More Information

When you're away from home, a whole host of things can happen. From the unthinkable like a break-in to wish-I-were-there moments like your toddler dancing to the radio, there's lots you can miss when you're not home. For a sense of security and ability to stay connected to your home, there's Nest Cam.

Nest Cam is a stand-alone IP camera that works over your home's internet connection to record footage and enable remote surveillance from your mobile device. Install one near the front door to record the comings and goings in your home, put one in the nursery as a baby monitor, or affix one to the refrigerator to watch your mischievous dog in the kitchen. Nest Cam can keep an eye on things when you're not around.

What you need to know:

  • 24/7 live video streaming: This wireless stand-alone IP camera works over your home's WiFi network, so you can access live and recorded footage from the Nest app on your compatible mobile device (phone or tablet with iOS 7 or later, or Android 4 or later).
  • Alerts on your phone: When Nest Cam detects motion, it'll send a notification to your smartphone if you have motion alerts turned on.
  • Night vision: Night vision LED sensors enable a clear view when it's dark, so you can see everything that's going on, even if the lights are out.
  • Talk and listen: 2-way audio records sound and allows you to communicate with family members or pets at home.
  • Easy setup: Nest Cam is so easy to install; simply plug it in and set it up from your phone. You can stand it on a table, mount it to a wall, set it on a tripod (sold separately), or stick it to a metal surface thanks to its built-in magnet.
  • Nest Aware: Get a 30-day free trial to Nest Aware, a subscription service that records 24/7 footage and saves it to the cloud, so you can play it back and see what you missed. It also features advanced motion sensing, highlights moments where there is motion or sound, focuses on important areas, and even allows you to create timelapse videos and save clips. The free trial records up to 30 days of continuous footage.
  • Your data is secure: Nest Cam uses bank-level data security to ensure your video remains private.
  • See the bigger picture: Wide 130-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles give you a broad picture of the room, while 8x optical zoom lets you get in close on the action.
  • Crystal-clear recording: The camera's CMOS sensor records in crystal-clear Full HD 1080p resolution, so you get a great view of what's going on in your home. Choose from scheduled or triggered recording.
  • Works with Nest: Nest Cam automatically works with other Nest products, including Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect. It automatically turns on when Nest Thermostat is set to Away, and starts recording if Nest Protect detects smoke.
  • Wired power: Nest Cam operates with the included power adapter, and comes with a 10-foot USB cable for versatile placement.

Product ok, nest aware service poor

The camera is good, the sound is very poor. I subscribed to n’est aware and was cut off twice with no notice. Why pay for a service that is not dependable when you can get the same thing cheaper and better. Sorry I went with the nest product

Horrible Software - Virtually Unsuable

I bought this camera because I love my Nest thermostat and thought it was ok to pay for a premium to get a good experience. It was exactly the opposite: - The first day I noticed IFTT integration didn't work so I contacted Nest support... for days they made me jump through hoops with various debugging steps before finally admitting that there was a software issue on their end. I asked if they would tell me when it was fixed and they said to "check back in a while" - worst customer experience ever. - The camera has no "sensitivity" settings (unlike many others) which caused it to constantly give me false alarms (every time a shadow changed) - this is likely their way to use their paid service to try and identify people and alarm you only on that. - The final straw was when it stopped being able to switch off when I came home (I had home/away mode set to turn it on when I left and off when I came home). This mode just suddenly stopped working a few weeks in (and good luck contacting support) I returned this and bought a camera for a third of the price that doesn't have any of the above issues!

Easy to install. easy downloading and a great picture. My one and only complaint is the fact you can not control volume.

Not good

Please do not use this as a baby monitor. It is constantly disconnecting. It’s very unreliable and I will be returning mine in the morning. We attempted to use it for a few months and have experienced consistent problems. As we speak it’s been offline for a hour and we cannot get it to work at all! Also don’t use this if you don’t have unlimited data in your household.

Very poor quality, do not buy

I purchased this camera on Nov 25, 2017 on sale and I regret my decision. I thought it would be a nice addition to my Nest thermostat and smoke detectors A week later the plug in socket broke and now I can't return it. This is another made in China cheap quality product. What's the point in having all these great features if the power sourcing concept is so feeble. Will look for a good wireless camera instead. Good bye Nest. For the price I paid I expected a solid product.

