This Doorbell is amazing!1

Purchased this doorbell at a major discount and gave It a try with no expectations! I am sooo impressed. It was super easy to install. Video quality is very good certainly comparable to my foscam 1080 security cameras. Lots of features in the app to control how you record as in motion or simply a person arriving. I have mine set to only notify me if a person has arrived and that's exactly what it does, send me an email with a pic if a person is at my home. The audio works great and I love being at work when a delivery person arrives at my home with a package I can chat with them. I have been using this for about two weeks now and it has not once lost the wifi connection. Also I must add we have been having a very cold snap here in Newfoundland with temps reaching in the -30's celcius and the doorbell has worked flawlessly in those temps. If you are looking to record continuous video you will have to pay for it but the app gives you the ability to review and manually save video daily which for me is perfect. If there was an issue at my home I will certainly know about it quickly. Overall this doorbell rocks!!

Subscription Required, lag

While the idea is cool and it was great for the first 30 days when you have the free trial, people might not be aware that this requires a monthly subscription of services otherwise is generally useless. Without the monthly subscription it takes a picture of who showed up and that picture is deleted within about 3 hours. Also the lag of notification of someone being at your door results in you rarely being able to live talk to someone but most often just miss them.

Worked at -22

I was debating between Nest and Ring. Didn't get Ring because it is very ugly. Nest has a much more pleasant design. Both are the same size but Nest looks smaller because of the rounded corners. And I'm not sure what this whole temperature issue is. It was -22 outside in the last few days (in Toronto). The Nest worked just fine for me. I think most people who have issues with these products also have internet connection issues. If you have a week connect you will probably have issues. But the product and app both work great.

I was hesitant to buy this at first when I saw some review and they were saying that this doorbell does not work properly if the temperature is below -10. Well it's -20 outside today and this doorbell is still working fine. I'm very happy with this purchase. it works great.

Nice Product from Google

Have it up and running for a week now. Everything works perfectly. Hasn't faced the tough winter yet so not sure if it can survive. But so far so good. It was a struggle to pick either the Nest or Ring doorbell. Both are similar on spec and have good comments from friends using either one. I think after all you need to decide to go for Google or Amazon, so pick your side. For me I have a Nest thermostat and that's the top reason I go for Hello, hoping a better integration. Installation is easy if you have some basic knowledge about electrical wiring. My original chime is a very standard one (16V) and the product comes with all the wires and tools you need. Video quality is very good. I didn't even set to "high", just keeping the default medium quality. Sensitivity is great. This becomes a bit annoying as every time a person or a car passing by, there will be an alert on the phone. Continuous cloud recording is one of the selling point and I think the subscription price is reasonable.

Nest Hello Review

Got the Nest Hello mainly for security plus i liked how it looked. Have had it for a month now and have had no big problems. My thoughts on the Nest Hello: -Does not connect to 5 ghz Wi-Fi but 2.4 ghz works fine as it does have a longer range as compared to 5 ghz -Have had 2 disconnects over the past month but it lasted only about 20 min so i attributed it to my Wi-Fi going down for a little bit. When the doorbell is disconnected for 10 min+ you get an email stating that it disconnected as well as an image of what the camera last saw -Video quality is great, but i do have it set to the highest setting -Response time is good as well, have been able to have conversations with people at the door in real time with no issues. Note that i have a 300mbps download/upload internet plan -Subscription required for cloud storage after the 30 day free trial -Some people state that this doorbell will not work below -10 degrees C. Edmonton at this point has had a few days that has reached below that mark and it is still working without issue. After looking into it some more the -10 degree mark is talking about the internal temperature of the doorbell, not the temperature outside. Internal temp of the doorbell stays well above -10 degrees even when it's that cold or colder outside Overall i highly recommend the Nest doorbell, especially if you're gearing most of the smart devices in your home around Google brand devices.

