- Amazing, cool, awkward, buggyReviewed by Jack - November 21, 2021
I really wanted to love this phone so I splurged but ended up returning it. I returned it primarily because the software is buggy. Android still has a lot of kinks to work out before it works well on a dual screen phone. At first I thought I'd wait for a software update and it'd be fine because the hardware was so cool, but there were just too many bugs to put up with. Sometimes apps were supposed to be on one screen, but ended up on the other and it's supposed to be easy to move the app but sometimes it just wouldn't move. Sometimes apps would just crash. Sometimes the screen (or the app?) was unresponsive. A number of other things just didn't always work the way they were supposed to, though I don't remember all the examples. I do remember one time having to reboot the phone in order to reset it back to the way it was supposed to work, that's how messed up it was. I only had this phone for about two weeks, and every single day I used it, I experienced bugs. About 50% of the time when my phone would ring, there would be no way to answer it. I could hear it ring, but there was no answer or decline button, not even in the notification tray, so I'd have to wait for it to be a missed call then I could return the call from my call history. The notification bar between the hinges is supposed to light up when the phone rings, and when it works it looks really cool, but that also only worked about 50% of the time. It's also supposed to show you the number of unread text messages and emails but that never worked. Sometimes it would show me the time but I couldn't figure out why only sometimes. Oh, and I had a heck of a time trying to pair this thing with my Samsung watch. I literally had to go through the steps about 10 times before I finally got it to pair. Not sure if Samsung or Microsoft is to blame for that one though. It was easier to pair with my car, but because the phone is so wide I was unable to mount it in my phone bracket the way I'm used to doing. On the bright side, the hardware is amazing. It feels really premium. It's good quality stuff. Beautiful screens, beautiful design and it was definitely a conversation starter. The camera is not the best, but it's acceptable. The coolest thing about it is opening a kindle book and flipping the pages as though it's a real book. Other than the bugginess of the software, the other reason I returned it is because I found that I just didn't love the form factor. It was sometimes awkward to use, like when having to unfold the phone to take a photo, or even answer a call. I found I always had to use two hands to do anything on this thing because it's so big when you fold it open. Bottom line, even if there were no bugs at all in the software and it worked perfectly as intended, I don't think I would love it, and for $2000 I'd better love it.