Good Product - Reliable & Good Quality Images/Video

I own 2 of these cams. I have had them for 2 years now and both work great. Yes, you have to pay the yearly subscription fee to keep video recorded, but given the quality of the image, I would say it's worth it (plus each additional camera after the first is a 50% reduced annual rate). All in all, I'd say it's been a great experience working with these cameras. Would highly recommend.

Nest camera is not worth the price of the box it comes in.

Unless a monthly subscription is taken out, these cameras are not worth the price of the box they come in. They are absolute garbage. All the great features aren't available if you don't subscribe. If the camera detects motion, a notification is sent out but it doesn't record anything, it send a picture.. The capture it takes misses the activity. Spend a little more and get something that does not require a monthly fee.

Not the best

Nest is a good concept but doesn't deliver. It's not wireless as you need to plug in via USB (which is provided) but really limits your placement options. It only adjusts front to back not side to side which again limits placement. The picture is crisp however lags a lot (anywhere from a 2.5 second to 20+ second delay). App is okay but could have more options. It does record the videos however this is on a yearly paid subscription. 2 way mic is clear when listening to the sound recorded on the camera but very muffled for when you relay a message through it. I used it for a day and returned for the Arlo. I don't recommend.

Not the Greatest but has potential.

Hey, As we all know with newer tech companies some frustrations are to be had as the software receives tweaks for various glitches and improvements. We use this for both baby monitor and security. I agree we do receive a fair amount of false alerts as another poster commented. Nest advertises that with the use of the zones you can limit this. However, we have noticed it simply gives you different status types, but the same frequency. I EXTREMELY want two-way voice communication! Having a delayed walkie-talkie style communication system makes it so I can not hear what my child is saying for the second or two it takes the system to switch back as my 1-year-old can't yet comprehend they need to pause a second before replying. Someone mentioned it isn't good at night, I strongly disagree. We can see very clearly in the absolute black of night. Image quality is strongly dependent on a reliable, fast, internet connection. Have purchased multiple nest products, and will again. I also use this with Apple iOS devices. As another poster mentioned they couldn't use on iOS for adobe flash issues you simply need the App, which is free! But you need a subscription for anything other then a live feed. :( And it aint cheap.

Easy setup, poor stream quality

I'll start by saying if you are new to ip cameras and want something so you can monitor from outside your house, this camera is redicously easy to set up. It has great picture quality and the sound works ok. Great if you don't want to spend time or don't know how to set up ddns to view outside your home. Having said that, this camera has poor streaming. It gets nowhere near the 30fps as advertised and averages .7 to 1.2fps on the local network. I have other cameras averaging 15 to 20 fps at the same time. I tried turning off all other features and lowering quality but it made little to no difference. The camera does go through their server but but with my wifi speeds at 175mbs it shouldn't be an issue. The camera is heavy, feels sturdy and has a magnetic base which is nice for mounting. It has no option for ethernet chord to hardwire which is a bit of a down side. In the end, great beginner camera. If you want clean streaming though and have time or knowledge to set up an ip camera with ddns and view through a third party app such as tinycam, there are many other cheaper options that would work better than this one.

Near perfect

It has absolutely sharp image quality and I love that it can be viewed on any computer or smart device. Catch is that 1080p heats up the camera so the company discourages you from using that setting. Stupid. 720p quality is fine. It has varying sound delay so when your kid makes a squak it can take a few secs or at times 5-10secs for the cam to show it to you. Also I don't like that you have to register the cam everytime you change locations. I brought my baby to my inlaws and registered the camera on their computer. But then I came home and had to re register it to my computer. Stupid. Maybe I'm missing something cause the registrtation should be portable. If it isn't, that is stupid. Outside of the listed cons, this is a very good smart cam. Love that it alerts you when baby moves or squaks (in case your eyes are off the cam or you are dead asleep) and I love the night vision quality. Excellent.

