Bad Product and Poor Customer Service

The new Kobo (software) has issues adding libary books. The customer service team acts like the have never heard of this issue yet there numerous forms online about everyone having the same problem. Kobo just released a software update with a bug in it that makes your Kobo not work. The support team is not able to provide any feedback as to when this will be fixed. I do not suggest buying a product like this that is prone to problems and has a horrible customer support team.

This device drives me crazy

This device is driving me crazy. A month or so ago when I went onto my account it did an upgrade to the e-reader and installed a collection called "reading list". The problem was that it deleted all my other reading lists. I spent over an hour putting in all my collections again. Since that update, I have had problems turning pages. When reading a book it sometimes will skip forward numerous screens and I then have to scroll back to find where I was. There is also a problem scrolling through the pages of my books or my collections. Sometimes it will go backward and sometimes forwards no matter what direction I swipe the screen. Today when I downloaded a new book, I went into my collections and found it had re-installed about half of the collections that he disappeared before. So now I have double collections and no way to delete them. Whenever I plug the device into my computer a message comes up that says "There is a problem with this device. Scan the drive now to fix it". When I try to do that nothing happens. Finally, I e-mailed Kobo to get help. I got an auto reply back to call them. Tried that several times and was told the wait time was about 50 minutes.

So Far I Am Loving My New Aura H2O

I have only had this new e-reader for about 1 month after my old Kobo Touch stopped working following many hours of reading and enjoyment. I have downloaded books from Kobo as well as library books and everything seems to be working well. The set up originally took a bit longer, but once done it is doing what it should. I like that all my books are visible on my reader, but I get to choose which ones I actually want to download so I can save space for new reads. Loving the back light and the size. I have not tried it outside in the sun yet but will do soon :-)

Kobo vs Sony

So disheartening to hear that the Kobos do not last very long and that they have so many issues. I have had my Sony for over 5 years with no issues what so ever. I thought I would upgrade to an eReader that was wifi ready but Sony does not make eReaders anymore, so I would be stuck buying a Kobo.

Poor Quality

I have had two, and after 6 months the first unit stopped accepting a charge. Interacting with Kobo's return department was horrible, but I like the Aura (while it worked), so I purchased another. This one has again stopped accepting a charge after a few months. I will not be purchasing any other Kobo products.

Kobo aura h20 with adobe digital editions

I get my books mostly form my local library. I have found that the kobo is pretty much useless because the required adobe digital editions application seldom allows me to open the drm protected books. I got the kobo aura h2o for the larger screen but now can not use the device. I have gone back to my kindle and have put the kobo in my desk drawer. The kobo might work ok for purchased content, but it is sadly lacking for library downloads

Exactly what I wanted!

After frying my last Kobo while reading it in the bathtub, I was looking for an e-reader that is waterproof. I am extremely happy with the performance of this unit, and have not experienced any freezing or malfunctions. The only downside is that it is a bit heavier than my previous Kobo, but it is still lighter than using a tablet. I am very pleased with it!

Picked up this Kobo on a Tuesday afternoon. Returned it the next morning and went to Factory Direct and ordered a Kobo aura. Picked it up two days ago and it is awesome. This is my third Kobo. The USB port keeps breaking. Hopefully this one won't!

Great ebook reader for outdoors

This is my first ebook reader as I was frustrated reading outdoors with a tablet. Light to hold and so easy to read at the beach. Waterproof is a great bonus. A bit tricky at first to figure out how to drop my library books on but fantastic once I figured it out. I have finally given up paper books.

Very fragile

Most fragile ebook reader I've ever owned. I've had several kobo's in the past that I've given away when I've upgraded - they are fine - I'm very careful with mine. The screen stopped working properly after being charged. Kobo initially said they would replace and then when I tried to process the replacement they changed their mind and said it was screen damage/not covered. Seems to break very easy

