- The good and the bad- August 17, 2020
Let me start off by saying that I am no stranger to tech. I have been in the field for over 40 years and have always wanted to buy a nice dash cam for my car. However I have been waiting for the price of the 4K models to come down, since they were so expensive when they first came out. When I saw this Orbit 960 unit, I bit the bullet and purchased it. I have detailed all of the good, and not so good features of this unit below. The build quality is fair. It’s not up to Apple standards but not junk either. It is made in china but most people would be happy with the build quality. One very nice feature is the Sony Starvis sensor which helps to make clear recordings at night. This worked well in low light situations. The orbit 960 also has a feature which reminds you to turn your headlights on. This feature, as well as the Motion Detection feature also worked well. All of the other features of the Orbit 960 did NOT work so well. For example, when you set it to give the speed in MPH it still showed Km/H on the screen. The Front Collision Warning feature did not work at all. Neither did the Lane Departure Warning feature. Tech support was terrible from this company. I contacted them 3 times. They only responded back once (and were argumentative that time). I thought it might be a firmware issue that some of the features weren’t working. When you go to their website and click on ‘Firmware’ the firmware page doesn’t load. When I brought this to their attention they said that “product is new, everything works and it doesn’t need a firmware update”. This type of a reaction and response is unprofessional from any company. I have tried to find other solutions to get features to work, but nothing has helped to get these features to work properly. The worst part about this dash cam is the way they save, and you view your recordings. There is no way to record your driving session in one video. They always break up the session into 5 minute (or smaller) videos. So for example; if you drove for 30 minutes you would find 6 videos in the apps settings. There is no feature offered that will allow you to stitch them together to see your driving session in one video as it happened when you originally drove. To make matters worse, it takes around 5 -10 minutes to download EACH video to your phone from the Orbit 960. Most of the time the download process would fail, and you’d have to start the download process all over again. So if you needed to download that one 30 minute driving session, it could actually take you well over an hour or 2 to do so, and here’s the kicker, you MUST do the download while you wait in your car. Downloads do not work unless you are sitting in your car while you’re next to the Orbit 960. For most people this will be very inconvenient to say the least. Meanwhile your Orbit 960 (and your phone) are filling up with literally hundreds of these cut-up driving session videos. The straw that broke the camels back for me was the way this company handles your privacy, and tracks you. Even when the Orbit 960 is off (your car is parked, and the dash cam is off) they still track you on your phone. Even if you choose “Use tracking only when app is used” they still track you even if the dash cam is off. You would have to go into your settings and manually disconnect, each and every time that you used this dash cam. There is no button to disconnect you from the tracking. You can only disconnect by manually digging through your settings and (settings > Privacy > Location Services > Geko DVR) each and every time you use the Orbit 960. Even if you overlook their tracking you, it still wears your battery down quickly. Redoing this same process over and over again gets old very quickly. The bottom line is that while the hardware seemed to be good, the software (and tech support) was terrible, and you can’t use the hardware without the software, so I’ll still get a 4K dash cam for my car, just not from this company. Hope this review helps you find the right dash cam for your car.No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

- Finally, it's a real 4k dash cam, excellence!!!- July 31, 2020
Orbit 960 is a dash cam probably the easiest one I have ever used. Simple to setup and the onscreen images next to each of the physical side buttons is an unexpected and welcomed help. Easy WiFi connection to access the video download and sharing. GPS logging to record the location and view the routing thru the google map, excellence! The video quality during the day and night time is great! Not only to see the license plate super clear in front of camera but also can see really detail of every spot on whole video.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- An Awesome Dashcam- October 2, 2020
I have had 3 or 4 other dashcams over the last while, some with 1080p capability, and all were good, but this GEKOgear camera is by far the best yet. The definition is amazing, the super wide lens is great and the setup is straightforward and easy. The transfer of files to my iPhone is smooth, and I don't have to remove the SD card to copy videos. I find that the 5 minute segments available are long enough to provide a good review of specific portions of a trip, and the GPS tracking data could really be helpful.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