Great Cam

So I've now just bought my 4th one. I have 2 at home and 2 at the cottage. Picture quality is great and the phone app and windows app allow a lot of control. Yes you do have to pay for cloud backup service but it is less if you have several cameras and you can download clips of interesting stuff for later. I think its a really well designed product and obviously very happy with it. It will take up upload bandwidth/capacity so if you pay for upload bytes, you may get dinged but I think it only records changes so if nothing is happening for weeks at a time because you are not there, then its good. You can also turn off cameras remotely or get them to turn on only when it detects your phone is out of range etc.

Needs work before suitable as a baby monitor

This is a really great camera, with wonderful resolution and ease of use. However, it does consume your internet bandwidth rather than working exclusively on your local network. A lot of websites pick this as a top baby monitor, and it really has a lot of potential, but you have to buy a membership to see anything beyond the live stream. Other wifi baby monitors forego the fee and also communicate with your device directly on your local network. Best Buy was great at accepting our return of the Nestcam.

Works Great!

I purchased a nest camera as I already had a nest thermostat. The setup takes only a few minutes and the quality and ease of use of the app and camera are great. Having the camera recording to the cloud, while requiring a subscription fee, provides peace of mind as you know what no matter what, as long as your camera has internet, it is able to save its data.

  • from Candiac, QC

Infrared useless behind a window pane.

Resolution and overall picture quality is excellent. BUT the camera will switch automatically to infrared mode at night so if the camera is monitoring your driveway from behind a glass, all you see is the reflection of the infrared lights. Also the cloud service is NOT free as advertised on internet sites.

Love it

Great for watching the kids and making sure they get home ok. Love the alerts on my phone. Bought one and about to buy a second.

  • from Woodstock, ON

Not worth the money.

Not very dependable. Gives false alerts to many times even with changing a few different locations. Also didn't know you had to sign up for a yearly subscription to view the history. Also if you have an iPhone Adobe Flash won't work. Please Nest make it better. Your other products I have are satisfactory. Plus it gets very hot to the touch even when its not turned on. Could be a big power drain.

Great camera

Bought this camera about a month ago and I like it very much.

Nest camera

I recently bought 3 Nest cameras for home monitoring. I am not much of computer guy but found it pretty straightforward to get the cameras up and running. I read on reviewer that complained about the infrared picture. Not sure about him/her, but my cameras work excellently in IR mode, complete with good object movement. The picture resolution is good, good enough to positively ID anyone caught on the camera. All motion is pretty good, only occasionally is the picture "jerky". My only criticism of the Nest cameras is the incompatibility with Apple productions. Apple does not support Flash so you simply cannot use an Apple product with the Nest cameras. This is a shame. I am still in the free trial period with Nest but I will subscribe to the 10 day capture of data plan once my free trial is up. Some my find having to pay for 10 days of data unacceptable, but personally, nothing comes for free anymore and I am more concerned with security issues and a small fee is more than worth the peace of mind.

Best Buy that I've made

Great camera, purchased them due to wifes medical issues, I can now monitor her at work or on my smart phone. Only purchased 2, will be buying 2 more soon. These are expensive but like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I also have to mention ease of set up, within 2 minutes of opening up the box I had the first one operational, within another 2 minutes I had the second one up and running. For me that made the cost well worth while.

Worthless for Night Time

I bought this camera too watch over all my animals during the night. There are 3 big cats and a dog in a 20x15 room and the camera's motion detection in Night Vision mode cant catch them moving around the room unless its 3 feet infront of the camera. Absoulutely uselss for pet watching during night hours. Save your money and buy something else if your using this to Pet Watch at nighttime. Worthless.

  • from Whitby, ON

This camera provides really great quality videos. There is a little lag at times but I think it depends on your internet connection. There is a 10 day video history trial period and after that you do have to pay [price] a year to continue this service, which works out to just under [price] a month. This device is definitely highly recommended!

  • from Oakville, ON

Fair Warning

If you want to review ANY history after the free trial, you will have to pay a subscription fee. If you opt not to pay, this becomes a live cam ONLY. You will still receive Motion and Noise alerts on your mobile device, but will be unable to review what caused the alert - even seconds after the alert comes in. I would recommend looking into the Canary (search kickstarter - it is a full product now) It will allow you to review a few days worth of history and you can subscribe for longer retention. I am deeply disappointed with NEST's decision to not keep even 24 hours worth of history for the unsubscribed.