Kobo h2o

I actually looked over all the different ereaders over the last year, and decided to get the h2o. I am totally not disappointed with my purchase. Even after reading all comments everywhere. I already have an iPad & an iPhone so I wanted something that had a battery that didn't need everyday charging. I read a lot and I can't waste time charging it all the time. I knew it wasn't like a tablet (no zooming with fingers & such) but it's suppose to be close enough of a book, that's what I wanted. I couldn't care less for colours on an ereader. I read books with words, not comics or magazines. I also didn't care about the bookstore as I needed something that could be plugged in my PC so I could transfer easily my epubs. The transfer is easy as 123. The thing I would change on the kobo though as someone already wrote in comments, is the organization of my books. It took me a few hours to organize them in series categories. But now it's done so I can read peacefully. I wish what you transferred in folders would stay organized by those folders. I like the lighting, but I read on it at only 2% lighting, wish it could go lower than that in a dark room. Also wish I could read white writing on black background like on the iPhone. But I got used to it. I like how you can chose font size margins space etc.. I also like the reading stats, not necessary but useful. I love how I don't have to worry about water, it's the reason I ended up buying the h2o instead of another kobo. The tablet is the perfect size especially in bus & subway commute & good lighting and my eyes are not tired after reading for hours on it. I like how you can search a word definition in any language without wifi (have to download dictionaries first) wifi is not important but it updates during your sleep. Pages turn quick, words don't burn into it even if it's set to lowest rate of 6 pages. I've bought it at Christmas & it was delivered 2 days later. I think I charged the battery once and it's at 36% and I read a lot every day. I just found out there's games & web browser in beta, but I don't use them, it could be useful sometimes though. I wish we could turn off the bookstore & not have recommended books all the time though. I love my kobo h2o, I don't think I would've been happier with another ereader. My eyes are happy too!

Great to read and unlike the Kindle, you can download Canadian Library Books.

Unit was purchased Nov. 19, 2014, and was presented to me on Christmas 2014 as a gift. Worked perfectly until it failed and would not restart on Christmas day 2015. Kobo service center tried but it could not be reactivated. Was advised one year warranty had expired so too bad.

Bought one for my wife in Sept 2014 from Future Shop. It died after 8 months and was replaced by Kobo with a refurbished unit because it was still under warranty. Second unit also died after 8 months. Not worth repairing - too expensive - so she is left with a useless unit. Fortunately she can still access her books via the tablet app. Definitely won't buy Kobo again.

First one was a lemon, second one is ok

I have been an avid reader for many years, and this is my first Kobo. I have been using Sony Reader for many years, and it is time to upgrade. The first Kobo H2O I bought didn't work well, so I exchanged it, and the customer service was great at Best Buy. The second one is working ok. Cons: The sleep cover doesn't always work well, so I disabled the settings for it. I wish there was a better organization of books. I copied them in folders, and my library is very organized, but on the device itself I see them all in one list. Imagine seeing your whole library (a few thousands of books) all in one list. Many of my books are in Russian, and since Russian is not in the list of languages, I can't search for a book. I really doubt the 2 months battery, more like two weeks. Maybe I am reading way more than expected though. Clicking on sidenotes that are supposed to take you to the word explanation (if they are part of the book) is pain. Big time. It doesn't work half the time. And it is in a book purchased as epub. When it does work it is awfully slow. Pros: Back light. I love the idea. Going from one page to another is quick and painless. It does the job an ereader is supposed to do and does it pretty well

Would not recommend this one

First ereader and nothing but issues with it. Dont like the way kobo tries to manage everything on it. Very slow and added books dont seem to be getting on to the reader. Not easy to use at all.

2nd. H2O Kobo Reader

My Husband bought me my first Kobo H2O e-reader for my birthday a couple of months ago. I had it almost a month, before it stopped working (why I don't know). I took it back to Best Buy and the girl who I was dealing with was great. They did not have one in stock so she ordered me one, which came in later that week. So, now I am on my 2nd H20 Kobo Reader. Again its hasn't been quite a month yet, but so far, so good. I hope this one will last me for a while, because I love to read all the time. You will never find me without my e-reader in hand.

Happy Wife, Happy Life!

My wife, (who was skeptical about switching from paper to digital (and initially quite annoyed with the product)) has absolutely fallen in love with her new Kobo. An avid book reader, the devise has (in as little as a couple months) already paid for itself twice over in cost-savings - not to mention the recovery of priceless storage space and sudden lack of clutter around the house. The optional flip open cover (a must!) allows her to hold it like a book, the screen presents like a book, the text is crystal clear and the back-lighting has rendered that disturbing book-light obsolete. It's obvious I have

Wonderful product

Love this reader! !! the lighting is perfect!! And can read in the bath with no worries of dropping it. Finally h2o version! Can't wait to bring it to the beach!

So Far, So Good

I haven't had the reader for long enough to know completely how it works. But, so far, I like what I've seen. It works well.