Buy the Ring Doorbell Camera instead

Extreme lag in notification was a well-documented concern that Nest has not addressed. I have no use for a doorbell camera that notifies me 15 seconds after an event occurred. The camera also goes off-line several times during the day and this is a major concern/

Read This Before Purchasing

A video doorbell is a great idea, and I could use one but did the research before purchasing, which I hope will save anyone reading this time and money. Neither Nest nor Ring will say their doorbells will work below -10 Celsius. Unless you live on the West Coast of Canada, the average temperature from November to March is less than -10 C, especially at night. I contact NEST Customer support to confirm several conflicting customer posts about the ability of NEST to work below -10 C (many said it would and many said it would not). The NEST Customer Service person said not to buy it if it is less than -10 C. You really have to wonder why it is for sale in the Prairie Provinces???

Does not work below -3C in Calgary

Worked for about 20 minutes with Pro Install, then went offline. It would go offline at night or early morning. spoke with internet provider to verify signals were strong etc. Now it's snowing and -3C. Spoke with NEST Support and it only works to -10C. Not a good outdoor product for Canada in heat and cold.

I had the 1st gen ring, and it was garbage. Always disconnecting, too much lag, sending me notifications all the time that showed nothing. Perhaps the newer ring's are better. This has very little lag, better camera, better styling.

Keep Offline

Work for 2 weeks, then it keep offline, then tried everything, cannot able to make it back up, but suddenly it will be back up. Good features only if it is working. Worst than Rings, which I have before.

Love the 4:3 ratio

I love the viewing ratio on this cam. For door cam it is good quality. But it doesnt feel like 1080p at full quality. Feel like at best 720p quality. All the face look pixalated when zoom in. For nest aware I don't like the 3 hours clips storage limits. And there is a lot of processing errors when u tried to create clips like timelapse. I like that you can use the camera by micro usb connection too. Looking at camera history it seem the camera turn itself off at night. It say camera was off during night time and at about 6am it is back on. I check the schedule and nothing is turn on. Maybe it turn off when no motion detected. Not sure. Love how it work with google home speakers. Very cool.

Easy install, setup and configure

I used the online tool to determine if my home was set up properly. It was, but it took me time to locate the transformer, identify the right circuit. This saved me time when I got the device installed. I followed the instructions provided by the Nest app. Very good and clear step by step instructions. It took me no more than 30 minutes. I did watch the youtube video by Nest to get prepared. Configuration was simple. Video worked right away and we were using 10VAC 16V. I did not have any issues with WiFi. As it is a wired to the doorbell, I don't have to worry about Wi-Fi reception outside. Fro the doorbell to router, it is 40 feet direct line of sight. Very impressed with video and step by step instructions. Installation kit was also a breeze.

Most people that write negative reviews actually don't have this product

The -10C operating temperature refers to the internal temperature. The internal temperature does not reach that cold even in -25C outside temperature.

DOES NOT DO 5G IN CANADA

after countless hours with tech support they finally told me that this product is regulated not to do 5G in Canada only in the US, even though it clearly stated on the box that it does 802.11ac. Buyers Beware.

awesome

Its a little pricy but considering its doing the job of a video doorbell and a security cam, it makes it pretty good. The 160 degree angle covers the entire front of my house including my neighbors driveway, footage is great in HD and always recording. The alerts are a little delayed but considering I lived with zero alerts before, its a step up. Installation was simple, and set up was equally as easy. I have it connected to my Google home and it announces when someone is at the door. couldn't be happier with it.

This is a good product but, should be cheaper. Pro's: It has better picture quality than "Ring". Its nicely designed Con: Its way too expensive. It needs minor software updates Night vision and Face ID need work

Works great

So far quite happy with this item. Settings work well and I like the familiar faces as well as quite time. Based on my experience this item does work below -10 and was still working close to -20. It does have an internal temperature which you can review in the app and was much warmer than outside temperature.

Glad I Waited

I preordered my Nest Hello Doorbell late last year and I'm very happy with my purchase and glad I didn't order from another company earlier as the quality is top notch. Lots of options in the phone app including "Quiet Time" which turns off the doorbell and you only get a notification on your phone. Great for barking dogs and sleeping kids. Night vision, two way voice and easy install are also appreciated.

