- Easy and Comfortable to Use- September 8, 2020
I have used other breast pumps prior to testing this. In comparison, I am very happy with the Medela max flow breast pump. The stand out feature is that it is very compact yet hospital performance grade pump. I particularly admire the efficient and minimalistic design that make it easy to use at work and on the go. The silicon rim on the flanges makes the pump extremely comfortable to use without bruising or harming my skin in anyway. It extracts milk vey efficiently. The pre-programmed settings are very useful and takes the guesswork out. The clean up was a breeze, given the minimal number of parts and saved me a significant amount of time. The only downside if any, is that its could have come with a rechargeable battery pack instead of the regular batteries placed in a battery pack. I would highly recommend this as a great and useful product for moms on the go! I would like to thank Stellar testing panel for sending this product. I have made to effort here to give my honest and unbiased opinion.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- comfortable and effective!- September 9, 2020
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a 3 month old baby that had a very difficult time latching at first. Because of that I initially used a hospital grade pump to express milk for almost all of his feedings. At this point he is able to latch well, but I still pump for some bottle feedings. I was excited to get the Pump in Style with Max Flow. It is compact, comes with the accessaries needed for on the go pumping, and even is able to use batteries so you don't have to be near and outlet. Some things I really like about it are that while it comes with a great bag to tote it around, it's quite small and could easily be packed away most anywhere. The motor is quiet, and the flanges are very comfortable. It comes with two sizes of flanges so you can be sure to get a good fit. I also really like how easy it is to clean all the parts. The bottles come apart easily and there aren't any small crevices that are difficult to wash. In terms of how well this removes milk, I found it comparable to a hospital grade pump. It takes only slightly longer to remove as much milk as when I use a hospital grade pump. Having used a handful of different pumps, this one is definitely at the top of my list. It is comfortable, removes milk effectively, comes with all the accessories you need, and is easy to program so it pulls milk effectively without being uncomfortable, not to mention it's also the easiest to clean out of what I have tried. The only things I would change if I could, would be to have a screen on the pump that shows the time you've been pumping and notes the setting choices, and to have a traditional screw connection to the bottle instead of with the grey piece which makes it a little more tricky to line things up and attach it to the bottle. Also, it doesn't bother me, but is worth mentioning that the battery pack is not built into the pump but instead plugs into the pump. I received the Pump in Style with Max Flow as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel in return for my honest review.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- A sleek, portable pump option- September 11, 2020
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to use this pump because I used the original meddle pump in style around the clock for 15 months for my first son. I admit, I’ve fallen in love with another brand for my second son, so it’s been amazing to try this out as part of the stellar parent review panel - I got this unit for free in exchange for my honest review. Hot take: Very portable unit and will make a lot of sense for most people. To get the most out of this pump, you will need some time for the after market parts makers to catch up. This pump is best for someone who is new to pumping and not looking to use existing medela parts (think of it like old pump in style [PIS] to symphony, rather than PIS to newer PIS). If this pump is covered by insurance, I think it’s a great option, but this is very pricey out of pocket. The unit itself is very small and compact, but the flanges and connectors are also very large, so I’m not sure that traveling with it is all that better. This pumped milk as well as or better than the pumps I have (I did direct comparison to one wearable and one non-medela home use “hospital grade” pump. It can’t compete with the symphony. The good: Small, sleek design and very smartly done. It seems like you could safely share this pump with others as there is no backflow (YAY! Big improvement over last PIS) but they note this voids the warranty. There are fewer parts to clean and replace - yay! It is very similar to wearable pump styles and very easy. I found it easy to clean and sterilize however I’m still unsure that the nooks and crannies in the plastic housing won’t cause problems in the long term. The tubing update is sleek and great and easy to make a single. I really like the flex shields, but they run small. I always wear a 24mm (have for years across every brand I’ve tried), and with these I was like “oops, must have grabbed the 21mms”... nope. I didn’t. I guess I need to buy the next size if/when available? The plastic tops allow for privacy which is so nice in a shared lactation facility, like at a ball park for example. Because it’s not clear though, it’s harder to tell when it is clean and if things need adjusting. I didn’t ever get moisture in the tubing. The weird: I don’t get the loop. Show me how this loop helps, please! The bottle stand is a missed opportunity. Suction please! Let me do stuff with one hand! As is, they don’t help that much. Downsides: You are not able to use existing medela parts that you may have. This isn’t all bad because these are smart and intuitive parts. Unlike other pumps, there is no night light, no timer, no visual representation of your setting and you can only adjust the suction strength and have the “let down” frequency and “regular” frequency. It vibrates quite loudly (I measured up to 60 db) on hard surfaces (better on soft surfaces). It won’t fit my playtex or direct-to-bag adaptors super well which is a BIG bummer. That’s the biggest downside. It doesn’t have an internal battery, but on the set that includes the bag and cooler they include a battery adaptor - it uses A LOT of batteries. I couldn’t bring myself to see how long batteries would last. I found this slightly less comfortable than my go to pump but it was slightly more effective which I have a hard time acknowledging - I think this could be completely mitigated if I could adjust frequency and strength and have a visual for my settings like my other pump. I wish it had a handle, or rings so I could attach a shoulder strap. Durability: Holds up well, seems strong. Longevity: No issues yet! Aesthetic: Modern and sleek Cost of Ownership: VERY affordable! Only one piece to replace regularly, really. Also of note: Hefty side plug may not work in some power strips but its great for a regular wall outlet (2 prong) Accessories: Bag isn't my style, but it works (wish it was bigger), cooler is great but not tall enough for bigger bottles. Appreciate the battery pack for travel! Bottle side: fits standard bottle openings like other Medela pumps, not wide mouth (you can get an adaptor but it won't fit on this pump. Overall, this is a HUGE improvement over the old PIS, and I’m super happy to have it as an option. It's honestly so much better and is a great choice if it's covered by insurance. I’d be lying, though, if I said I loved it more than my current go-to pump, but that one has a handle, more suction options, a timer, visual settings, night light and an amazing built in battery (I also paid a little bit out of pocket for mine and didn’t get the accessory set like pump bag, cooler, etc). I would not be able to pay full price for this pump at the current price.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- A really great improvement- September 9, 2020
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel! This pump is great. It is small, quiet, and way more efficient. I love that the bag doesn't scream breast pump so can be versatile. The cooler bag with ice-pack is the perfect size to transport expressed milk daily and the provided battery pack is really useful for on-the-go use. Fewer parts make it much easier to clean. The new shape shields are a much better design and are much more comfortable, i really like that 2 sizes are provided. The max flow is a great improvement over the regular pump in style but its still not the same as a symphony.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Comprehensive Set!- September 7, 2020
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As an exclusive pumper, this pump works top notch! I had no issues getting the same output as I had with my original pump. I love the small size, how it is super quiet, the easy to use buttons, and how the tubing merges into one line. The flanges are genius, the silicone is so much more comfortable, especially when used multiple times a day. I love the larger membranes, as there is less chance of it getting stuck down the drain and much easier to clean in general. I didn't rely to much on the pre-programmed settings, but it was straightforward to finding a setting that was both comfortable and efficient. The extra accessories are great in the package, the cooler and ice pack are so convenient and definitely a luxury at work. The bag is large and can hold much more than just the pump and accessories (namely, snacks!). The inclusion of two shield sizes is great for moms who either need two sizes over time or who don't know where to start. Overall, this is my new go to pump! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