Hard Core

I came from a tablet so no point of comparison to others readers BUT I LOVE IT! Had this since April, took it on vacation in Mexico, and it survived. The screen is awesome I don't understand the other negative reviews perhaps a lemon. With brightness fairly high and reading four books over 10 days I still had 32% battery when I got home. The only quirk I have noticed but is totally minor is after charging I have to open and close the sleep cover a couple times to get the screen to wake up.

Kobo Aura H2O

Hello, I waited several weeks of use before reviewing. We already have a Kobo Aura HD in the house and the H2O is basically the same. I was tempted to buy it because of the games. The features are too small, hard on the eyes. Reading books is fine except often unstable, often does not respond before touching 3-4 times, sometimes goes backwards, the notice" water on the lcd etc" pops up now and again for no reason. However the lighting is great, the reading experience on the whole is very satisfactory. You learn to live with its "touchy" contrariness. (maybe it is telling us to slow down a bit with our commands.)

Kobo Aura H2O

love being able to take my books with me anywhere I go now. I am still learning about all the features on my new Kobo Aura H2O. There was no instruction book that showed all the features so I by touching the screen in different areas I have been able to explore and learn about all the features this amazing little reader has hidden inside. I don't explore too much as I am busy reading the one of the many books I have downloaded to my lap top and linked to my Kobo. Somebody mentioned in their review that this Kobo was fragile. Really people , what did you expect !! You can't throw these around like a paperback book ! It's a digital screen , just like your cell phones and lap tops. Treat it with care and it will last for ages !!

Best Book Reader out there

Do not go for what the critics are saying, people want to go for one brand only and let me tell you, it beats them all. One of the best gadgets I ever bought

  • from NYC

Very fragile

There is something wrong with the way its made, as the screen broke and started displaying lines all over the screen, while I was actually reading it. Granted it was a cold day at the bus stop but I have never had any f of older ebook readers do this. I have had one out in a blizzard once and it slowed a little but the screen never acted like this one. So if your looking for an easy way to toss ...bucks away this is the way to do it. I had my device for a little over 1 month before this happened.

  • from Grande Prairie, AB

Very Disappointing

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and while she loved it, after a month of use the screen broke while sitting overnight on a flat surface inside the sleepcover. Customer service diagnosed it as "physical damage" due to the radiating lines and denied warranty coverage, so I opened it up to take a look and found the cracks radiating from a spot on the edge of the screen behind the bezel. So, either this had some sort of pre-existing defect, or the screen is so flimsy that it can crack from normal use. Even if it had fallen from that spot (which there was no evidence of), it's a two foot fall onto carpet! I won't be buying anything Kobo any time soon.

  • from Houston, TX, USA

I love it!

This isn't a tablet, which in my opinion is a huge plus, but some people feel like it's a bad thing. You really shouldn't use it for anything but reading books. PDFs are somewhat tricky, but they are that way on just about any platform or device. There is a tiny lag in flipping pages, but nothing that actually bothers it, and I haven't read the manual, so maybe there is a way to play with refresh rate to change that. Oh, and the only way I've personally loaded books so far was through the usb cable and the kobo software. I'm not that impressed with their application, but it does the job. Now for the good things. The brightness is adjustable, and very uniform. So if I'm reading and the lights in the room are flipped on/off I can seamlessly continue reading. There is also no rival to Kobo H2O to reading in the bath! In fact, I have taken more baths since getting my ereader than ever before in my adult life. And yes, I have dropped it in the water once, with no ill effect. The fonts are easily changed, size and weight adjusted. I am annoyed by letters that are too thin or fat, so I like the weight adjustments. There is a way to organize books into collections, which helps a great deal if more than one person is using the book, or if you, like me, are reading a few books at once, on for work, one for general enlightenment, and for sheer pleasure. The only actual complaint I have is the price. It's a tad too expensive for my taste, compared to other devices. But given that currently it's the only waterproof one, I felt that it's definitely the only choice for me.

Kobo WATERproof Reader

Great Graphics - just enough light to make it entirely readable from all angles. Had the Kobo Glo before - the Aura page turns consistently, the Glo got stuck once in a while... A Good Buy

Terrific E-Book Reader for Great Value

The best features for me with this e-book reader are: - small compact size, especially with lots of books stored in the e-book reader - charging capability, up to 2 months, depending on daily usage - waterproof capability - expandable memory All the above will be helpful to me when I take my e-book reader on vacation. .
