Good enough...

I bought this for my 8 year old's bedroom. I hoped that I could plug her iPod into it to play and charge... Could not. I guess the USB is strictly for flash drives...? SO... I connected with the bluetooth and plugged her iPod in elsewhere. The room is about 12x18 feet, and this little stereo is loud enough to get booming in there, but not shake the house. PERFECT. It's nice and small, fits on her shelves nicely... I will have to play with the remote to see what functions it does, because it really seems like it has waaaay more buttons than it needs.

Punch for the buck!

It's a great little system, the perfect bookshelf stereo, has all the I could ask for in a smaller system.

Very good quality

We just love it. Previously had a Sony. This one is 100% better. Love the bluetooth and it works just great.

Not good quality

Bluetooth conection is weak, sound is not powerful and clear.

Sounds remarkably good

I've only had it for three weeks, but so far, it's just fine. Sound is much more impressive than you might expect at this price point (especially since I purchased it on sale). Won't rattle the windows, but it's plenty loud. All functions, including Bluetooth, work as they should, although I have not tried the USB input. The CD tray, as some others have pointed out, does seem a little flimsy, so you're going to want to be careful loading and really does look like it would snap off without a lot of encouragement. (I deduct one star for that). One reason I decided on this system was the RCA-type AUX input. I was looking for something I could hook a turntable to, and this fits the bill. (If that's what you want, keep in mind this is not an actual 'phono' input -- you will need either a pre-amp or a turntable with a built-in pre-amp to make it work) Overall, a nice little bit of equipment and a good price. I'm pleased with it.

Out of little packages comes big sound.

When I was checking this unit out before I ordered it, I thought someone asked if it had AM and whoever said it did have that. Well it does not, it does have FM and the CD player and some very nice speakers. The sound is quite solid and comes with a remote that you must use to make a number of the function work. I am pleased with it so far. I can not say anything about the blue tooth features as I do not use those.

No Good

I had big expectations after reading the reviews. However, once I started listening to music, it was a letdown. The sound lacked clarity and the reception was poor. I hated so much that I returned it and got a refund.

I'm Impressed, Have found nothing wrong with it. My only wish, if it had a 5 cd changer. Great sound, Hooks up to my Tv via Aux. Easy to use and it does program Radio stations an remembers it. Love It!

Great Things Come in Small Packages

I was actually just looking for a pair of speakers when I found this unit. The specs on the speakers were better than many that cost a lot more. Most of the cheaper speakers cut off at 100 Hz. That doesn't give you much bass. These speakers have a frequency range of 40 Hz to 20, 000 kHz. The range of human hearing is about 20 Hz to 20,000 kHz. The fact that they reported the wattage as an RMS value also impressed me.These cheaper units usually only report the peak wattage in the specs and the cheaper the unit, the higher the wattage. I do have a good receiver but it is old and it doesn't have any of the modern features like bluetooth, so I decided to give it a shot. I couldn't be happier. Those little speakers sound great. It is still a budget unit but I don't think that you are going to do any better unless you spend several hundred more. As someone else said, 50 watts can be loud. I have a small house. I put it on a shelf in the middle of the house and it fills the place with music. If you are in an apartment, you wouldn't want anything any louder. The sound is clean and accurate. There is a small amount of distortion at higher volumes. The radio and CD player can get quite loud but it didn't seem to get as loud when streaming over bluetooth. That might just be my phone. Unfortunately, it seems to forget the FM presets. That's the only downside for me. At this price though, I am not going to complain. I'm impressed with this little unit overall. It's a great value at regular price and it goes on sale all of the time. If you have a small place or need a stereeo for your basement or garage you can't go wrong here.

Pleased so far

I got this stereo a few days ago, and so far I am pleased. I reserved it online, and was able to pick it up the next day. Customer service was pretty good overall, although they were busy when I went in to the store. I have a small apartment, so needed something compact that didn't take up a lot of shelf space. The sound quality seems to be very good.

A big system in a small box.

