Great budget ereader

I was quite impressed with this ereader. Been using it now for a solid 3 weeks and it surpasses my expectations at this price point. Screen is sharp, backlight works great, and touchscreen is responsive. Buyers should note that this is the Aura Edition 2, the description doesn't really say if it is or not but the box in the store shows that it is. It has more features than I expected, and all 30 books I've loaded on it work great. I highly recommend this one especially if upgrading from an older ereader like I did.

Piece of garbage

My 11 year old daughter asked for an e-reader for Christmas, we figured this was a great place for her to start. Downloading books from the library took forever and once we did get a book on there, she read for 4 days and the entire device froze and won't restart or even be recognized by the computer. My Sony ereader is going strong 4 years later even after being accidentally submerged. So disappointed in the Kobo, hoping their customer service may help us out, but don't have high hopes.

We have 3 Kobos

We have 3 Kobos in the family. They have worked very well for: 6,4 and 3 years respectively. We have one caution and one gripe. The caution regards the female power input connector, it's not terribly robust, nor repairable. That said, the replacement Kobo has worked perfectly for 3 years. ( The offending child was left handed and perhaps rough ) My gripe relates to sharing books within one family. Sometimes it works flawlessly, and other times the 'book' doesn't want to migrate to another kobo. The fault is probably mine, because each of our three Kobos is sync'd to a different computer. So, if you buy more than one, sync them all on the same computer.

Had 2 -- Neither worked

Purchased my first Kobo Aura which worked for about 5 minutes (literally), then returned for a second one and after 5 minutes, it completely stopped working too. Wouldn't charge, turn on/off, etc. It just completely froze on the download screen. I couldn't believe I could have 2 in a row that didn't work. Wanted to get a Kobo to download books from the library as well as purchase ebooks but this experience has been so negative I am forced to purchase a Kindle.

Stopped working in less than 5 months!

I have had two Kobo e-readers. The first one lasted over 2 years then would not charge or open. The second one less than 5 months! Same issue with NO warning! I loved it when it worked. Very disappointing!

Great Reader

Works as it should. I like that it is not to big and I can read the screen at the beach. Setup was a bit touchy but not impossible. Thanks Kobo!

All your reading must now be bought from Kobo.

Kobo used to be a good choice because you could download royalty free classic books from Project Gutenberg in the Kobo and read them. Not anymore. If Kobo doesn't have it on their website, you aren't reading it.

Stopped working one month after the warranty expir

It worked well for the first ten months. Then there was a software update which forced kobo ads onto my home screen. I really didnt like that. Then after using it for one year and one month it froze never to recover. And inconveniently, it was no longer covered by the one year warranty. I have seen many reviews saying these things don't last long. Now I add another to the pile. I dont plan on buying another. I will just go back to old fashioned paper books that I can buy second hand and share with friends.

A so-so product

Frozen very often, frequently jump to the last page of the book when reading in the middle. Not recommended.

Hard to get up and running

Finally got it running with help from Geek Squad. However, too complicated to get library books and worried about longevity with the other reviews. Working fine now though. I dont buy books and wont on this due to reliability problems.

Works great for me

I bought this to replace a 5 year old Sony Reader that finally died. Haven't had any problems and it worked pretty much as I expected. I already had a Kobo account with about 150 books and setup and sync worked fine for me. I like the backlight and it is quite bright for my tastes so when I use it is at about 10%. With the backlight at 20% and with wifi on, the battery only lasted about a week's worth of more than average reading. I turned the backlight and wifi off to see what a difference that made and its been a week now without charging and the battery is at about 75%. PROS: Light, easy to use and setup, backlight. CONS: Scrolling through my long list of books felt a bit clunky and had some accidentally selections along the way. WISHLIST: Wish I could configure the home screen a bit.

Koo Aura

Frozen... can't be reset. What a waste of money and the books I have bought. Thanks Kobo

Customer Service

The new Kobo (software) has issues adding libary books. The customer service team acts like the have never heard of this issue yet there numerous forms online about everyone having the same problem. Kobo just released a software update with a bug in it that makes your Kobo not work. The support team is not able to provide any feedback as to when this will be fixed. I do not suggest buying a product like this that is prone to problems and has a horrible customer support team.

Kobo 6" Reader

Would not recommend this e reader. Have had mine for not quite a year and a half and it froze, and evidently they cannot be fixed, very disappointed. I enjoyed it while it did work. Seems to me it should last longer than that.

Kobo makes a VERY inferior product. I have bought several versions of this companies ereaders and they ALL stop working in one way or another. I very STRONGLY recommend going to another company. I am presently going through issues with this reader just after I bought it, which is replacing the Kobo Glo that I bought, that broke down 2 months later I must say that i have been VERY impressed with Best Buy's handling of my issues with Kobo. They are very good about refunding my money within their 30 day window from an earlier Kobo Glo that I bought. (i was stupid enough to buy another because of all the Kobo books i have in my library)

Convenient and handy

I've had my Kobo Aura 6" for about 3-4 weeks now. This is my fourth Kobo (we won't talk about what happened to the others!). I really like that it's compact and not heavy, as I carry it everywhere with me. The only complaint I have is that it can be very slow in flipping pages -- sometimes I have to tap it in 4 or 5 different places before it will actually turn the page. Otherwise, I think that the Kobo was one of the greatest ideas ever. I have over 600 books that I've read on Kobos and I would have a hard time reading a regular hard or soft cover book now.

Best product

I bought and not knowing how it would but to be honest I love its just amazing and now i could say i am with the idea of owning one

Unreliable junk

Mine froze after one year. Same problem that is reported all over the internet. Just do the research. The product can't be rebooted in spite of trying every suggestion available online. Wouldn't buy a Kobo again. It's like a British sports car; they're great when they work.

Kobos are disposable e-readers, mine haven't lasted long

Bought a Kobo Aura in May 2015. It stopped working 7 months later, in December. Got a replacement from Kobo in January 2016. It stopped working 7 months later, in August. Contacted Kobo, who said the one-year warranty on the original purchase had expried and they would do nothing further. In both cases, they stopped working without warning, just froze and wouldn't function anymore despite trying all the recommened procedures for resetting (manual and factory) and re-charging numerous times. Although I liked the Kobo while it was working, I am reluctant to spend the money again on such an unreliable device.
