Great system, terrible support

The equipment is excellent, super clear video and great features. A downside is that for outdoor cameras some of the features do not work unless the camera is externally powered, the supplied USB cable is not long enough to reach a power outlet so I'm waiting for a longer one from Amazon. Where this whole thing falls down is with the support. Firstly, the on line manual is badly written and I suspect partly referring to earlier models ie, it tells you to tap 'Live' but there's no 'Live' to tap - you have to tap the image to get the result. Screen shots would be a big improvement, Secondly their on telephone support is a disaster, I was told you could not reduce the field of view of the camera which is just not so. On the other hand I did get great help on their chat service. But.. having finally got it all working I'm very happy with it

Useful and decent but with some issues

We have used 5 different systems and looked at some others over the years. Overall this is the best of these. SYSTEM The concept is a sound one. It allows for both local and remote storage, wireless or wired connection, reasonable level of customization and notifications. This puts it far ahead of Nestcam. Single clearest flaw is that motion zones only work if camera plugged in. Peripherals are either not available (exterior cable) or overpriced (battery and charger). IMAGE AND SOUND The image is good in good light. We have found it variable in low light with little more than faint outline in very low rural light. Sound capture is weak and not particularly clear. Image breaks up at times, particularly but not exclusively in low light. RELIABILIITY We have used for a couple of years. All cameras and base units continue to work but the features have not been consistently available. Biggest problem has been with motion detection. The zones stopped working on one camera and there have been a lot of notices from things like dappled sunlight while not reliably detecting people. POWER AND CONNECTION Charging the batteries is a pain and using battery restricts functions (motion zones). The power cords are hard to plug in, you can't use generic cords. Batteries do last a couple of months unless heavy use or very cold weather. The cameras have worked well below 0 c. but around -13 they stopped working. The wi fi is weak. Unless the camera is within about 20 feet from router the signal is week and slow. We do have one camera about 60 feet away but it struggles. SOFTWARE It is OK but cumbersome, unduly complicated and awkward. There was clearly a lack of clear thinking in its overall design. Related functions are found in different places and in different ways. Logging in has been fine.

'Support"

Expect to wait 30+ minutes for their "D" grade support as well.

Rubbish.

These are mickey mouse at best. As you will find from the myriad forums on the subject, Netgear tends to include faulty battery charger cables so don't wait until the last minute to check. If you're still determined on getting these cameras, let me know and I'll sell you mine.

Terrible Product and Support, do not buy this.

I had the arlo pro system for 1 month before it stopped recording, even tough everything looks configured properly. I worked with support for 3 hours until they gave up and escalated to level 3 support and I have heard nothing from them since (Over week). It is impossible to get follow up information from Netgear on existing cases, you will spend hours on hold waiting for an agent to answer. I bought this for security, and it has been down for over a month with no end in sight. I asked for a replacement base but requests are ignored and escalation is not doing anything. Based on this I would not consider any other netgear products either.

No time date stamp useless as a security camera

No time date stamp useless as a security camera. For a pricey system, the lack of a time date stamp made me bring it back. Avoid if you want a real security camera

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I purchased eight cameras and four base stations. There are multiple issues that make this system completely unreliable. 1. The cameras require power to set activity zones for motion detection. Without activity zones the motion detectors fire every few minutes and users get overwhelmed with emails. However, there is no outdoor power adapter available for the cameras (they were recalled by netgear for risk of fire!) 2. The camera batteries do not work at temperatures below 0C (32F) and as there are no power adapters for the cameras they can not be used in the Canadian winter. 3. The cameras go off line intermittently, They remain offline for a random period and then appear again. 4. There are intermittent server outages. Arlo does not notify users of the outages. Some outages are several days. 5. The cameras connect to base stations. The base stations are netgear 2.4GHZ routers but have a very limited range. I had to purchase one base station for every two cameras. 6. Support is out of india. Support reps are bound by scripts and are not able to solve much. 7. I am surprised that Netgear / Bestbuy is carrying these cameras. There should have been a stop sell when the outdoor power adapters were recalled.

Very good experience

Bought the Arlo Pro 2 a day ago, and installed them at our cottage very easily. I had looked at a lot of online reviews before I purchased. I was careful to follow the setup instructions exactly, and everything worked as it should. I had reviewed a number of YouTube videos and this was useful. Literally took less than 15 minutes to get the system working. Spent a few more minutes installing one of the cameras high up outdoors. Clarity of the images are good, even at night. Audio acceptable. Siren is loud, as it should be. App seems well designed. Set access for my wife easily on her cell phone also. Nice system!