My computer sound system recently gave up the ghost so I got looking online at various options... those little "tri-path" amps came immediately to mind. Then I stumbled on this mini-stereo and thought "Well the price is right." so I decided to look at one in the store. To my surprise it turned out to be a really good sounding, ballsy little stereo. Getting the unit home I settled in for the usual round of tests... It's power isn't quite the 25 watts per channel advertised, it does 20 with very clean sound (less than .1% distortion). 25w occurs at about 5% distortion. But don't be put off, 20 watts of clean power is very loud, more than most people need for reasonable listening levels and more than enough to drive most speakers. Inside the receiver, everything is digital. It has a switching power supply and class D amplifier. The all digital FM tuner is surprisingly good sounding as is the CD player. The speakers were a surprise. Despite their small size (4" woofers, 1" tweeters) they deliver surprisingly clean, clear and well balanced sound... better than my old-school Minimus 7 speakers that were the de facto standard in mini-speakers for more than 20 years. The overall construction of the unit is quite good. It is in a sturdy metal case with a plastic front face. It all fits together nicely with no rough edges or poor alignments. If treated gently it should last a long time. Two minor quibbles... First the red "standby" light is too bright and it is unnecessary in any case. If the display is off, it's in standby. Second the remote control is a bit awkward, some buttons react very slowly others too quickly... they need to work on that. Overall... an excellent unit for the price.

Great little stereo for the price! Would recommend

Nice stereo but....

A nice stereo for my Garage/Workshop/ Backyard. The only problems are the unit will not "remember" the pre-set stations after I set them up ( I set them up according to the manual instructions) but for some reason when I press the pre-set station button it goes to all the stations in my area with different station numbers, ( than the ones I set )and for stations that I did not pre-set.( like Punjabi,Chinese radio stations) A bit strange but it gets all the stations I want it to get. Also the speaker wires that go into the unit are a little bit delicate and temperamental, but after a few adjustments I get perfect sound. I Iike the equalizer sound settings also (Jazz,Pop,classical, etc.) which are great as not all radio stations are the same in quality. My MP3 player sounds amazing also when plugged into this system.

Great Little System

I'm using this as a radio so far. The sound is very good and it's easy to set up. It has AM as well as FM. I was surprised that a lot of system have FM only. The price is good as well.

Insigna Bluetooth Stearo

Great for what I need. Machine fits almost anywhere. Great sound. Price point perfect.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Just what I wanted

Needed a compact unit to tune into FM stations, channel BluTooth, play CDs in my apartment. This does it all. Not for overly sensitive sound-enthusiasts, but for generally listening to music as a background to one's day, or cranking up the volume to groove a bit, this fits the bill.

Excellent little stereo for small spaces

I have had this for about three months now. I initially got a small Sony stereo but returned it and got this one. I am so much happier with this stereo for these reasons: 1. The speakers are heavier, so they don't move around as easily as others, and the sound coming out of them does not cause the cabinet to vibrate. 2. The sound is really excellent for such a small stereo system. It even has a reasonable amount of bass when you turn it to medium volume levels, and because the speakers are wired just like a big stereo you could add a subwoofer to it. 3. The controls are responsive. The Sony one I tried before it was so slow to respond that I often hit buttons twice wondering if it had taken the first push. This one responds right away. 4. The controls are very intuitive. No need to read any instructions except on how to pair the Bluetooth, and even that I only needed to glance at once. 5. Easy to pair with Bluetooth devices. I use it with my G3 phone and my old Samsung Tab2 tablet. 6. Aux input so I can plug it into my computer and other devices that do not have Bluetooth. 7. It looks nice.

excellent little unit

I love it.. price was right..solid little unit

  • from Kingsville, ON

Sounds Good BUT...

When I unpackaged the item and put things together, I found that (a) one of the speakers did not work and (b) the remote would not remember the pre-set stations. Going to try the Sony.

I've owned this shelf system for 2 weeks, now, and have been using it as a bedroom unit. I like the fact it has treble and bass controls in addition to the preset EQ settings. It actually doesn't sound bad at all for the price. Bluetooth pairing is also a nice feature. So far, the main issues I have with the product are: -the flimsy CD player drawer and the fact you can hear the laser reading the disc at low volume; -the lack of a clock or "sleep feature"; -ID3 not showing all song info in a loop; -the USB player not remembering its position, once it's stopped, and not being able to play tracks in different orders (program, random, alphabetical); -the remote keys and the front panel buttons are not easy to figure out in the dark. I would still recommend this unit, nonetheless, especially if on sale.
