Convenient connectivity

Philips Hue white light bulbs are a breeze to control. Using the Philips Hue app on your smart device and the included bridge, you can control your lights from anywhere. Easy installation

The starter kit comes with everything you need: 4 Hue white bulbs and a bridge. Installation is super easy. Just screw the bulbs into standard medium-base light sockets, plug in the bridge, connect it to your Wi-Fi, and download the Philips Hue app. Just like that, you've got your own smart lighting system that can connect up to 30 lights.

Long-lasting use and great compatibility

The Hue white bulbs sport a 25,000-hour expected lifetime, so they're sure to light up your life for a long time. They're also compatible with a wide range of Apple and Android devices. You can turn your lights on even when you're not home, so it appears as if you are. You can have your bulbs flash when your Nest Protect smoke/CO alarm (sold separately) detects danger. You can program them to flash when motion is detected, when the weather changes, or when a friend tags you via social media.

I got this bulb kit on sale with a bundled Google Mini. SETUP: The Hue bridge (the little white box) needs to be connected to your Wireless Gateway (or Wireless Router) via an included Ethernet cable. The bridge is not a stand-alone device. Then you need to download the Philips Hue app to your smartphone and sign in. Either make an account or sign in with your preferred account. IE: Google. To make it work with your Google Home you need the Google Home app. Simply link your Philips Account to the Google Home (its an option in the Google Home/Devices section) and you're all set. You can further customize the names of rooms or give nicknames to devices. For example, the 'Den Light' can be nicknamed 'Reading Lamp' and Google Assistant will respond to either name to do what you want. This package is for White Ambiance, which means it has thousands of shades of white ranging from yellow to bright. (No colors.) I used a voltage tester in a lamp at at 100% brightness the bulb drew only 6w of power. (A standard CFL bulb drew about 13-15w!) I put the Philips Hue bulb to 10% brightness it drew less and it registered only 3w. At 10% brightness it was less then 1w and still plenty bright! I've had no problems with the lights so far. I haven't owned them for long, but I bought 10 in total (including this package) and I am very happy. I've set up the Hue app and Home app on 2 other family member phones. They love using it. You can also customize 'routines' for your Google Assistant, so saying one phrase (IE: "I'm going out") will trigger multiple commands, like turning off several lights, or changing a set of lights to a random timer, etc. Another nice feature offered in the Philips app is the ability to turn on specific lights when you are coming home. This is great for late at night, because you don't have to do anything. I've tested this several times and it works. I was about 3 blocks from home when my designated lights came on (according to a family member at home who was watching my location via Google Maps). Then I set a routine for, 'I'm Home' and Google welcomed me home and shut off the lights! If you take the time to set this up properly (and it really isn't difficult) then it will work perfectly. It has so far. Just remember this tip: if you want to use a shade of white other than the default, set it as a 'scene'. Otherwise, asking Google Assistant to 'turn on the light' will result in the default setting for now. Worth it? I say, heck ya! And Philips is an official partner of Google so you know they are getting priority updates with the Home app. That's one of the reasons I went with them. I hope this all helps someone.

Absolutely one of the worst products I had ever purchased. For the 2-3 weeks I have had this product I had to restart the bridge on multiple occasions and factory reset on 3 occasions. Philips said the bridge is not a wifi devise but when you move the bridge into another room the bulbs becomes unreachable from the bridge. Hue does not work well with Google Home, voice commands take 4-5 seconds when it works and I have had 2 instance of account linkage issue for the time I have had Philips Hue. I'd give a zero rating if it is available.
