If the high cost of a PCVR system has held you back, wait no more. The Oculus Quest is an amazing VR experience with full 6 degrees of freedom. Graphics/Resolution I have had an HTC Vive since 2016 and purchased a Quest to try out the portable and wireless options. I had my doubts about the graphic qualities as it's powered by a mobile processor, and while there are certain limitations when compared to a powerful PC driven system, this little device is nothing short of incredible! The panels in the Quest look very crisp and are clearer than the Vive and Rift CV-1. The SDE (screen-door effect) is there but I had to look for it. Tracking No need for lighthouses or IR cameras setup in your placespace as the Quest uses 4 wide angle cameras built into the corners of the HMD (head mounted display) to map your surroundings. The same cameras also track the touch controllers that are included. It works VERY well. It's not as accurate as the Vive's tracking but I would say it's 90% there. Your hands can loose tracking in a very few instances, such as when they are placed directly in front of your face or when they are placed outside of the view of the cameras. I was expecting worse but was happily surprised by the tracking. Comfort The unit is a bit heavier than others as it houses everything in the headset and as a result it can put some undo pressure on either the forehead or checks. The strap is easy to adjust and if worn correctly will help but it can get a tad uncomfortable for longer sessions. Head/Face shape will affect this as well so YMMV. Games/Experiences The Quest launched with 50+ titles. The big standout games are Beat Saber, Vader Immortal, Rec Room (free), Sports Scramble and Superhot VR. Beyond the games there are some amazing experiences as well. Tilt Brush, Big Screen, YoutubeVR and Wander are all great apps that work great on the quest. There are several free titles and demos of many more to try out so you don't have to spend a dime when you first launch your VR world. Setup Download the oculus app to your phone (Android/Apple) and follow the instructions. This system is a breeze to setup and get playing. The ability to take it to any room in your house or (if the sun has gone down) outside is the big selling point here. Take it to work/school/grandmas and just set up your play space with the built in pass-though cameras to see your world. Easy Peezy. Overall I give it a 4.5/5 stars with the half mark off for the comfort. This device is made to push VR into the mainstream and it excels at it. I bought the 128GB version due to the 64GB being out of stock but the games are not overly large in file size so a 64GB would be fine as well. At full charge the Quest will give you 2-3 hours of battery life and takes 2 hours to recharge. I find that a VR session of 45 minutes feels like a long time vs traditional gaming so when taking a break just charge it up while catching your breath and your good to go. Also, if you are seated and just chilling and watching a movie in the Big Screen App (free) you can just plug it in while using and you don't have to worry about battery life. TLDR (for the kids/adults with no attention span) Graphics and resolution are great. Tracking is 90% to that of the Vive. Lots of great games. A tad uncomfortable. Easy to setup and play anywhere. So good I bought 2 so my son in Ontario and I can pwn in paintball.
