  • USB ports dead after Windows update
Verified BuyerReviewed by BeagleGuy - October 14, 2021

Dead on arrival. I don't know if it's poor quality control or a bad Windows update, but after running all the updates, both USB-C ports stopped working. No amount of searching on the web indicates this problem or a solution. I have reinstalled Windows three times - three different ways. I have uninstalled the USB controllers and drivers in Control Panal. Nothing works. Now I have to waste time and make a trip back to Best Buy for the Geek squad to look at it. The end result will probably be a return. Either way. Microsoft, I don't appreciate having my time wasted. On such an expensive device, you need to do better

  • terrible Display, Battery, and Printing
    Reviewed by 4to25characters - December 2, 2021

NB This review is for this make and model device but purchased directly from Microsoft, not Best Buy. It was delivered on and has been tested since November 27, 2021. Our experience with it has been terrible. We still own a Surface Pro 7 with an Intel i5 processor, 256GB storage, and 16GB RAM. We kept and will keep that device after comparing its display, battery life and printing performance against this new SP8. 1. DISPLAY: It's much, much dimmer than the SP7's. Reading from this device requires 100% brightness. Set side-by-side with the SP7 shows a huge downgrade in clarity, brightness and color. I thought it was hardware-related, but it may be Windows 11. Either way, running this SP8 looks like running an old, no-name brand smartphone from, oh, a decade ago. A photo is attached to show the difference between the SP8, which has a dark, blue filter, and the SP7. As an aside, a YouTube reviewer also side-by-side compared the displays of his i5 SP8 and his i7 SP8. His video shows the same differences as shown in my photo. 2. BATTERY: With very basic use - think light Microsoft Edge web browser searching, browser emailing, and browser chat-sessioning with Microsoft support over these problems - this SP8 just doesn't last nearly as long as advertised. Try about half or less than half of that. How full is a full day, Microsoft? I guess that depends on the era and the CEO. 3. WAIT; PRINTING?!? This is why the problem here, at least, may be Windows 11-related. That new, SP8 display PRINTS web pages as terribly as they are displayed! I printed the exact same Microsoft Support web page running on each of the SP8 and SP7. The SP8 printout is dimmer and very blurry and grainy. At the end of the day I don’t know if the problem is hardware, Windows 11, or both. I do know I am livid.

  • Great device but Windows 11 has some shortcomings
Verified BuyerReviewed by TheKen - October 15, 2021

I have had a Surface as my main device since the first one. This is very fast and the battery is good. I like the extra screen size. It's only a little bigger but makes a big difference. I have a few Windows 11 complaints. The biggest complaint is the changes Microsoft made to the taskbar. It is significantly less configurable and is slowing me down. I hope MS listens to the many user complaints about this and fixes it in the next update. I was disappointed that i needed to buy a new keyboard.

  • beautiful device but intel chip really sucks
Verified BuyerReviewed by cynicmouth - November 10, 2021

love the new design which pretty much looks like surface pro x; been eyeing for a 2-in-1 for a while as my work needs it. Unfortunately battery on this really sucks - i was able to get approx. 7 hr of battery life with light browsing and battery saver on, nowhere near proclaimed 16 hrs of battery life. for a device with this form factor i'd expect 10 hr under light weight office work :( guess ill wait for sp9 and see if they will improve at all

  • Pricey and heavy
    Verified BuyerReviewed by TechNerd23 - October 30, 2021

Too Bulky and pricey I was hoping for better graphics card for the price. It should really include the keyboard and pen. If you're looking for a surface I recommend the surface laptop studio, its around the same price as the Surface pro 8
