignia 8" Windows 10 tablets. One I still have and am happy with. The other had WiFi issues so I got this current tablet to replace it. I don't like the repositioning of the buttons, it was better on the previous revision. I can live with that although it is an annoyance. What I am having a big problem with it the responsiveness of the touch panel. It is too slow and requires too much pressure. Too much pressure? How can that be with a capacitance touch panel? Hell if I know. But I can use a lot less pressure on last year's model. I can type stuff and every few characters it doesn't take the entry. I have the remote display mode enable, that shows a darker circle on the display with a touch but it is frustrating. I want to think about what I am thinking and not about 'did it take it this time'. I tried holding longer and applying some pressure and that has helped. But I sometimes get doubles in that case. I can't use this! It is going back next week after the boxing day rush.

  • from Stouffville

Good value. Windows 10 support everything I need.

Now a day, I won't consider any laptop with spinning hard drive. I have a faster Pentium CUP laptop with more RAM which is still running spinning HD. It sometime slower than this tablet. Especially run windows update or virus scan. SSD hard drive makes this kind of small tablet affordable and fairly fast. I got one but with problem in camera. So I exchange another one and so far everything is running fine. I bought one for my kid and one for gift with Black Friday deal.

My Insignia tablet

I didn't want to spend a lot of money for my tablet so I went with this tablet. I love it. The big down side is the volume is way too low, especially for someone like me who uses it mostly to watch Netflix.

  • from Hamilton, ON

Great Value for Money

All my devices are Windows 10 and this tablet is a great complement...light, easy to use. I would recommend it.

  • from Norwood

One of the best!

I got two of these. One for me (after someone broke my last one) and one for my husband. He was using an android with so much bloatware on it, the batter wouldn't last an hour. I surprised him with it and it was a HUGE step up from his last one. The only thing I don't like is the 4 hour battery time limit. For what I use it for (I need white noise when I sleep) I keep it plugged in. But other than that, it's fast and I've had no problems with it so far.

  • from Courtenay, BC

Excellent Value

Includes an HDMI port, which is rare at this price. Will drive an external display/TV at full 1080p via HDMI when the tablet's own display is turned off, and works great as a video media streamer. Bluetooth allows mouse or keyboard to be used without tying up the USB charging port.

  • from Richmond, BC

Great tablet for the price. Runs fast and smooth. No issues whatsoever.

  • from Surrey, BC

Don't buy this

Definitely the worse tablet you can get on the market. Slow, doesn't connect to internet half the time and can't work with normal tablet apps because it's a pc without the mouse and keyboard

  • from Belleville, ON

Insignia Tablet

I have had no issues with the tablet. It is a great buy for the money. It easily syncs with my phone and PC. You can add an SD card for additional storage. You can save applications to it.

  • from Prince George, BC

Mine worked for about 2 months where it would not turn on even using the help of tech support. Only option was to pay a fortune to mail it back and THEN risk all my personal info such as credit cards, auto logged on accounts, paypal, bank log on's being seen by others. See the issue? So I figured no thanks ill just open it up and unplug the battery and hard reset it myself.... Well... Nope..... First, the battery is not a normal battery, it soldered to the mob, No Biggie? Wrong. The screen WILL crack even trying to open it with proper tools due to the cheap glass. Just the pressure of plastic tools and suction cups will damage it. Then If you can get all this right, the battery isn't solid, its soft and GLUED to the back of the touch screen. So not you get to risk puncturing a charged battery. Back to another issue the touch screen is almost unusable its so inaccurate. Over all would be the tablets specs, it can run games....But it WILL crash within an hour due to it over heating and will NOT hold a charge.

Was a fine tablet until a problem occured with a windows update ?

I let Marichel, of customer service know of the problem the 24th of September by G-Mail and he let me know to just return to one your store with the product and they would take from there. Mean-while I was not feeling good enough at that time to travel to your destination because I am a sick man with a severe health problem. So today I am still sick without a tablet that I bought to help stay occupied during my convalescent time. It's like if I cant trust sending it back to you for repairs or trade-in. It's like that when I got the tablet I got it all set up on my network but could only use a couple of days. I have had similar problems with other merchants and was not brushed off by telling me to bring the product back to the store. I want to remind you that this product was purchase threw PayPal and PayPal are suppost to cover shipping cost in such matter's . Perhaps this will get your attention and you could let me know of your directives to get this product fixed, changed or credited by a courier of your choice since I am still not well enough to get to you destination. Reference order number 458865106.

  • from Port Moody

Great for the price. I am using it as a control tablet for my 3D printers.

Was able to complete all required tasks & can be attached to a screen, keyboard & mouse to function as a mini desktop. Works better with a mouse than with the included touch screen.

  • from Regina, SK

Excellent Tablet, Excellent Value

Got this one on sale. Excellent tablet. Fast processor, decent speed SSD, and most importantly this tablet has 2GB of DDR3. Other Windows tablets in this price range only have 1GB - avoid those like the plague. Windows 10 runs 10x better with that extra 1GB of DDR3. The cameras are ok but I rarely use cameras on a tablet. Build quality is excellent and the screen is bright, sharp, & clear. One piece of advice. Take the awful screen protector off when you get this tablet. The screen looks way better with it off. Battery life is ok, wish the battery was larger but in the price class its acceptable. Overall, a very good Windows 10 tablet especially when on sale. Very happy with it.

  • from Victoria, BC

good value

I just bought this tablet today and it does everything I need it too. The only issue is the speaker which is not very good..... use a Bluetooth external speaker or headphones.

  • from Kitchener, ON

very impressed

Very good performance for every day use. Only drawback is the battery life, 3hours, so requires portable battery. Overall, awesome device.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Decent price decent quality.

I bought it today. It hasn't shown any problem as well as caused any inconvenience to me so far. I believe this is a good choice. I hope it will last for a long time.