Not worth the risk and money

Aside from easy installation of the device, there is nothing great I can really say about it aside from it’s stylish and slim design. Once installed the camera worked flawlessly until the temperature started to drop overnight. The lower operating temperature of the device is -10 degrees celicus. Once the temperature neared -10 the device continuously froze and would not record / function. I contacted the Nest customer support line and they told me that the doorbell is only engineered and designed to work in temperatures as low as -10° and went on to say that they could not guarantee that the device would work in temperatures below that. The Nest support representative also told me that their engineers are aware of this issue as they have already had a large number of complaints regarding the device failing in low temperatures since its release. As for the other review that stated there is an internal heat sync, that is incorrect information and I verified this with the Nest support team. Also, there is no way to tell what the internal temperature of the device is compared to outside temperatures (also verified by the Nest Support team). I have tried, tested and returned this doorbell because it is clearly not manufactured for the Canadian climate.

Top Quality

Love this Doorbell. Works perfectly. Very happy with my purchase. Btw, the temperature range people are talking about is the internal temperature and not external. Had a couple nights recently in -22C outside and the internal temp of the Hello was 4C. There is a heatsink in there. Won’t be a problem in Canada. Read up on stuff before posting bad reviews about temperature ranges.

Great product (only if you live in California!!!)

I've had the Ring Doorbell Pro for a very long time and was looking to switch. I am quite impressed with the device and it has some very cool features which would essentially convince me to switch. 2 downfalls currently. 1. The angle bracket they provide is only 15 degrees. Ring has a bracket that can be angled much more, which I need. This is a minor issue/fix and I'm sure Nest will have wider angled brackets in the future. 2. And this is the main reason I'm returning the product. It DOES NOT WORK IN TEMPERATURES BELOW -10 DEGREE CELSIUS. Yes; that is correct. It's not ideal for Canadian weather. I even visited Nest's website and chatted with their agent. They said it's something the engineers are working on. I will look into Gen 2 but this one will not work unless you're only planning on using it in the spring, summer and fall.

Cautiously Optimistic

I first saw the Nest Hello door bell in an advertisement email from Nest. I thought it was so cool to have a wired smart door bell. The reviews I read online seemed pretty good so I thought I would give it a go. What sold me on it was the Google Home integration. When I press the doorbell it broadcasts "Someone is at the side door". (I had the option of Front, Side or Back door for the name). If you subscribe to the paid service available, it will actually say "So-and-So is at the side door". You have to train their faces to names. It uses about 120GB a month upload according to the app. I am glad I have unlimited data on my internet plan! The first thing I noticed while going through the setup with the Nest app is that it indicates that it only works in -10 to -40 degree weather. Uh-oh. Does anywhere in Canada not go below -10 in the winter? That is a normal winter day here. Since I already opened it, I decided to give it a go anyway. I mean, Best Buy is selling this locally, so it should work, right? The quality of the doorbell video is pretty good. Sound breaks up occasionally, when speaking using the "Talk" feature. I don't know if I would use it, or not because of that issue. The build in responses might be good enough for me. I mainly want it to know when my package was delivered. Then I can go home, or have some one stop by to put it inside. I would like to get a 2nd one for my front door, but at the current price I don't think I can take the risk of it not working next year after the first > -10 degree Celsius day.

Nice design overall, some features still need to be improved

PROS: -nice design overall, easy to install -voice quality is good, almost no choppy sound CONS: -the facial recognition feature doesn't really work, it won't even recognize the person with or without glasses/hats -the live video feeds won't be HD unless you have super high speed internet, in fact, the contour and features of the person, as well as the backgrounds will be really blurred out... -a bit pricey!!

Is it a right product?

The 'specs' page on NEST's website says that the operating temperature is 14° to 104°F (–10° to 40°C). I think winter temperature in Toronto could go below -10 easily. The response rom NEST's online chat support is that "You can still install it but is not recommended because the temperature is very low." So, not sure if this is the right product for me.

Works as expected without issues.

If your even just a little bit handy it's very simple to install. Just follow the instruction video. I had the Ring 2 Doorbell and had nothing but issues. Major lag in the video quality and I couldn't see anyone's face. The Nest Hello doorbell on the other hand is very clear and with facial recognition it recognizes faces from 20 feet away. I set Activity zones for different areas. My porch, driveway and yard. Who knew it was a cat digging holes in my lawn? I figured it was squirrels. Overall I'm very impressed.
