optech utility sling strap

After looking at many sling straps and playing with them in various camera stores, the optech utility strap seems to me to be the winner. What I like most is that this strap provides two points to hang the camera from. I use the steel loop on my manfroto tripod quick release plate to attach one loop and attach the other loop (extended) to one of the strap mounts on my Nikon dslr body. Note that strap mounts that screw into the tripod mount of camera are freely available in the web and come in several styles. Thus I can hang my camera from the tripod mount and have a second point of contact as a safety mechanism which also helps to stabilize the camera, nice. Either loop can be extended with a short loop of cord, optech also offers loops of different length as well as strap extenders, making this a customizable strap system. Alternatively the camera can be hung from one or both strap mount s. If you are worried about the quick releases unfastening, they can be secured with Velcro tabs which optech also sells, or use a piece of a velcro cable tie. That does not seem to be a concern to me as it takes concerted effort to separate the quick releases. There are many overpriced sling straps available, some use ridiculously bulky adapter plates, some use simple threaded adapters, but almost all hang the camera from one point that can unscrew and let your camera crash to the ground. With two points of contact this strap seems safer to me. Bottom line, a comfortable neck pad, two points of contact for safety, the versatility to hang the camera in several ways, the ability to disconnect the strap easily for times when it isn’t needed, and the availability of parts to further customize the strap, make this a unique and superior product. That it costs 1/3 the price of competing straps is, as they say, the icing on the cake.
